Seriously, so much talent yet this guy always gets himself in trouble, its such a shame because he is the best test bowler in the world alongside Steyn.

This guy smokes during the tea break (I saw him with another Pakistan player in another room alongside the dressing room) - Why do that, that is un-healthy

Why does he do this when he has the talent to become a great bowling legend for Pakistan

You'd think he'd have learnt his lesson the first time round

Some people are just born bad and attracted to trouble

It does seem unprofesisonal but it doesn't bother me if he smokes during tea, providing it doesn't affect him representing the country - his fitness was fine. I guess its his way of dealing with pressure, don't know how many empty packets are lying around his house during the current scandals. Some other Pakistani players do as well like Kaneria.

They should monitor what he smokes though. :asif

Honestly speaking he has very good chance of getting cleared. From the looks of it there is no evidence implicating him and he has the best lawyer. In addition to that if he is cleared than the case against other two will not be that strong.

Too much smoke in his head affecting his ability to think clearly.

I dont care if he smokes as long as it has no bearing on his cricket.

And evrrytime someone mentions him i feel a lump in my throat. I wish i could personally go down to his house and whack a stick in his head so everything falls into place.

Asif would remain an unfulfilled promise to Pak cricket.

silver lining is that kids growing may remember him and try to adapt his bowling syle (not his life style) that he was not typical Pak pacer. he didnt rely on speed rather brain and accuracy.

My personal believe is that Amir was so scucessful is partially due to Asif that Asif would tie batsmen down (even when he was not getting them out).

Such a loss.

:6: i want asif and aamer back, dont care about few no balls :6:

They can make a 10 no balls per match as long as they pick 5/6 wickets.

This like asking why did George Best drink himself to death. Talent on the sports arena can't be quantified on a word processor.

I have the feeling his career is done. ICC is mad and relentless right now. This isn't a soft reversible PCB ban thats coming up.

Omar Malik
16th November 2010, 23:32
Just goes to show to affect that even him being banned from cricket for a year or so didn't do him good either as he still didn't learn from his past mistakes...such cases can only be by our players who will keep on doing the same mistakes time and again but not learn or change their ways!

The word "professionalism" comes to mind!

Never have I seen a more intelligent bowler after Wasim play for Pak.

All without real Akhtar pace.

Sad to see he just couldn't adapt to the fame.

Asif's career is over he did not have many years left anyways.

I hope Aamir is cleared thats only if he is innocent, otherwise he also deserves a ban of atleast 10 years if not for the whole life.

Various things are very fun to smoke, don't blame him :asif

that isn't the problem. he is clearly a fantastic bowler even if his lungs are black. he is just a seriously dodgy bloke, he just has that look. wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. unlikely to set foot on a cricket pitch again, and I doubt anyone cares.

Afsoos. Nazar e lag ge hamarey 2 world class fast bowler ko. I do think amir has a chance to play cricket for pakistan again, but for asif it seems unlikely. Ask him when he gets banned what the reason was and he will say drinking to much alcohol.

Exactly. Hilarious when smoking pot is the biggest bullet point in any news story. Guy probably kept out of trouble while we was high. :asif

Well the guy was criminally minded. You have to be devious as a bowler but Asif just took it a little bit too far, the exceptional skill of his no ball was quality, should win an oscar for that one. He was one of my favourite test players but, with a heavy heart, I hope he never plays international cricket again. Repeat offenders should be dealt with and he will finish with a 'could have' legacy - possibly may have been Pakistan's best ever test bowler.

exactly, can you imagine trying to conceive an intricate spot-fixing scheme under that kind of influence? even moving off the sofa can be practically impossible after a waft of the good stuff :asif

:(

He could've finished as Pakistans highest wicket taker easily if he didn't get into off field controversies. 500-600 wickets was a minimum. God knows if he put his heart into it, he could've went past Warney .. for starters :asif

dhuan dhuan sa hai ye sama......is the only thing running in his brain 24x7.

I was always his die hard fan. Rated this fool better than Akram, McGrath. His bowling skills were good enough indication of him becoming the greatest ever bowler. But a donkey, remains a donkey. Mighty talent gone deep down the drain.

Dung - that's what he's got in his head.

When the initial drug scandal broke about him and S Akhtar, I thought that the PCB was at fault, due to the PCB's ineptitude by not educating players about banned substances, etc. The opium case, finished him in my eyes. Pak Gov't should not have bailed out the blighter - they should have let him crawl about in the mess of his own creation. After that to me he should not have represented Pak again. IIRC, the blighter still maintains his innocence - even after getting caught with opium and languishing in prison!

The spot fixing is the final nail in his cricketing coffin.
