All this Ireland talk got me thinking about another nation being ignored which could be a major ICC nation if shown some focus. Afghanistan have been sitting on their ODI status for a while. Why not invite them for the Asia Cup and make it a 5-way tournament? They could have some competitive matches with Bangladesh too.

It will be good exposure for them if they can play.
However, is the tournament even being scheduled?

Agreed. It will be good exposure for them. They look like a team that learns fast. Should be exciting to see them play.

afghanistan would thrash bangladesh by 100+ runs & give a better fight than bangladesh in the asia cup. bangladesh, havent beaten any of the 3 big teams in the asia cup. they always get thrashed whenever they play against the big teams. about time afghanistan got a chance in the asia cup. bangladesh are a joke of a team and i would have nepal instead of bangladesh in the asia cup. the 5 teams should be - india, pakistan, sri lanka, afghanistan & nepal

you just lost your credibility with this post.
why are delhi people (gambhir, sehwag, amit) so hostile? maybe they should learn from mumbai people (tendulkar) how to be humble.

A good idea to include them. They are tough cricketers.

No idea whether a bigot or a deliberate troll. He once made a list of best one day batters considering strike rate as the ultimate criterion and concluded that people like shaun pollock and mark boucher were in the all time top 10.

ICC is not treating the associate countries well treat them all fair and square. all are under the same umbrella

Afghanistan will be an welcome addition to Asia cup, I am sure they will do far better than teams such as UAE or Hong kong. Afghans have very good bowling attack with a decent fielding side. Their batting is their Achilles heel against quality opposition, hope they improve on that aspect as well.
Asian Cricket council is the one has to included Afghanistan, not sure whether they will do that ATM

Their bowling is quite decent. Thei batting needs improvement. They bowled very well in the T20 WC last year.

omg this is stuff of legend!
Mccullum better than a host of batsmen including tendulkar!
Michael Bevan not making the list at all!!!!
theres a famous saying that you can twist stats whichever way you want to suit your own agenda! But I thought there was a limit to which you could do that! This guy certainly showed us that there is no such limit!
Props to him for the effort though!
still cant believe this
atleast it gave me a lot of laughs! :ajmal

If like the 2008 Asia Cup we have then the 2 teams besides the Big 4 of Asia would be Afghanistan and Nepal indeed because these 2 are the finalist of 2010 ACC Trophy. HK finished 3rd and UAE finished a sad 6th in this tournament.
For those of you who don't know Cricket is no 1 game in Nepal also besides Afghanistan. Nepal have done very nicely at U-19 WC. There list includes victories against Pak, SA, BD & NZ (People of Pakistan this is nothing against you, just telling the worth of Nepal, they have defeated very good teams).

Yup agreed. They should definitely be included.

It was excruciating to see the likes of the UAE and Hong Kong play in previous editions of the Asia Cup.Only the best minnows should participate.
Afghanistan would be a great choice as they are quick learners and are one of the strongest Associate sides at the moment along with the likes of Ireland and Zimbabwe.
