Ian Chappell is part of both the Channel 9 and ESPN STAR commentray teams during the ongoing series and is cheerleading for the Indian team like the whole espn star team.

Seems like he forgot for a minute which commentary box he was sitting in during India's first inning at the SCG. Goes on to say something like this about Sachin when he was batting on 35 odd.

" Sachin has got a start on every occasion this so far and has not gone on to make a big score. Australians must be thinking that we keep letting him get off to good starts and he will make us pay soon. He is about to do some real damage real soon."

Mark Taylor couldn't take it any more and interjected right away and says

" Well Ian the reverse of that is also true. It must be playing on Sachin's mind as well. He keeps getting starts and if doesn't convert one soon he will start thinking too and it will put som pressure on Sachin as well."

Ian had no idea what to say in response. :))

it was just a normal tbh,

everything doesnt have to be cheerleading/hating

I agree, there is nothing wrong what Ian said.

Talk about over analysis!!

yeah? Tell that too the espn star team. The have no idea there is a second team also palying the test match, who happened to win the first test match.

Had chappel said that in espn's coom box. i can only imagine Was / Shas ' response.

thats not really that bad, commentators dont have to agree with everything their fellow commentators say you know.

True bullet. But people who have had the torture of listening to espn's commentary would probably appreciate this more.

There is absoluely no australian side of things over there.

I remember when Sachin wlaked in to bat, Ravi was not concerned about losing about losing 3 early wickets. he was happy that gives Sachin more time to score his century.

over exaggeration in both title and OP, just normal argument there.

Thread fail..

Ian just pointed out that Sachin looks in good form and might make a big one at some point in series.

Over analysis. If Ian is a cheerleader, then what is Greig?

Greig-A guy who LOVED Sachin during the 90s. Now,like most of the world simply hates BCCI and is always happy talking against India. I have noticed dat time and time again. His tweets suggest the same.

Probably, the BCCI denied him entry in the IPL. Sour grapes#

What on earth? When did Sachin=BCCI or Sachin=India? If he used to like Sachin in 90s doesn't mean he can't talk against BCCI. That was a strange post.

Besides if you believe he doesn't rate Sachin any more provide us some examples/quotes from him directly.

And when BCCI is opposing DRS you really can't expect any commentator to praise BCCI on this issue...

I think if you put it in context, OP does have a valid point albeit he is over exaggerating. But maybe that's his intention. Just to make it fun :yk

I think Mark Taylor made an excellent remark regarding the psychological factor of not scoring big after getting starts.

I agree with the OP and highly doubt this point would have been ever muttered in the ESPN STAR corner.

You tend to here alot more praise for every freaking thing 'the little master' or any other Indian for that part does. It gets annoying and it's insulting to the viewer. They are basically saying that we, the viewers, are stupid and don't understand whats happening.

I miss the old commentating, the one were you would really care about an opinion. The kind of commentating that would spark up a discussion in your living room.

There are not many commentators left who truly speak there mind, and talk freely or have the cricketing sense needed to be critical. Ahw the 'yes mans' of commentating. I love the awkward silence when asked to give there views on someone's technique and then come up with recycled one liners....Love it!

Having heard Taylor commentate over the years, he probably put that in the most polite manner as well. Not entirely sure if that constitutes pwnage.

India has to believe ponting and clarke are both on zero and go after them.

Ian on start of second day at the SCG. absolutely no comment on the australian side of things.

I think Ian have less vision on cricket than tubbs. Ian just talks a lot and only 20% of wat he says is true. His prediction on marsh gone wrong lol he said marsh will b taking control of innings at no 3 so true so far

octavian
3rd January 2012, 23:01
^^ He was rambling on and on about what a infallible demi-god Sachin is from the time he started his innings to the time he got to 40 odd. tubbs couldn't take it anymore.

On a seperate note Chappelli usually likes to go against the rest of the commentary team- regardless of which way the flow is.

Some1 else feel the same way?

I know!! That was probably the most humiliating thing that happened to him that hour! It must have really shook him up, the ICC should take action regarding such lethal commentary.
