Wake Up and Smell The Lassi : Azhar's Views
by M. Yasin

Azhar's view. Azhar Ali
and not Azhar Majeed.
The silence was almost deafening. And the occasional “ring” of a cell phone that used to break the silence would also be absent today. We were banned from using cell phones during the time we are awake. This was not surprisingly another of PCB's and the management’s stupid mistake. Don’t they realize we get calls after we go to bed? And “Hello, how are you doing?” has been replaced by the customary “Are you sleeping ****er?”
But you have got to admit, it was eerily quiet. May be because Shahid bhai was still not in the room. When he is around, boom boom is the sound. But I had to take matters into my hand now. This is my team – and I have to lift them up. I scored 92. I am a hero. And my name has Ali on it, like Ali Zafar, you get the drift?! So I walk over to Gul and ask him the riddle that I have asked him thrice previously. Gul isn’t a riddle specialist. He is a T20 specialist. But I expected him to perform. Once in every 4 innings he is bound to perform, after all.
Azhar : "Oye Gully, sun sawaal [Hey Gul, listen to this question!]. What goes up, but never comes down?"
Guls answer came at 150 words per minute. Wish he could bowl at those speed though. “Age”, he replied and gave a smile as infectious as that of Amir. Before I could congratulate Gul though out of no where comes Shahid bhai.
“Gul, some things remain constant. Not every ones age is akin to your bowling economy” Shahid bhai quips, smiles and leaves. I swear I could hear boom boom. Or maybe it was just that Shahid bhai still sounds like a 16 year old.
I think Gul had the same feeling that I had. His answer could very well be the reason he is dropped from the team.
To be continued…
[Impersonating as Azhar Ali. Yeah I know that is sad.
