View Full Version : Tim BRESNAN - one of the brightest starts to Test Cricket

his performance in tests is very impressive with both ball and bat
9 Tests - runs 318 - batting ave: 45.42 - HS 91 - 3x50s - wkts 37 - bowling ave: 23.89 - SR: 50.3 - 5wI x1
Bresnan though has played nearly all of his games in helpful conditions, (Australia and England) so far and it remains to be seen if he has the skill and guile to trouble good batsmen on the flat tracks of the sub-continent and UAE

Seriously good all rounder. England always seem to favor Broad as the golden boy to replace Flintoff but Bresnan delivers whenever the team needs him to. And he's a PROPER batsman.

Broad and Bresnan could both bat at number seven for England and have bowled immensely this series. Bresnan was a monster in the Ashes as well. Great to see.

Looks like Ian Austin, doesn't play like him though.

He's done well in hard conditions with the bat and has bowled well in good conditions with the ball. The biggest test for England is vs Pak & Sri Lanka in the sub-continent though.

Despite the differences in quality with the two sides... Bresnan's performances against Bangladesh were decent, averaged around 30 I believe with the ball and did fairly well on sub continent pitches.
His bowling has impressed me the most - then again he has played in conditions where it has suited the bowlers more, but an achievement is a achievement so credit must be given. Interesting to see how average ends once he plays more games outside England, more in sub continent pitches.
The physical side of him is also exceptional, big advantage in today's cricket... Also his batting has vastly improved.
Good player, and a good start to his career.

Bresnan has improvely MASSIVELY since going to the Ashes last year. I really like him: robust, accurate and aggressive seamer, hard-hitting batsman who does well under pressure. Probably along with Swann and Strauss my top player for England. Also, a pleasure to see him and Broad do well. Somehow it's fun to see two allrounders do well at once.

Also, it appears he's lost weight. He looks thinner than the average India player, though that's not saying much

He is useful for the Team, no doubt. England can seriously consider playing 5 specialist bowlers in test matches with such players. Its a great advantage to have bowlers who can bat.

He's looked terrific ever since Melbourne, that was a gigantic performance by him ... it silenced many doubters.
He could be the next Freddie, he bowls a heavy ball and bludgeons it with the blade. A fiery man.

he's done well so far but he'll struggle greatly in the uae.

Offcourse he won't be having the same figure in unhelpful conditions but he might still do ok. I like the guy because he is very honest trier.

TT Bresnan is seriously good. He is the new Flintov but maybe more solid.
I watched a replay of an Eng-SL ODI played about five years ago, and there was a young podgy Bresnan bowling mostly wide filth and "hit me" balls. How times have changed. :imran

Haha Flintoff was even fatter than that in his youth. I wonder if Samit Patel will turn out to be a top class allrounder?

Bresnan is on top of his game with both bat and ball. I hope he comes good for England for many years to come

Not to jinx him but I have a sneaking suspicion that he will be out with injury in a year or so.

What makes you think that Australia conditions help English medium-pacers?

Medium pace? Bres can bowl at 140kph if he wants to. :)

Yorkie can bowl up to 92mph, he had the fastest deliveries in the Ashes.
He also got reverse swing in Bangladesh and Australia at 85mph.
He has built up a strong (if small) statistical sample against Australia and India, two of the world's best batting lineups.
And he averages 45 with the bat in test cricket.
He is literally a beast.

Freddie was the ultimate cricketer for a brief period. Made the legendary Aussie side loose their sleep.
I think it is more than likely Bresnan will fall down the same route. Looking at the amount ENG will play it is inevitable that he gets the injuries
How he recovers from it will be what will gauge how good he is. If he does i rate him second to Botham himself. :adnan

Bresie is well young, he can have another seven years as a quality all-rounder. Looking forward to seeing how he does!

True flintoff peaked at older age. Bresnan is like 24 or 25 age is on his side.

Really?
Australia? Watson, Katich, Hussey yes. The rest, have struggled in recent times.
India? Haven't scored over 300 yet on the same pitches the opposition is dishing out scores of 600 and 700+.
But agreed - Bresnan is a very good replacement for Freddie for you guys.

Tim Bresnan is a legend, England need to make him a cult figure ASAP.
He's just an old fashioned, pie-eating Yorkshire no-nonsense man who does all the basics right. Doesn't care what the wicket is, he'll see the ball and try to hit it with the bat. He has a refreshing wang it down there somewhere useful approach to his own bowling and it's been getting the results.
I still remember his interview prior to the Ashes when he was asked about if he thought he'd be selected. He gave some cliche but ended it with the immortal ".. so yeah, I hope I can get my ticket to go on the boat and play".
Liked him ever since.

He is overated and his honeymoon time is over . He can hardly swing the ball and plus all the wickets I have seen him take against WI were because of batsmen mistakes not because his brillance. He is one of the best cannon fodder ever seen in cricket history. I have been supported by his pretty average FC record by removing his 55 wicket and 14 matches that would equates to 267 wickets in 100 first class matches.
Steven Finn is much much better bowler than this ultimate cannon fodder(tim bresnan) , who actually look a proper bowler. He got 213 wickets in 60 first class matches.
