View Full Version : Last over India-SA - Had it been Pakistan ?

Did anyone see what SA and in particular Amla did in the last over of the innings today ? The last 4 balls yielded no run and Amla seemed hell bent on not getting on the strike. Further, Steyn & Morkel didn't even stretch to get to the wicket to save themselves from getting run out. On top of it, Tsotsobe simply said NO to a single on the last ball as if hes playing a test match.
Imagine had our tailenders behaved in this manner, i am sure another investigation would have started...

You expect the guy who set up the SA innings to throw his wicket away for a non existant single knowing he is the only genuine batsman remaining at the crease?

Also remember when SA needed 2 runs from 60 balls.
Their tailenders ended up being 'very' careless and wanted to play 'winning' shot instead of just making a single. and therefore SA lost.
Had it been Pak vs India, they would have called it series-fixed.
and it actually seems so. serious

there were actually some very strange betting patterns early on in the Indian innings in that 2nd ODI
that said, that last over of the Saffers innings wasn't fixed. That last shot could easily have been a couple of feet either side of the fielder and it would have won the game for Saffers. No fixer is going to rely on a tailender for that kind of accuracy to deliberately lose a game

About the last ball, that was due to them realising that if they lost another wicket, the DL target wouldn't have been increased. But because they had this wicket, the DL target inreased by 18.
About the first 2 run outs...see post 2.

If Tsotsobe or Amla were run out, then India would have had a smaller total to chase than they already have, so it makes sense not to take a risky single.

The last ball of the innings played by Tsotosobe was really strange.
He just defended a full toss straight back, didn't look to score at all.

Immediately after resumption,i thought i heard commentator Arun Lal say, 18 runs would be added to the total. So how can we say SA were conserving their wickets to increase target?

BTW Pieterson is not a tail ender as a matter of fact he is pinch hitter & Amla had to bring him on strike.

Its the last ball of a innings and an easy full toss.He could have atleast tried to drive instead of defending it. And i'm not being conspiratorial here. I was just surprised by this act, that's all.

South Africa seemed to lose all will to score once they reached 250. What were the odds on the score being exactly 250?

I heard if they didn't lose the last few wickets the DL target would have been more

Oh makes sense then. Fair enough. The dumbest thing is that is exactly what SA ended up doing.

surely the late wickets had no bearing on the D/L calculation as that had already been set?
those late wickets will only enter calculations if there's more rain imo

I swear they said it on Cricinfo & guess what they have deleted that line, may be they did it by mistake perhaps the same thinking was there in the SAfrican camp.
