View Full Version : A First for World Cricket: Fans influence design of Official Pakistan Kit
AZ
8th February 2011, 14:27
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Boom Boom, Pakistan’s official cricket kit suppliers, have today launched Pakistan’s impressive new kit, in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Pakistan’s new kit looks and feels different, and it is – for the first time ever, the cricket kit of a major cricketing nation has been designed with the involvement and input of the average cricket fan.
Ironically, in the past it is that ‘fan’, the passionate follower on the street, who would proudly wear his country’s colours to every match, but who hitherto had no voice in the process at all!
So how did Pakistan end up as the pioneer in bringing the fans into this process? Simply, by listening to “PakPassion.net”, the acclaimed ‘voice’ of Pakistani cricket fans the world over.
Founded in June 2000 by a few die-hard Pakistani cricket fans, PakPassion (“PP”) has grown from its humble beginnings to become Pakistan’s premier cricket discussion forum, and the place to be for cricket fans from the world over. PakPassion’s 37,000 + members come from all corners of the world; from established cricketing nations such as England, Pakistan, India, Australia and New Zealand, as well as other regions where cricket is not yet established, including the USA, Canada, the Middle East, Italy, Germany and even Japan and the Maldives!
This diverse and truly global membership makes PakPassion a lot more than just the leading Pakistani website on the whole internet; it also makes it the best place to discuss cricket and all issues related to cricket.
PakPassion’s history and huge fan base, and its close involvement with all aspects of cricket in Pakistan, has also made it the best source of articles, interviews and other exclusives on all aspects of Pakistan cricket – leading global news organisations rely on interviews and quotes generated by PakPassion on key cricketing events.
PakPassion has strong links with everyone involved in Pakistan cricket - not just the star players and the senior officials, but also the emerging and younger players and the domestic performers, the regional coaches, administrators, academy professionals, umpires, fitness trainers, agents, marketing companies, etc – all welcome being provided with a voice on PP and a forum to interact with cricket fans.
With this background, it is no surprise that PakPassion and Boom Boom's designers have collaborated on the new Pakistan kit. The fans at PP are passionate about all aspects of the Pakistan team, including the kit and equipment being used by the players.
Cricket clothing and equipment, just like the game of cricket itself, is constantly evolving, in particular at the highest levels: kit designs and fabrics, bats, pads and protective equipment, are all improving as modern materials and technology is utilised to the fullest extent possible by kit and equipment manufacturers.
Hence, many avid cricket followers watch international cricket not just for the live action and the result; they are also constantly on the look-out for new trends and developments in clothing and equipment.
With this background, PP carried out an extensive exercise a few months ago for the global fans of Pak cricket to contribute their ideas on what Pakistan's kit for the 2011 ICC World Cup should look like. Given PP’s strong links with the PCB and with Boom Boom, the best of these ideas were communicated to Boom Boom's designers for their input and implementation.
PakPassion is delighted to report that Boom Boom took the passionate Pakistani fans’ feedback fully on board and have duly listened to the ‘voice of the cricket fan’.
We can now exclusively reveal that the new Pakistan kit for the ICC 2011 Cricket World Cup, being launched today, was inspired by designs submitted by amateur designers and cricket fans on PakPassion in conjunction with Boom Boom's design team! This is a huge achievement not just for PakPassion and our in-house graphics designer Waleed Mushtaq whose designs inspired Boom Boom, but also for all PP members, and more broadly, for all cricket fans.
PakPassion welcomes Boom Boom Managing Director Mr. Ali Ehsan’s pro-activeness in listening to the Pakistani cricket fans, and providing them a say in designing the Pakistan Cricket Shirt for the 2011 World Cup and beyond.

Must say, at first I didn't like it at all, but I've grown on it a bit, it's just that I feel they forced the Crescent on wasn't needed. But oh well, any kit which Shoaib is going to use to bowl 95+ MPH in I will support it !

