Of all the palyers named so far (Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif, Kamran Akmal, Wahab Riaz, Umar Amin), the most shocking name is Salman Butt.
Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and Umar Amin are new guys so their involvment can be attributed to bad influence.
Mohammad Asif I guess is financially broken with his drug scandals and financial fiasco with the actress Veena Malik. So he may be in this for getting financially established agian while he still has some years left.
Kamran Akmal is just a bad apple. Nobody is surprised that he is there.
But what about Salman Butt? He is a son of a big businessman. Born rich. Then he is already vice president of National Bank of Pakistan a level which other Pakistani cricketers can only dream of. And he is test captain and soon to become ODI and T20 captain as well. So how comes a guy who is already so rich and have everything going right in life gets involved in betting?

you can say the same of Zardari. He has so much money why does he want more.
Cause there is never enough money in the world.

Greed is the answer as someone pointed out - corruption is the biggest plague in Pakistan.

Butt's main motive behind this could be to get the ODI captaincy as well.

Its a myth that the poor commit the most theft...and if they do it is out of need...significant theft is a rich man domain and it always out of greed...

Seems Butt just sat back while others got blamed for problems initially and then go into a postion of power which he was maybe after all the time.
Its almost film script like! Shameful stuff!

Butt's involvement has just shattered me. Here is a guy who came from a well educated family and even he say it fit to engage in treason affairs. Life ban, an example must be set.

Stop taking digs at fellow PP members. Just because someone supports a certain player doesn't mean he/she support every action of that player. Let all of us restrain ourselves from saying pointless stuff out here. A little bit of maturiy from everyone, not only pointing at you, will go a long way.
I could ask the same thing -- where is everyone who kept saying "My boy Amir..." when he wa bowling well.
All fans are shocked right now. And things are not surprisingly very messy. Let things clear by themselves and then we can talk.

Whether Butt is guilty or not...I won't judge him on allegations alone yet untill everything comes out; that aside, I hate his loser and victim mentality and lack of backbone!
Every time he has been asked about the poor performance of our batting, he always makes an excuse...nothing different this time either:
1.20pm Andrew Miller is currently at the Pakistan press conference and here is the latest: Salman Butt has been asked straight up, did Pakistan deliberately lose the Sydney Test. He did not answer, while Yawar Saeed changed the subject. Are you going to resign Butt is asked? "Why?" Salman replies.
"We won a Test against Australia after 15 years, and against England." Can the ODI series take place? "As far as I am concerned, it is on," says Yawar. "These are just allegations, anyone can say anything about anyone, that doesn't make them true," says Salman.
"Definitely we have given our best, it's just that the conditions have been difficult for the batsmen," says Salman. "Every person has given 100%, but not every time can you achieve what you want "
Yes, the conditions were so difficult that the opposition team only scored 446 in one innings...with two players scoring big hundreds (in the process battering the 8th wicket Best Test partnership, ever!)...with one them batsmen is the number 9 batsman for England with a previous test best of 60 odd. I mean, are you retarded or dropped by the nurse at birth?
Can you not say, yes we did not perform to the potential and conditions were very easy but since I and rest of the batsmen suck big time under pressure, we gave our wickets away like little kids facing a bully?
Successful leaders take the blame, accept their mistakes, lead from the front, and learn from thier mistakes...slowly but surely they turn in to great leaders. I have lost all hope that this talentless and under achieving so-called cricketer will ever achieve any greatness except for the odd victory here and there, surrounded by thuming big defeats like the last 4 ones.
As for his answer to the query if he will step down i.e. 'Why'...well Pak just crashed to their biggest defeat ever, is that not reason enough to at least show some remorse or shame?

i still cannot believe salman butt can do it. He is such a nice guy. Dont have problems with anyone and dont take part in politics but you can never be sure about a human being. Thats why laws are made.

Let me come out here and say I would not have expected Butt to do something like this in a million years
I wasn't a huge fan, but I thought of him to be a reasonable cricketer and person
Just shows how good a dummy face he was pulling on.
Shocked frankly, but I hate his guts now. Hes brought shame to the country

Its not about money. These guys provide players other services :quote: as well on tours, dinners, functions, celebrities, room services, massage parlours ;-) to name the few. They look for your weak points and then exploit them.

Its nothing to do with money or wealth.
Its to do with greed and lack of a sound moral compass.
