Chennai: Two people were injured when a wall collapsed at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The incident happened on Wednesday morning after ticket sales for World Cup matches started at the Chepauk Stadium.
A heavy crowd gathered outside the stadium and some of them leaned on to the compound wall resulting in its collapse. A 23-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were injured and have been admitted to a hospital.
Chepauk Stadium officials said that the compound wall that collapsed was freshly cemented as a part of the renovation process for the World Cup.

When the crowd leaned on to the wall, it could not sustain the weight and collapsed, they said. Around 500 people had queued up for the tickets.

lol

This is not because of India, don't worry, i would have the same thing if Pakistan was still hosting it.
The format is POOR and I love watching cricket when it's played in Australia.

What does ticket sales have to do with the strength of the wall?

Reminds me of Zia era slogan - "Girti Dewar ko aik dhaka aur do" :D

Hope they build stronger walls for the other stadia - our people dohave that habit of leaning on any structure they find.

It was a freshly cemented wall. When the crowd came to buy tickets around 500 of them leaned on the wall which was not dried yet. Hence it collapsed.

Which bodes the question - why didn't they cordon off that area?

Surely, it's a safety hazard to be standing around a freshly cemented wall?!

It's unprofessional from one angle or the other. :))

Yup it is. Most projects in India are conducted unprofessionally unless the stakes are high enough or the outcome personal to the executing parties.

Thats why we have a inefficient (mostly) public sector but a private sector which achieves international standards.

From my experience of Asians they wouldnt have cared. Probably would have tested the wall to see if the sign was correct or not.

Everything wall is falling in India since Dravid has lost his form.

BCCI needs to employ a Kamran Akmal in each stadium to catch the falling wall. :kami