I have to say very good job from BOOM BOOM. I just need to find some salt so I can eat my hat, never expected this from them and put them down in a few threads.
Obviously there are still little bits where it could have been different, overall 4/5 :)

Just a bit confused MIG, please clear this up for me, a couple of questions:
1) the LAST photo in the thread OP (the kit with the crescent) is our PLAYING kit, right? Is the crescent going to be used for only the World Cup or will it continue after the World Cup too?
2) the FIRST photo in the thread OP (the one with a yellow stripe on the left, NO crescent) is our training kit, right?

in icc tournaments it is always the country's name in front
Paradox
8th February 2011, 14:48
No, in world tournaments you're NOT allowed to have your sponsor name on the front (Pakistan never has Pepsi on the front in the World T20/World Cup, like they do in usual international games, Australia doesn't have Commonwealth Bank/Victoria Bitter, etc etc.).

Well the one that says Pakistan on it will be used in the WC. The Pepsi logo is removed from the front with the country's name added instead during major ICC tournaments (T20Wcs, CT etc).

I'm loving the kit. I love how the colour has been faded from dark green to light green, best kit I've seen so far, produced from Pakistan.
However with the crescent issue - some players prefer the shirts being tucked in, so it's likely that the full crescent won't be shown, I just feel it's been made to big/wide but overall I am pleased and cannot wait to get it!!

Salaam.
Thanks for posting. It turned out to be the same one which was leaked on PP, but I must admit this picture looks a lot cooler than the previous. I think the colour is great, the only thing that screws the whole thing is the yellow moon and star. And also this is not how our moon and star is in the flag, especially not the star since this star is standing straight, while in the flag it is not straight...
Khair, just my opinion :)

Yes, maybe. But I think the training shirt might be more inspired by PP than the playing shirt. The moon and star part was also in the T20 shirt for 2007. Personally, I think that is our best shirt ever. Who came up with that? Loved the colour combination! Shirt's should always improve, but here we like to go backwards :ibutt

Thats great...
If thats in hand... than there is another suggestion ....
As some people are suggesting that the crescent and star are giving a bit hideous look. If the design is still in hands, than this problem can be solved very easily....
The problem with Crescent/Star is that they are bit too solid and giving an impression that its sort of printed on the shirt and not mixing with the overall design...
The solution is very simple. Instead of using the solid pattern, use a ingrained color approach (the way light is mixed with the darker shades in the overall design). But use contrast i.e. where there is dark background, use light foreground of the crescent (so the cresent will look 2 colored)... and same strategy for the star.. This way the crescent and star will look totally ingrained in the design and kit would look fabulous... And no need to use borders for the crescent/star (the contrast to the background color will automatically highlight the border).
Also someone pointed out earlier that PCB logo is also a star, so only one star can be used in the middle (unless and until its a requirement of ICC to have board logo on top left)

There is no religious relevance. The crescent is often used as a symbol for Islam, but it's something that has cropped up over time. There is no significance for the crescent as a symbol in Islam.

I don't like it :(.
The back looks good, and most of the shirt looks good, but I don't like the crescent. I especially don't like how it's outlined in yellow which makes it stand out and the focus of the shirt. If the huge crescent were taken out, I would probably have loved the shirt.
I didn't mind Jazz's shirt with the crescent on for some reason with the black and green colour design. The crescent didn't stand out oddly (like it does to me in this shirt), but sort of blended in with the rest of the shirt. Maybe if there wasn't any yellow outline of the crescent and star it would look better.

Maybe if there wasn't any yellow outline of the crescent and star it would look better.
I agree, couple of posts earlier I also suggested the same that Crescent is looking too odd (not part of original design)... Only if it can be blended in the rest of the shirt... And I also suggested a simple + practical strategy of blending it ...

[QUOTE=Saj;3436770]
+ 1
Yeah, it is a bit silly with two stars in it. And the moon and the star does not look like a part of the shirt as it does not blend in.
Waise bhi check the flag, the star is not straight, it is kind of rotated. Hard to explain...
http://www.flagshag.com/smaller/asiaflags/Pakistan_Flag99.jpg
Anyway, this has got me exited. Looking forward to future shirts, keep the design coming boys.
Here is a picture from the official launch, look's like it is somewhere in between the leaked picture of that white statue and the PP picture with darker colours as the colours and design appear much stronger and attractive on the official picture in this thread than the one from the launch.

