View Full Version : Why Aamir and co deserve a life ban

I can understand the sympathies for Amir as has been shared by PPers. Our greatest talent of the decade with the world dancing to the music of his swing being shamed is miserable to watch and i hope Allah gives his family the strength to endure this test.

No words can express our emotions but my mind cannot help but go back to 2006.

Then, we introduced Mohammad Asif to the world who lit the world with his artistry. Here was a bowler who could use his wrists in unfathomable manners to do whatever he wished with the ball. There was no doubt that we were blessed with a bowler who could finally be a testament to the fact that Pakistan is a self powered factory of fast bowling of all kind.

And we all expressed dismay, shock when he was first found positive for dope testing and there was unanimous consensus between all board members that an uneducated villager has fallen victim to unfortunate circumstances and no rational reason could explain how such an innocent genius talent can become prey to the ills of the world.

We were all convinced that somehow Shoaib Akhtar is involved in the fallings of Asif.

The symmetry between then and now is saddening but real.

Asif has proved beyond doubt that he was no innocent saint and its no coincidence that Pakistan cricket demise occured around the same time when Asif made his debut. How can a man of any honor repeatedly get involved in numerous controversies after being caught on so many occasions? It makes me sick at how flat his character is and how he must be sitting in his hotel room right now smiling with content that he is bound to get away with even this crime when it all boils down.

It's not difficult to comprehend why Amir will be tempted to follow the path of Asif. What does he has to loose after all? Pakistan cricket is run on hot emotions and it would only need someone to highlight his poor family background and illiteracy to make sense of his wrong doings. With the role models around him, he must have thought there is nothing he can do which he cannot escape from. Saying "no" to easy money for something as little as a few no balls would be fool hardy given how people around him got away from much more serious crimes.

This is why its imperative we put an end to these sympathy forgiveness and make an example of him. I am confident that few years later we would find another talent that will exceed the talent of Amir and Asif combined. The last thing we want our future stars to have around them are men with no spine who were above all law and rules. Now is the perfect opportunity to set an example for our generations to come. We must not miss this chance. Lets relax our "motherly" emotions and rid ourselves of these shameful scums.

he should be banned if he's guilty. there's no need to look for excuses because as asif has proved, no one changes.

Excellent post.

If we are serious about restoring our international reputation and eliminating these ills once and for all, we need to show zero tolerance to fixing of any sort. Root and branch review from top down.

A life ban is a bit OTT in my opinion. Cricketing careers are relatively short and so 2-5 year ban should suffice.

There is a difference. If it is proved that Aamer was involved in MATCH fixing than ban him for life, if it is proved that it was SPOT fixing ( balling no balls at certain time ) than ban him for 2-3 years.

A life ban is the only option (life meaning their last ever international game would be the Lord's test) if/when these players are found guilty. As much as it hurts in regards to Amir, he cannot be given another chance, Pakistan have made that mistake all too often with other players, and must pay for what he's done.

For Amir, just for Amir, I'm ready for him to just be banned for 1 year. Even though he was just as guilty as others, was in direct contact with fixer, the fact that he is so young and a superstar performer, he should be given 1 life.

Others however need life-ban.

This biased benefit of the doubt is exactly how Asif escaped only to become one of the most corrupted cricket ever in Pakistan history. Now do you really want to take chances with Amir and corrupt decades of furthur generation?

Pakistan isnt Bangladesh. In 5 years we will have another set of fast bowlers who will be ruling the world but for them to remain clean, damage control must begin now.

2 years for Aamir if proven guilty. For any senior player involved life ban. I don't see any other way. If I am genuinely honest, I used to think Pak. fan and media are idiots and unfair to their team by constantly alleging match fixing. It just didn't make any sense. But after this incident, which I am certain involves the entire team cause if newbies like Riaz and Amin are involved, it doesn't say much for the rest, I am starting to doubt all their results.

Aamir, Butt, Riaz, Amin and Asif are definitely guilty and involved from whatever I have seen. Ofcourse in two days time this will be confirmed. If guilty, life ban on Asif and Butt certainly. Riaz in any case won't play for Pak. again.

if it is as serious as it is truning out. Claims that guy is doing are absolutely shocking. Article 6 trial should be started against these players TBH.

life ban

that is the only way that these idiots will think twice about doing something like this again.

a 2-5 year ban, which will get reduced after a year or so on appeals, that will never do.

If the matter comes into PCB's hands then they will all be released of all charges easily and they will be back in the team. ICC will have to take serious actions otherwise all these 'superstars' will continue playing and continue fixing matches.

Agree with OP! Whoever is involved in match fixing should not be seen on cricket pitch again. If you wont set examples by giving and implementing punishments, this will never end!
