PakPassion.Net: Who was your idol while growing up? If it was a family member then who was it outside your relatives that also inspired you?

Bazid Khan: My idol was Viv Richards for reasons that are very obvious.His class,his style were a cut above the rest, probably the best ever.

PakPassion.Net: You are one of the few educated cricketers to make it to the national team in recent years. Were there any other Aitchisonians that you played with at school level who also chose to embark on professional cricket as a career?

Bazid Khan: No none of my fellow Aitchisonians chose cricket as a career, none that im aware of.

PakPassion.Net: When I was with you in grade 8 in Islamabad sector I Beaconhouse school for boys, you used to be very aggressive in your approach and you were the best batsmen in our school. Do you still have that aggressive spark about you or has first class cricket made you more cautious? Do you still use that shot where you flicked a pacer (playing a sort of sweep shot) over the keeper's head for six?

Bazid Khan: As one progresses to the top levels of cricket one has to cut down on risk taking. I'm probably more cautious now because I cant get away with playing agressively all the time. However when im on song, I'd like to think i do still bat aggressively. Yes and i do play that shot but not very often cause it looks really foolish when it goes wrong.

PakPassion.Net: How hard is it deal with those who say education should always come before sports? Any doubts over the path you chose?

Bazid Khan: They are probably right but nowadays sport is so cut throat that education cant go hand in hand unless youre extraordinarily talented. Doubts haunt me all the time but I wouldnt give up being a test player for anythng else.

PakPassion.Net: What do you do with your time during the cricket off-season?

Bazid Khan: There is very little time off nowadays. Whatever little time there is, is probably spent with friends, family, PS2 and eating out. Here i must mention one my cousins, Sher Ali, as he instructed me to brag about his eating prowess. Eating out, Sher is the champ!!!

PakPassion.Net: Your father is a symbol of integrity and thus greatly respected by all and sundry because of his uncompromising stance on principles. Does your perseverance in the face of our haphazard structure and adhoc selection policies stem from his influence?

Bazid Khan: My perserverance is nothing compared to my fathers qualities.

PakPassion.Net: I am a great fan of your Dad's batting and want to know if there is a part of your batting technique which is inspired by his own style? Do you discuss your batting with your father and has he asked you to change any aspects of your technique? Do you spend time in nets with your Dad?

PakPassion.Net: Do you think that for you it's an advantage or a disadvantage to be related to a former great like your father Majid Khan?

Bazid Khan: At lower levels it is a great advantage but as u go up it doesnt work in your favour. Constant comparisons are inevitable but sometimes they do weigh u down.

PakPassion.Net: How do you prepare for a big game? Do you get butterflies in your stomach before walking out to bat, and if so, how do you cope with that?

Bazid Khan: One has to take it like any other game. Everytime i go out to bat i do get butterflies, it just gets better with each run scored.

PakPassion.Net: Would you ever consider playing domestic cricket in other parts of the world?

Bazid Khan: Yes i would consider it.

PakPassion.Net: What do you say to the critics who say that you’ve underachieved in your career when compared to the standards set by your father and uncle? Why do you think that is, if anything, you would have had more exposure, understanding and transferable skills and knowledge from them (of course, with all that media intrigue and unfair comparison early on in the career)? On a similar-ish note, how do you think Faisal Iqbal, another famous relative/nephew of the great Javed Miandad is coping and can you learn from each other?

Bazid Khan: Comparing me with my father and uncle is very unfair because they were world class cricketers but i suppose its inevitable, it's just the way it is.

PakPassion.Net: How fast was Imran Khan at his absolute peak? Waqar Younis said during the AUS-PAK 2005 series that Imran could crank it upto 152 kph consistently. Do you agree and who is the fastest bowler playing domestic cricket today?

Bazid Khan: I wouldnt know because watching him live is the only way one can judge speed.But with the swing he possesed it must have felt like he was bowling close to 200 kms.

PakPassion.Net: What do you feel differentiates a test class batsman from the also rans?

Bazid Khan: A very positive attitude and belief.

PakPassion.Net: What’s your preferred bat make and weight? What's your favourite shot and preferred position in the batting line-up?

Bazid Khan: Bat weight is about 2'9 - 2'10 lbs. CA is the make.

PakPassion.Net: Whom are the current players that you admire and who are the players to watch out for in the future both domestically and internationally?

Bazid Khan: I dont have a great eye for talent but i wouldnt go to far wrong in saying watch out for Mike Hussey he is going to achieve greatness.

PakPassion.Net: Do you feel that you have been given a fair chance in the National team since the West Indies Tour? How disappointed are you to have missed out on the World Cup squad?

Bazid Khan: 66 runs in my last one day innings, highest scorer of the innings for Pakistan. You decide for yourself.

PakPassion.Net: Do you feel you have grown further as a batsman since the last time we saw you in Pakistan colours? Were specific weaknesses highlighted by Bob and yourself, and do you feel you have done enough to counter those perceived deficiencies?

Bazid Khan: Playing consistently at the highest level improves a player the most. I cant pass judgement on myself. Next time I play for Pakistan you can be the judge of that!
