View Full Version : "Shahid bhai has tipped me for Player of the Tournament": Umar Akmal

I was watching young Akmal's interview on Geo yesterday. He seemed very confident and especially thanked Afridi for the confidence and faith he has shown in him

There's no doubt Umar played a very mature innings today. So that made me wonder, does he really have it in him to be awarded this tournament's best player?

And no I'm not making predictions. :) The conditions so far point towards a batsman's World Cup.

So can Umar prove himself to be a big tournament player like he did in the past and be consistent with his knocks? He admitted he has started to play more sensibly from now on so that's a positive. His confidence must be sky high right now :umarakmal

Yes he can , Afridi as MoM is very supportive and hopefully Umar will prove that he is not over rated and also there will be a new thread called who is virat kolihi

So glad that he played such a wonderful knock today. Its against minnows, but its a start and hopefully he will gain some momentum. Glad to see Afridi giving so much confidence to the youngsters :rehman, hopefully he improves as tournament goes on and announces himself on the world stage :inzi.

He needs to come a bit higher up in the order me thinks to make substantial contributions, where he has a chance to really show his game, graft an innings, make a big score. With him coming so far down, he's either trying to avoid losing his wicket as too many have already been lost or he'll be hitting out because the overs are about to finish. He has it in him though, it's all down to him I guess.

It's obvious that Shahid Afridi is following every tip that Imran Khan has told him - it's a good thing that he is praising youngsters in that way, it motivates them and eases the pressure on him even though there must be slight pressure on Umar Akmal to live up to the expectations that the captain has tipped him to do, but this is positive stuff from Afridi, let's hope he can keep the team together and keep up the passion, determination and good spirits within the team.

Wasnt Akmal jr suppose to come inbetween YK and Misbah? That would be the ideal position for him imho, he could produce even greater performances than this at that position. Also 3 is a bit too much of hitters down the oder.

About time Afridi does something positive as captain lol..the mocking and tough criticism he has received seems to have done him good.

He has been mocked left, right and center in the media over the last couple of months, especially by many top class past players which include one of his biggest supports, Abdul Qadir. Players like Waqar, Sohail, Basit, Moin etc have attacked him like there is no tomorrow for his leadership, performance and conduct on and off the field. Many of his own players as well have complained about him. It's good to see him finally taking some steps to get his act together. Lets hope this can continue...

On his day - he is simply unstoppable. He came out at a time where there wasn't much pressure on his shoulders, he had a experienced composed batsman as his partner and Umar Akmall was allowed to play his natural game considering the batting PP was taken which is why he suceeded, on his day he is brilliant, just brilliant.

Umar's been impressive thus far. But the real test will come against the big guns, in pressure matches. If he doesn't perform then, it means all this build up is meaningless. I still recognise Umar as one of the most gifted youngsters in world cricket. He plays the ball with such natural flair. He has more natural talent in him than many of the best senior players going around. However, it's all about mental growth for Umar. Here's hoping that the senior Pakistan players and management can help him out there.

well done by the lad, was a bit lucky but made the most of all his chances.

as much as i hate to say i seem to see the team managements logic in holding this guy lower down the order, he takes pressure better than some of our other players.

along with razzaq bowling at 34 overs, i cant believe im saying this, but this pak setup may actually think and plan about things, lols.
