View Full Version : Shahid Afridi currently the 3rd Highest ODI wicket taker in 2011

chui_kadoo
18th November 2011, 20:58
Shahid Afridi has been amazing with the ball in 2011 and is placed at number 3 for the highest number of wickets taken in ODI's.
He has 34 wickets so far this year with an amazing economy rate of 3.96.
If he continues this form for another 3 years then he will go past Waqar Younis's tally of 412 wickets in ODI's

Most wickets Player Mat Inns Overs Mdns Runs Wkts BBI Ave Econ SR 4 5

SL Malinga (SL) 22 21 173.4 10 858 46 6/38 18.65 4.94 22.6 0 3

MG Johnson (Aus) 22 22 184.1 10 817 39 6/31 20.94 4.43 28.3 2 1

Shahid Afridi (Pak) 22 21 187.1 9 743 34 5/16 21.85 3.96 33.0 2 2

Go Lala Go. I hope you go past both Waqar and Wasim and become the highest wicket taker for Pakistan.

Yes he missed both the Zimbabwe and Ireland ODI series. Just imagine how many more wickets he would have had If he had played both series. Thats 5 games he missed. I am sure he would have got atleast 10 wickets in them. He would have 44 wickets by now.

Never mind. There is still the Bangladesh ODI series coming up in December.
I am sure he can grab a few more there as well.

Who is "he"? The OP? I know the OP in this thread said currently, which makes sense.

I am talking about another thread where some were saying that Afridi deserves to be in the team based on his bowling. That's where kkmix is saying he was getting "trolled on."

Some were pulling out stats which I believe were not for the year 2011 to argue? :13:

Anyways, that's what I was referring to in kkmix's post.

The current afridi, is an incridible leg spinner and usefull late hitter. he produce wickets in the most toughtest of times in the middle order. His tactic, to bowl fast and quick between every ball and be unpredictibe and not give many runs, its amazing. i would love to have him as a second spin bowler in test, his bat will be a bonus.

In the first phase of his career, Afridi was a strike batsman and part-time stock bowler.

In the second phase, he is an outstanding strike bowler with occasional pinch-hitting.

All-rounders go through phases like this -- look at Imran Khan. Does the batting career averages for Imran reflect his batting contributions in the second half of his career?

So, please split his 'career' averages separately over the two phases and you will see the difference.

I get the same feeling. He only needs 90 odd wickets more to go past Waqar.

I reckon Afridi will get past 40 wickets for this year. If Afridi continues this form I expect him to go past Waqar some time in early 2014.

Remember folks Afridi is only 31 years young. He can play for another 7-8 years. Wasim Akram retired near 38.
This means 7 years of more cricket he could get 280 more wickets and reach the milestone of 600.

Anything is possible with Lala.

Who thinks he can do it?

Afridi 45 Wickets in 2011 (1 more game left)

PS. Moda i think there was another thread on this but cant find it :$
