This is what an Australian supporter posted about coming Ashes:
This will still be an interesting series. Australia versus the Rest of the World. We all miss the Ashes when England could produce cricketers.
Ouch. :))

The only player in the current team I have a problem with is Trott who has no business playing for England imo (and I said this before the Pakistan series before someone brings that chestnut into it), and somewhat Pietersen.

Bodes well for the series. :))

Trott was supporting South Afria in 2007. Reports of him jumping with joy after the series win was common news. Morgan is the other foriegner.

I think there were reports of Trott going to dine out with the Saffers during their afterparty in the away dressing room lol.

I have always maintained during recent pak-england series that once you have got out saffers and the irish guy than the game is yours.

So England has players born and bred in other countries...
End of the day, they whooped our backsides black and blue in the test series if I remember correctly

I note that Australia have a Pakistani player.
Should they now be the RoW side too?

Shame you couldn't.
Even if you did, English Broad gets 160 and then English Anderson and English Swann skittle you.

Nice to see the Australians are getting their excuses in early.
The only members of the England squad not "produced" by English cricket are Trott and (arguably) Morgan.
Pietersen was just a mediocre off-spinner whose career was going nowhere until he came to England.

When Aussie supporters start talking about the kind of players opposition is picking, you know that they are not confident that their own Aussie team will do well.
First round to England.

Different to Nasser moving to England when he was two? Yeah, the difference is one year.

Lols @ that Aussie fan, they have given up before it's even started. If they still had warne, magrath, hayden and gilly they would never say such things. Their own team is low on confidience and that rubs off on the supporters.

Middlesex produced Morgan, so that only leaves Trott.
It's funny how the Aussies are screaming about this now, instead of during the eighties and nineties when we were fielding loads of African and Caribbean players. Why?
Oh yes, we've got the Ashes......
Terrible thing, envy.

Well quite - it reveals the hypocricy of this "RoW" nonsense when England have always fielded players from all over the world.

No, if you sound English then your English. Trott and Morgan are not English but just qualify to play for England.

Doesn't matter where you're born. Hussain is fine, he learnt all his cricket in England. Strauss, Jones etc are all fine as well. What I'm against is how someone who is a product of the South African system (Kieswetter playing U19WC cricket for SA, Trott playing U15 and U19 cricket for SA LOL) and then suddenly moving country because you can't get a spot there.

there seem to be a lot of definitions of 'English' being thrown about in this thread. my response to this debate is, always, that I can construct a pretty good argument in a couple of paragraphs as to why the only real impostors are Trott and Morgan, and I can live with that. Prior and Strauss are half-English by birth and moved here at a very young age, and Pietersen is half-English and passionate about the team. Pietersen is arguably one of England's better middle-order batsmen in recent decades - he is a product of the county system, and has given more hard graft to the England team than a lot of born-Englishmen ever did. I particularly remember how hard he worked at the captaincy, where I still feel he was a bit naive and victimised in the end. I must admit though, I found an interview the other day, and the South African accent and the questions do make for slightly awkward listening:

I have an issue with Morgan who actually played against England in the 2007 WC. But the rules are there and I can't blame him for exploiting them
James

Morgan is Irish and played against England in ODI cricket, but he has developed in English country cricket, and just wants to play test cricket. He is obviously a world class player and has won many games for England, so he is committed, if foreign.
Trott is a genuine turncoat - he celebrated South African wins over England in the not-too-distant past, and is quasi-English at best. The mental torture imposed on him by the South African team last winter was his punishment for defecting, and his game subsequently fell to pieces. However, this probably helped him out - the way he has come back with two series-winning test hundreds this summer means that you can't really question his commitment at the moment.
Committed for sure, but two impostors they remain.

I think there were reports of Trott going to dine out with the Saffers during their afterparty in the away dressing room lol.
Trott was actually in one of the Warwickshire CCC offices on his girlfriend's computer (his now wife works for the county). He said in a magazine interview that he didn't go into the away dressing room.
He was only in the pavillion because he went up with some other folk from the county club and they didn't have tickets for seats.
Personally I think all this drivel is a thinly veiled attack on cosmopolitanism. That said, I don't like Eoin Morgan.

How about that

Well done to Pakistan for their staunch YK-led rearguard action.
Now they need to learn to do that in the first innings of the match and build up scoreboard pressure on SA.

Meh, it's a fun gag, if only to produce sermons from the English PPer's about national identity. They protest so much you can tell it actually bothers them....
But forget that, the warm up games start today and the English side is the English side and we need to beat them to get the Ashes back.

England is a multicultral society i have no problems with england picking these players as long as they qualify correctly
