I have been asked by PakPassion.net to keep you all updated on Azhars progress playing for Huntly CC in the Stratmore and perthshire premier cricket league in Scotland. Azhar will be playing for Huntly CC until july the 1st/2nd. His first game was against Stoney wood dyce on the 11th of june, on a very unpredictable wicket and against some decent bowling he managed to score 39 when he was caught at square leg.Huntly CC lost that match by 56 runs. On the 15 of june Azhar captained the Huntly 20/20 side in the 3 counties knock out cup. The opposition was put into bat and scored 148 in there 20 overs, Azhar taking 3/19 in his 4 overs. He opened the batting for Huntly CC and scored 101 n.o. This knock included a few sixes etc, one six cleared the boundary wall and if it wasnt for a tree behind the wall would of hit the leisure centre complex a good 130 meters away from the wicket. Huntly won the game and now progress to the semi finals. Huntly have had the services of Azhar for several years now when he hasnt been on international duty for the Pakistan international set up at all ages. We are really proud of Azhars achievements and hope he maintains his place in the Pakistan national side. More updates will follow, weather permitting the games to go ahead.:azhar

Carbon11. Azhar has been offered county cricket, he prefers to play for Huntly CC. As Azhar says, the people of Huntly and the club members have made him so welcome for the years he has been here, he would rather help Huntly than play county cricket. He plays top level cricket when he is home for the summer in Pakistan if not on international duty. We at the club are obviously delighted he prefers to play for us.

No problem at all. The weather forecast is not very bright for this Sunday anyway!

There is a little question of being offered a position to play in county. Azhar cant just pick up his kit bag and make an appearance for Surrey !
I am assuming that after putting in a good performance in Scotland and getting used to the conditions there along with solid international performances, Azhar will be noticed and inducted to the county scene without a problem.
Woodworm - many thanks for taking the time to keep us updated - pls convey our regards to Azhar when you see him next and judging from the commitment you have in following Azhar's work, I would say he's made a good choice.

If he did get an offer, then that's pretty dissapointing.
What is Huntly CC?! I love his skill and temperament, but he is too much of a wuss. This reminds me of the time when he was nearing his hundred in a test match but was run out because of :salman , Salman was suppose to be out but then Darren Sammy pointed his finger at Azhar, asked him to leave, then he did so
It's great to be a nice guy and all, but not a wuss. If he had a good offer to play county cricket, he should've taken it and in any case, it would have been much better for himself to play there   :azhar

Hardly an example of Azhar being a wuss. The umpire told him to go so he went. They realised afterwards it was a mistake.
I would also prefer him to be playing for a county, it would be a better experience, but any decent level of cricket in the UK will be a good experience for him, he's bound to gain something from it.

Who would want to play cricket in the Highlands :))
He should have played for Clydesdale in Glasgow where Yasir played.

Bhai - this is the first real test class player we have - if he wished to hone his skills in nets or playing for samasatta XI in Pakistan - thats his choice.
All he needs to do is to score at the highest level - that is more important.

:)) What?! Playing at a County would be much more beneficial for him than playing in a random county in SCOTLAND
Wouldn't it be better for him if he could improve his batting?

He was confused in the beginning and stood there, then darren sammy came from no where and started pointing at him to tell him to go even though he has no right. Then he walked straight after. He could have atleast asked the umpire to check with the third umpire. Any other player would have either shouted at Sammy or atleast ask for the third umpire. :umarakmal

What is Huntly cc?
Huntly cc is a cricket club that has been playing cricket in Aberdeenshire (not the highlands ) for over 150 years. It has 3 teams, all play in different leagues, the league Azhar plays in, The strathmore and perthshire premier league has attracted a miriad of international cricketers, Adam gilchrist, Heath davis,Gary stead,Justin langer. To name just a few. We have also entertained several county sides up here in freindlies. So the standard up here is pretty good. The late great Donald Bradman and his Australian side in the 20`s toured Scotland and graced the wickets of the North of Scotland. Yes it would be good for Azhar to play county cricket, i think we all agree with that, but remember this, whilst Azhar was in contention for being selected to play international cricket and whilst he was in the u19 Pakistan side, he was playing cricket in Scotland for Huntly. He still got selected regardless, and the time he spent with us, obviously didnt damage his game. Any cricket you play anywhere in the world can only improve you as a cricketer.

Incidently, the day Azhar got selected to play his first test, he was playing for us, i remember the look of sheer joy on his face when he received the phone call from the selectors saying he was selected for the Australia and England tests. Long may he continue to play international cricket for Pakistan, and long may he continue scoring plenty of runs, which i am sure he will with his dedication to the fantastic game that is cricket.
asian123 - have you got something personal against Azhar? All I see from your post is some kind of hate for the guy.

You must be joking! I loved him after his hard fought 92* against England, and still remeber how angry i was at :asif after he casually threw away his wicket at the end.
Im just saying he is a wuss and i dont like that. I was immensely angry at Sammy and Salman for the run out incident, but the fact that Azhar didnt do anything afterwards ticked me off.
I also dont like his decision to play in a Scottish leage against unknown players even though he was offered to play for county cricket. Sure, there his friends and all, but he should always aim to improve himself as a player....he needs that and Paksitan need that as well.
Cant wait for his first century :)
many thanks for the updates, WW!

Poor attitude to not accept a county offer if it was offered.
His game in league cricket will not really improve in comparison to county cricket. Apart from Younis and Yousuf no other Pakistani batsman has been offered a county contract and for him to turn it down is a poor decision and he should have sought the opinion of senior players.

I notice that my previous postings made it look like he was offered a contract this year.I was refering to a previous year.I obviously didnt make this clear, he has not been offered a county contract this year. He was offered a second eleven contract a few years back, but my understanding of it was he was mucked about by the county that offered it, so turned it down, as well as favouring to play for Huntly cc in the reason stated earlier in the postings.. No contract has been offered this year . Hope this clears the contract issue up.. Sorry for any confusion.

I couldnt tell you, but i would assume that counties would be made aware of what players are free from international duties and who havent got contracts. In Azhars case he is only free for a month before going home, so would it be beneficial for a county to have an overseas player just for a month?

Hi there.
Why don't you guys at Huntly CC post your match scorecards on the play cricket server which you have set up like most other cricket club who play at high standards in the UK do? Would be much appreciated if you could do that so we can see Azhar's performance for ourselves rather than being told how many he got etc.

BoomBoom. The reason i am putting in Azhars performances on here is, i was asked to by PakPassion.net, if i hadnt been i would not of posted anything on here regarding the results. the next few stats for Azhar will be posted on here, provided i have the time from my day to day life.
Deadlyvenom, Huntly are in the league below the SNCL. The strathmore and perthshire premier league. The league is a feeder league for the SNCL.
