View Full Version : Tilkaratne knows everything about match-fixing – Rashid Latif

Karachi: By accusing Sri Lankan cricketers of match fixing, the former Lankan skipper, Hashan Tillakaratne surely have made a lot of foes in his country however the former Pakistani captain, Rashid Latif came to his rescue by saying that Hashan knows inside out about this menace in the game and a lot of big names would be exposed when he would speak his heart out. “I know him personally, he told me about this (match-fixing) in the 1993-94 as well. Nobody knows the subcontinent players better then him and if he reveals the facts then a lot of former cricketers from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka would be exposed”, claimed Latif while talking to News One TV.

Earlier, Hashan Tillakaratne alleged that match-fixing had been common in Sri Lanka's cricket since 1992 and promised that he would come out with the names of the responsible persons in the near future.

“As far as I know Hashan would honour his commitment and it would be extremely damaging for some ex-players of the subcontinent, but everything will be settled down if a deal struck”, added Latif

Rashid Latif himself renowned for whistle-blowing role in the match fixing. He alleged his teammates of match-fixing in the mid 90s and later an inquiry headed by a former High Court Judge, Malik Qayyum handed over life ban to former captain Salim Malik and fined a few other players.

I hope everyone is exposed. Every single person who has been involved or is involved should be put in jail even if means you lose all cricketers in international cricket. I'm sick of this ********. Get rid of this curse upon cricket once and for all. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it.

Rashid provided enough to justice qayyum and justice nazeer karamat bhandari - and as they're now court property, Rashid can not make them public. however, if you want I can share all the inquiries of match fixing conducted in Pakistan.

there're four inquiries 1) by justice Ejaz Yusuf, 2) by Justice Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim 3) Justice Malik Abdul Qayyum and 4) by Justice Nazeer Karamat Bhandari and only Qayyum commission report was made public.

I hope he would reveal the names, but I understand it is not an easy task for the players to name and deal with the mafia. People knows the end result of this game and who could have forgotten the name of Cronje and his fate.

But I would love to listen the names of Indian counter parts who suppose to be clean and holy ( according to their innocent cricket fans).

I would have agreed with you, but after India continued to lose to Sri Lanka in Sharjah (without Pakistan participating) in the past, and therefore, force us to re think. Indian was below than mediocre, and only Tendulkar was best thing happened to Indian cricket. That's it.

Pakistan used to dominate India in India.
Pakistan used to dominate India in Pakistan.
Pakistan used to dominate India in overseas.

Shall i go on? India shouldn't be ashamed because Pakistan also used to dominate England in England for more than 3 decades before 2006. Pakistan was 'Legendary' team. There's nothing wrong admitting the fact.

^ However, regarding Rashid Latif statement, i would be very careful with his words considering his 'drop and pick up', and claimed the catch in very cheating manner during Bangladesh match. His history of nagging against Punjab, and allegedly against Wasim Akram as captaincy in the past,....etc. It's hard to believe him, but the reputation he has earned, 'honest and reliable', is what earn the attention from us. But he still has backup his statement with the evidences. Otherwise, this will become routine, and hard to gain their trust.

Match fixing, spot fixing...etc exist, but evidences are still required.

How can you equate someone in the heat of the moment made a poor decision and claimed the catch. Not much different then Afridi chewing the ball or running over the pitch. These are poor decisions and that does not compare to planing and effor tthat go into match fixing.

I do not think we will find hard evidence. So much effort went into finding evidence againt the trio by NoW and still we have many who doubt the evidence we have seen. These players who are talking about the fixing had no plans to collect such evidence and I will doubt they will be able to provide anything substantial.

just wandering... if fixing is as prevalent as people are saying dont you have to question everything?

I question everything that happened during the time that Wasim was playing..

I question every Sharjah result...
I question every Sahara cup result (remember those)...
I question every game that the likes of Wasim and Azaruddin played...

Thats the problem with the cancer... it makes you question perhaps too much...

I am of the view that anyone involved in fixing or anything to do with fixing should be whipped in public...

becasue ordinary fans start questioning things perhaps they shouldnt....

Even if certain players were involved in match-fixing, I doubt that they did it openly and in the presence of their team-mates and declared beforehand that they were going to perform badly. Although, their team-mates might be aare of the links of certain players with bookies, they wouldn't have access to others' bank accounts to know what exactly was fixed and how much money, if any, was transferred.

There are very few innocent eye-witnesses to all of this and it is unreasonable to think that any honest player would ever have any solid evidence against a corrupt one.

So, expecting these players to come up with proofs with their allegations is unreasonable, primarily, because most of their allegations are based on deductions, gossip and hearsay.

However, it is the duty of the investigating authorities to contact these players, get information from them and investigate these allegations seriously. These players should refrain from alleging everyone of fixing on TV though and should do this behind the scenes. Also, the fact that these players were quiet all these years and opened up only when they were interviewed raises questions about them, as well.

You miss the point my friend. If you accuse someone of something, it is YOU who has to provide evidence. The onus is not on anyone else except the accuser to provide proof. Akram aside, can you please provide concrete evidence that Inzi, Anwar and Akmal were involved in fixing? I am not talking about hearsay or rumors but cold, hard facts that would stand up in a court of law. Please provide names, phone calls, documents and tapes. Otherwise, your are just another person shouting loudly but saying nothing. Kamran Akmal is basically guilty to most people on this forum, and yet apart from some chatter from a few corrupt individuals, there has been nothing on him. Nothing. And he has probably undergone more scrutiny than ANY other player in the Pakistan team (outside of the three found guilty a few months ago). Either Akmal is a criminal mastermind/genius or he is clean. So, to all accusers, either put up or shut up.

I doubt he has any serious evidences. And Jayasurya and co are against him, now with his stataments that "big guns" will come naked..he is hinting at jaya, Arjuna and co. Nothing will come out from his mouth as he is only blabbering like all other desi politicians.