I know it's a shame.
I want to love it, but with that yellow border crescent in the middle, I just can't stand it :(. And the problem is it's the whole focus piece of the shirt. If you don't like the crescent, you're not going to like the shirt really.
I like the back of the shirt though a lot :D

Agreed. The shirt looks great ! Solid improvement by BoomBoom. Colors / fading is just perfect. Back and sides look just great.
The only issue is that the crescent looks weird. As Saj bhai said, the crescent size can be adjusted. Only if it is adjusted and we get rid of the yellow border, this will be one of the best kits designed.

How can the design be adjusted now? they have already launched it right so how can they alter the design at this stage?
They nearly got it spot on with the design but had to in a typically pakistani style ruin it with the tp out of purportion moon and star. This has to be the result of a 'Superior' insisting to the designers they want a big moon and star on it lol.

It looks great. The only thing running it is the dumb ICC regulations forcing them to put the country name on the shirt. I just feel like every World Cup, teams have their jerseys and the name is just really out of place and looks awkward. Furthermore, they all have the same front so it really takes away from the jersey.
Jersey itself looks great though.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Boom Boom, Pakistan’s official cricket kit suppliers, have today launched Pakistan’s impressive new kit, barely in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.Fixed.
Nice color scheme on the back and sides, I really like the light green trim on the sleeves and collar. But the crescent as others have pointed out looks out of place. The training kit in comparison looks really good, would love to get my hands on one of those.
The caps could have down without the stupid design on the brim.
Also I agree with Amir there really is no need for the country name. ICC could take a cue from FIFA here.

Apart from the badge there is no other part that is yellow so it doesnt go with the rest of the kit.
If the star could not be put in the right place then theres no need for the star and crescent. It would have looked classier and more like a football kit. I love the colour scheme though.

looks much better than it did on the manequin, hwoever i still dont think the star in that position looks nice, what was wrong with the "pcb logo star" being the star with the crescent aligned like on the flag.
still much better than the previous version, the colours r pretty much spot on. what about the bottoms?
the ones that jazz i think made looked a lot more professional, not bad still.

yaar Jazzz put it on that Shoaib pic you made on the left of your background!

Jazz is good at exaggerating the contrast and background color to make his pictures stand out. No way will Umar gull look so good wearing the kit
But good work nevertheless :p
That colors in kit + Guls picture hasn't been altered at all! This could all be due to the camera used for the pictures though.

The kit will look better on the players. Jazz pic reveals this. An appreciated effort by Boom Boom and Jazz :14: :14: :14:

Nice kit but still a little improvement is needed like the cresent and the star should have been completely white and the background color should have been exactly same as the 2009 T20 kit

What a lovely sight! I am really looking forward to buy this kit here at PP and I hope PP's shop-workers are ready for the order-storm and that they can deliver without any significant delays inshaAllah.

Absolutely love the Kit. Made my day. To be honest i wasn't expecting something as good as this....but credit to BOOM BOOM they have really upped it for the world cup. The dark green colout is perfect IMO. The back of the shirt looks superb!! The "tears" on the back and side is something different than usual and gives it an edge.
As for the crescent moon and the star, persoanlly i don't think its too big nor does the yellow look bad, as the yellow goes with the Pakistan cricket logo.
LOOKS 100% TIP TOP, BEAUTIFUL, AMAZING and WONDERFUL!!!!

Finally we've dumped the lime green and gone for a darker shade which looks a lot more cooler and a lot more menacing. For all those against the crescent and the star being there, surely the "chand sitara" are integral to the shirt as they are to our flag

this is good too if it is going to look like the way it does in Jazzz's picture
i still LOVE the training kit .

I dont think anyone really minds the moon and star being there, just the execution is not right as it just looks like a last minute effort and an after thought.
Im sure the designer/s didnt have the last say, why would someone with a creative mind, take time and effort in designing the shirt and right at the end ruin it with a out of purportion, out of place image that looks its just been copy and pasted on lol.

hmmm, now I definitely prefer the yellow!

