Karachi: As Rana Naveed hit the winning runs to seal victory against Australia in Perth, streets of Pakistan erupted in unbridled joy - well most of them.
For behind each shouting child and school going youngster, pesky pimplefaced nerdy spoiled brat - there was atleast 1 parent not happy with the result.
Mrs. Hashmi, mother of 2 young boys is a dentist by day. When we met her in her posh home in Defence, she is in tears, sitting on the floor holding her head and mumbling incomprehensively. On a day where Pakistan has downed the World Champions in Perth ( due to superior strategies put into place by our previous PAKISTANI coach ) her behaviour seems illogical - but is it ? Her husband, also overcome with emotions attempted to explain this strange phenomena to us in detail.
"When Pakistan are winning, any child you ask wants to be the captain of Pakistan or play for Pakistan - they dont want to study , all they want to do is to play cricket, cricket and cricket but then we lose a few matches ( laughs hysterically ) and my beta, mera chand says to me - Baba may bara hokay na Custom Collector banoonga, aap dekhna! But then , that moron, BW, decides to come up with some strange idea of winning against Australia and we are back to square one....wohi captain banoonga shanoonga" - he breaks off, loudly banging his head on the walls.
Mr and Mrs Hashmi are not alone in the grief - in Nishtar Park, a crowd of angry and hysterical parents, holds hands in a huge human chain to show solidarity with the Australian team. They hold banners like "Beta LEE, Razzaq Ko Out karo, warna ghar par pitai hogee" !!
The rally is organized by the "Responsible Parents Against Unnecessary Success in Cricket, Pakistan chapter" , beheaded by a distinguished ex cricketer, Sarfraaz Nawaz. He rallies the crowd by repeatedly telling them that Pakistan can not possibly win with BW in charge. "Swal Hee Paida Naheen hota - Woh angrez mota hamaree jooti kay barabar bhee naheen hai - HAHAHAHA"
However, as the match proceeds and matters take a turn for the worst - the crowd howl in anger and disgust as everytime Afridi hits a six or Razzaq scores a run, chances of their children returning to the correct path grow slimmer. Finally, their miserable day is complete as Rana Naveed scores the winning runs. In a typical ungrateful manner, the parents then chase Sarfraaz out of Nishtar Park, with an assortment of chappals and jootas being thrown in his ( and my ) direction.
After witnessing these heart rendering scenes, TheSourceNews has confimed with other sources that BWs strategy to beat Australia have been designed with one only one objective in mind - the destruction of Pakistani youth at home.
As is the current pattern, Bob Woolmer niether denies nor confirms this charge simply giving us , what his spokesman describes, as the 2 finger salute ( I have checked with my Army sources and there is no such salute )
