:))) at Inzi deserving it more. Why?

And look at the bowling stats carefully

Both Razzaq and Shabir were going over 5 runs per over

Since Malik was asked to bowl as the 6th bowler, it seems that Inzi needed someone to bowl the quota of overs that Razzaq and Shabbir were suppose to bowl.

And seeing as he completed his 10 overs by giving 46 runs is pretty good when looking at the alternative bowling options.

YK, Moyo, Inzi and Butt

The one who uploaded this scorecard is pretty good in interpreting statistics, maybe now he needs to work on interpreting scorecards :akhtar

Actually, that's a howler by the adjudicators, either way we see it. ARazzak & Malik were supposed to share 10 overs, Malik never plays as a specialist bat.

I think, the scorecard is telling a lot of things, if we break it down. Sabbir's figures look expensive because, he bowled 7 overs at a trot, within the field restrictions & against GAYLE. He did his job more than required, by getting out a well set Gayle on his last & 7th over. Had Gayle survived, I can guarantee that Malik's 10 overs would have gone for many, many more. Inzi wanted to off-load few overs of ARazzak & with a known bunny of spin like Morton & a unset lefty Shiva being at the crease, he brought Malik, the offie.

Malik did keep it tight, but didn't get any wicket, the match was even, till 37th over, with 2 set batsmen at the wicket & 95 needed at just over 7. Then came Afridi & in 8 balls, took both the set batsmen & the danger man Bravo too. He later got Bradshaw as well.

Either way, Afridi was the deserving MoM, he got wickets & kept things tight when the regular bowlers failed to do, if you see it that way.

I thought YK deserved it, but well done afridi!

As for all those asking where the afridi haters are, I think everyone thought Afridi would do well with the ball (especially in UAE), it's more the fact his constant retirements/un-retirements/media bs/ego isn't going to help the team chemistry Misbah has created. Especially when you wonder if he's going to be around for much longer (next wc?). That being said, they've done pretty well so far, everyone seems mature and hopefully the team stays on the right track with Afridi being a part of it.

Well after Sri Lanka was bowled out for 131 the MOM award was always going to Afridi or Hafeez if Hafeez had scored a half century he would have gotten it but since he got out cheaply Afridi got the MOM award for his top notch bowling, a batsman were never going to get the award as their was no pressure on them unless they scored a century

Congrats to Afridi, he's definitely a match winner.

However, when comparing his MOM awards to Anwar, I like to take into account the number of matches played as well.

Anwar has 28 MOM awards from 247 games (11.33%).

Afridi has 25 from 326 games (7.66%).

Shows once again that Anwar was an awesome player.

Afridi's percentage is still good - better than any other Pak player aside from Anwar.

If you think MOM awards percentage or number awards define the class then or define the comparison then see how many other "class acts" have lower percentage than Afridi.... including a few class allrounders like Pollock, Razzaq, Wasim, some other class act batsmen and bowlers;

Excellent information; thanks. It shows that the adjudicators are extremely biased towards batsmen. Some of the greatest bowlers (Including Murali, Warne, Kumble & Ambi) are not in the list, despite helping to win many more matches than the MoMs they received.

Thanks.

Excellent observation. The reason could be that .... you have 5-6 bowlers to share 10 wickets among them. It is rare that one bowler dominates and takes most of the wickets.... where as when a team is chasing (or scoring) let's say 270-300 runs with 6-7 batsman, on the average all batsmen have to score @50 runs....which is an extremely rare occurrence. So ... one, two or three batsmen most do the scoring.....which stands out easily for MOM adjudicators.

Also evident that 20 out of his 25 MOM have come while playing in the sub-continent.

Oh boy, you are big time party crasher for all these kids. You forget to add the other important stat, the other 5 MOM outside the sub continent are against either against minnows or against sub continent teams.

Two reasons why even if Afridi got it, it doesnt mean he is a great...

1) He has played a TON of matches

2) His talent is never in doubt. Its his consistency

Everyone knows that when lala performs, no human can beat him to the MOM, but he is not consistent... (only 1 MOS award + 23 batting avg + 34 bowling avg..)

That said, for the last few years he's done really well and he should be (and he is) in the team right now

Not completely fair. As I am pretty sure that MoM awards in Tests, didn't become the norm till late 70's maybe early 80's. Hence, discriminates against the likes of Zaheer, Imran, Majid, Miandad, Safraz etc...

Not sure if MoM awards were universally adopted in ODI's straight away either.

But I could be wrong.

Excellent point....
I think, ICC should appoint a panel which should assign/pick Man of the Match for every test ever played.... just like they assigned the player ranking to the all the players who have played test cricket.

Man of the Match is, hold on to your hats, Shahid Afridi: "I want to be consistent in our performance, it is a good practice, the way Misbah is leading the team, the way he is playing, the coach is doing his job as well. The coach decision was good, he told me to go play my own game, I can change my game now (smiles). I tried to experiment with my bowling in this game, and it worked. "

It took him ages, what a beast.

Though i always wonder, how will his (current bowling style) will fare in tests, he is miles ahead of rehman, cant we play him as bowler who bats down the order in tests, will it work in tests.

at the end of the career he will be #3 ODI player in the world cricket.. I don't want to bring the names of first two odi players because i don't want to bring more controversies here.

at the end of his career with 8000 runs and 400 wickets.. still lot of people will bring so much nonsense about his avg 23 but if you calculate that 23 avg with SR combination it would be similar to a player who has avg 33 and with SR 85.

plus after murali, Shane warne, seqlain and kumble, world will know him 5th best odi spinner in the world... he has better stats in odis than from a very famous Indian spinner Harbhjan.. so his 8000 runs will be just extra bonus for us!

Some people has habit to find something to criticize even in Einstein, these kind of people are failed in their personal lives and can't handle the success of otters.....
