Well saw the thread where the poster was querying about the most popular PAK brand internationally.
What do you folks think is the most famous IND brand globally? NRI's and non-indians will be in a better position to answer this i suppose!
These are the few IND brands which i think are globally known somewhat...
- Reliance
- ICICI
- Tata
- Airtel
- Larsen & Tourbo (L n T)
- HDFC
- Infosys
- Wipro
- Axis
- DLF
- ITC
- Hero Honda
- HCL
- Videocon
- Venky's
Any other brands which i missed out!

Yes indeed - they have something to do with poultry right?
At the moment they are a bit of a laughing stock cos they decided to sack the manager, only to replace him with his less experienced assistant and despite promises they have not spent any money on the team yet

Surprised nobody has mentioned 2 of the biggest. The Brands with the biggest global awareness without doubt would be Jaguar and Land Rover. Though, originally, Jaguar and Land Rover were the pride of Britain's engineering prowess, they are now completely owned by Indian car maker Tata.

Its Indian owned. Makes the cut I think.
Maybe the IIT graduates are the best known export. Great reputation and recognition. Mentioned in Dilbert comic strips etc.
TATA would be the best known abroad. They gained a lot of attention abroad with the worlds cheapest car and then again with the acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover.
Jaguar, which was struggling with losses, has been doing really well after TATA picked it up. :)

No.
Jaguar Cars Ltd., known simply as Jaguar (/ˈdʒæɡjuː.ər/), is a British luxury car manufacturer, headquartered in Whitley, Coventry, England. A wholly owned subsidiary of the Indian company Tata Motors Ltd., it is operated as part of the Jaguar Land Rover business.
Land Rover is a British car manufacturer with its headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, United Kingdom which specialises in four-wheel-drive vehicles. It is owned by the Indian company Tata Motors, forming part of their Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) group.[4] It is the second-oldest four-wheel-drive car brand in the world (after Jeep).[5]
Who owns it is irrelevant.

None of that stuff is really sold here.
I mean I know quite a few of those, but thats only from cricket!
I guess Venkys would be closest, having just bought BlackBurn and all.

Not really
Blackburn Rovers are owned by an Indian company BUT they are most certainly not an Indian brand, they are British and will remain so regardless of the ownership. Similar Chelsea is British and not Russian, Liverpool British and not American, Man-City British and not Arab etc etc

GA explained it best.
Anyway, thread title should be 'India's most famous companies' instead of brands because half the names mentioned in this thread are companies not brands.

It is the same principle, ownership of a brand alone does not make it a brand of that country
If tomorrow say Tata bought Apple, I would not consider Apple to be an Indian brand
As for Lenovo, I have heard of the brand BUT not sure where it is from

Unless they start making cars that go 'put put put' the brand won't be construed as Indian.
