Its an Ihsan side sticker without the bats model name(lynx) printed on it. The bat does have a hammer edge sheet(hammer edge sheets can be applied to any bat not just newbery) thesedays lot of players use them like Sachin Tendulkar, Bhaji, Yuvi, B Mcullum and few other indian & Kiwi players use em.

How could an orange grip tell you that it's a Newbery? That's like saying Graeme Smith used a Newbery in 2008 because his GM Hero was orange.
More to the point, that grip's red on my monitor.

The theory is that if you practise your strokes with a heavier bat, you'll have no trouble with your standard bat.

Doesn't it also improve your bat speed in the games ? Hence many pro use a heavy bat in the nets.

Batting is simple, those who complicate it, fail at it.
Knowing proper batting technique is easy, putting it into practice separates the good from the bad.

if misbah finds it more comfortable to bat with two bats, then let him! it's his choice, and I bet he has a better argument of using two bats in the nets then people criticizing him here. It's training and if he feels he gets more out of the training by using two bats, then let him use two bats, and stop being smart-*****

Using a heavy bat in the nets to build more muscle power is pretty common, but what I don't understand is that how such an uncomfortable grip (when holding two bats together) will help u in any way? Matter of fact you might disbalance some ability to control and maneuver the bat when switching back to one handle. Oh well,,,, whatever helps float his boat.
SalmanK
10th December 2010, 15:43
I don't think he's actually hitting throwdowns. Looks like he is just practicing his backlift and plausibly the followthrough. This is pretty common practice to improve bat speed. Sprinters do something similar as well. They tie a heavy object to themselves (e.g. truck tire) and then drag it along while running. When the tire comes off, you feel like you're flying ;) Same principle here. Don't understand what's so controversial about it...

This is exactly what I am saying. I was only curious about how this awkward grip of holding two bats together will improve anything?
Just like Akhtar drags a tire, there is special equipment available which is more like a sleeve with pockets at the back to add desireable amount of weight to you cricket bat and improve bat speed, or batsmen simply use a heavier bat in the nets, just like Paul Collingwood. In both cases, the bat's cylindric shape handle and it's circumference is not altered with.
Well ,,, let's hope Misbah's ploy of holding a pair of bats bring him double centuries and not a pair of golden ducks.

Agreed with SalmanK Bhai.
If he was practicing it against any bowler then you would see him practicing on a pitch rather than grass and there would have been stumps as well.
I was just holding two of my bats like Misbah (yesterday) and it is quite easy to hold two handles at once.

Knightrider
5th January 2011, 19:34
Yes I know what you mean, my GN bat also had that ribbon thing but in this case the handle is made from different shades of canes & I saw a more clear picture of the handle on my HD Tv. This is what a multi-piece handle is, its easier 2 tell if canes are slightly different shades like this one but on most bats all the small pieces of cane are same shade so not many people notice or know what multi piece cane handle.
If you look closely at your bats handles you will see some of your bats have 8, 9 or 12 pieces.

there is no better or worse handle in that...but mostly all bats come with 3 springs....so better to go with that as there will be less vibration (lesser 'shock' feel when u hit the ball)

Every time I saw him hitting a big score, I would think is that the same bat? But I never got such a close up picture of that bat.
Looks finished, but I bet it still plays well, all you need is decent ping. I have played with a couple of very poor looking bats that played unbelievably. The thing with these bats is they play great right up until they break. Most recently it was on an MRF, all of a sudden it split into 3 pieces.
Is that the bat he made 200 in ODI?
Spot on mate! As long it "pings" well you are good to go.
I agree, I have GN Powerbow 3 Star and it has 4 grains and it is not the prettiest around but trust me mate it goes like a train and I always say its my best performance bat as it goes very well!
Yes, this bat is the same one he made 200 with in ODI.

You got it wrong again. Gayle actually does use Genuine IHSAN bats. Email Ihsan sports now and they will tell you he uses real Ihsan and they will have full proof aswell. I hope IHSAN name a bat after Gayle's triple hundred and call it IHSAN GAYLE FORCE 333 or 300.
from this months wisden monthly:
"Several internationals such as Sangakarra, Gayle and Tendulkar use Newbery bats but with the stickers of their sponsors. "People don't realise how how many players actually use our bats," Lenham says. "Sachin actually comes down here and Tim makes them in front of him. Gayle scored 333 with one of our bats - we know this because he left the 'Hammer Edge' sheet on."

was about to ask the same question, how do you know?
The way stickers are peeled and the outline clearly suggest they are SS stickers.

How much do SS bats cost?
CD, among SS bats what are different qualities and and what are price differences in them?
Have you used one yourself?

I'm not too sure how much SS bats cost, looking at UziSports top SS bat is SS Gladiator and that is going for £209.99.
I have never used any SS but have held lots of them, personally I don't like the way they are made. To me there shape looks wired and I am not fan of it.

Yaar kinda difficult to describe but SS shapes are wired I mean they look bottom heavy and spine spine doesn't run all the way and it is quite flat from back as well.
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb312/majid100no/SSTONLEBATSNEW11.jpg
See Bouncer Bhai the back looks a bit flat and there is not a swell type thinge in my opinion.

but no concaving as well...so the wood is there. and i must say, having picked up SS bats, they pick up ok. not the lightest but quite ok. top CA bats (esp the TRD) have better pick up (although have never picked up the SS gladiator bat).

Is it just me or do those new toe guards SS is using look exactly like the ones PUMA uses?
More like a resin that has set than rubber strip glued on.

These toe guards are not factory fitted but they are of good quality.

I agree some what abt the pick ups on SS bats, few yrs ago lower-midrange SS bats had only decent pick ups but nowdays the balance has improved and can get bats with good light pick ups. Top end SS have always had great balance and pick up.
Profile on SS bats are almost same as CA bats very little difference. CA do have better balance because of their shapes and they have touch higher profiles then SS. The finishing, pressing, craftsmanship is far better on SS and CA are way behind SS.

I won't say Indian bats have great handles, having seen the finishing on SG handles (Pumas) I can say they are poorly finished compared to Pakistani handles.

Puma bats are not made by SG. I've actually seen and held/picked up ur puma bat and didnt notice anything wrong with the handle or the finishing of it.

Key only does punditry in the off season, and the occasional commentary stint in county games when Kent aren't playing.
And CD, for a long time I wanted to use Gray Nicolls gear like Sir Robert, but then Gunn & Moore went and made themselves really appealing all of a sudden.

it is just the opposite. in general you will find Indian bats to have better handles than Pakistani bats. i would say that lower end SG bats also have better handles than top of the range AS bats.

And the pads are MIDs right? I think Afridi is not too bothered about his kit. As someone mentioned on other foru he was wearing 3 or 5 different helmets at the world cup. I have seen Afridi use BDM, Malik bats. AS Sports claim they also supply a few of his bats from time to time.

Those pads are not Afridi's they are Mohammad Hafeez pads. I think in nets he just wears what he finds in front of him but bats are always his.
If you closely see his world cup bats you can probably notice that he was using SS bat(s).
As far brands of bats is concerned every player use various brands bat no one has used one brand bat throughout there career.