Thats what exactly is needed.... The crescent/star is much more prominent at the moment than desired...
But if its blended with the design and not so prominent, than the overall design looks much more appealing... Majority of people are not liking the crescent/star because the yellow border stuff makes it stand out (it just looks like as if someone had printed it on the shirt)...
And I am sure, Boom Boom would be closely monitoring the responce (along with PP admins). Only a bit of fine tuning is needed to the crescent/star section to make it more blended with the overall design...
If that happends the Pakistan WC kit would standout as the best in all teams...

How about having the outline of the crescent and the star in white in comparison to yellow which it is?! How would that look if it can be done! :D

No not that one.
How about you make the star abit smaller

I must say, this World Cup kit now makes the preceding lime green kit look genuinely poor and lacking in creativity! Boom Boom have certainly turned things around!

I have to take my hat off to Boom Boom - I'm very impressed by this shirt and look forward to picking one up!!!
I've given BB a lot of stick for their hideous shirts to date which made it look like the circus was in town BUT THIS IS VERY NICE!!!!
I WOULD LOVE IT IF PAK GOT TO THE FINAL AND A SPECIAL SHIRT WAS MADE FOR THE TEAM JUST FOR THE FINAL WITH THE CRESCENT AND STAR IN SOLID WHITE LIKE IN OUR BELOVED FLAG - SYMBOLIC!!

Guys, everyone has to bare in mind that the designers consider every colour and aspect of the shirt. Also, the manufacturing process of the shirt itself puts a lot of constraints on what designs may be suitable for production.
I think we have the most unique and stand-out kit amongst all teams

Very nicely done by BB and PP fans. Similar to the '07 T20 one I believe but unique in it's own way. and I agree with everyone that the training one should become the kit after the WC. Lovin the return of the chand and sitara :)

Not me atleast :)
I would not prefer any border at all... It makes the crescent/star very much prominent..
What I would like is the faded crescent/star in contrast to the background color... so that it blends with the overall shirt design :)

Nope, I would've liked it light green with a fade

Amazing Kit
but why would they do this ceremony in London? This would have gotten a lot more coverage in Pakistan. I am pissed that we now have to do a launching ceremony of pakistani kit in a foreign country too.
Rant over!

I hope that Jazz can also make the faded cresent/star shirt on Umar Gul...... That would be awsome...
Personally I think Yellow looks good, the only thing odd looking at it is that the 'stripes' on the collars and the arms are light green. I would like to see them yellow as well. Hopefully someone can try that here and see if it looks good.

Brilliant kit and top work by both PakPassion and Boom Boom!
We often think that fans voice can not be heard but we should realize players, companies etc all of them are always looking out for support and suggestion!
So I argue to get behind Team Pakistan and Team Boom Boom as well as Team PakPassion and cheer and support them!

Finally got the size somewhat right... so what do you guys think? I think it looks awesome like this.
Interesting, but the original light green they used is a lot better imo. That was one of the best parts of the kit, adding contrast with the dark - looks like something out of The Matrix. :happyNeo:

the new kit is nice could have been better as we have better designs here on PP.. its kinda similar to that T20 worlcup kit with but that kit atleast had nice colours and the colours from light to dark blend in with each other..PP designers made some great design but this is the best one from Boom Boom. So thumbs up

Being an Indian, it will be first time I will say this.. This Pakistani kit is the best kit among all the kits... I always found other Pakistani jerseys totally unattractive(prolly cuz I am Indian :P) but I wudn't be lying if I say this jersey is not just better than ours but one of the best jerseys in Cricket....
and Saj, it was me, I wud be so pissed at some of the members..they just whine, whine, whine about all the jerseys..if they find complains in this jersey as well, you guys just dont deserve good jerseys..

Question to mods: Do the players in the Pakistan team know that the design of the shirt has been majorly influenced by certain members of the largest Pakistan Cricket forum online?
.. do they even know we have a new kit? :D

Love it and want one now!
The cresent is good in yellow and white. It's a powerful symbol and when the players walk out it will be like warriors taking to the field. The opposition will be mesmorised by this kit.
Well done to all involved.
