Umar I held Bernard Shaw in high regard, till I came to know one of his quotes, he said soemthing like this ... 'Science doesn't make sense and is useless, if you get one thing solved another problem arises and then you solve that and another it comes' ... this statement is the stupidest like hell in my opinion and brought him lower in my eyes. However I may have been wrong in understanding him right, or maybe he was misquoted or perhaps never even said this?

Schiller
27th February 2005, 23:42
Yar if you look at more of his work, youll find it is interesting and typical shaw perhaps. i recently read one of his

"America and Britain are two countries divided by a common language" ha ha :-D

Have you read him??

No no no, I never read books or people's works specially, I just come accross these quotes when researching some other stuff. However I quite like reading single good quotes from these great minds i.e. greats sayings etc, which apparently I forget very soon, but nonetheless do enjoy them.

Well, Da vinci is there so that I can torture him obviously so that he admits the flying machine ideas were not entirely his own ;) and secondly to explain his religious paintings and what he was trying to convey even though he was a secretive little bugger I reckon with salt, oil and hot irons I could get him to talk..

However some of you have mentioned Muhammed Ali as a very brilliant lad, I believe he was brilliant only in two things, one fighting in the ring and the other, talking and talking and talking. He made sense in only 50% of the chattering he used to do.

Most definitely he did say some good things, but in any argument, he won just because of his jaw muscles. The other person just didn't know how much to speak to counter him, and so fell silent. And people thought Ali won. Huh.

Geordie Ahmed
28th February 2005, 18:07
Entra i know what you mean BUT Ali was a brilliant talker, for someone who had no major education as far as im aware he outtalked a lot of people!

I remember he was trying to justify the Nation of Islam, even though he was wrong he came up with all these arguments that had Parky stumped!

Brilliant talking = outtalking someone ... how come?

I saw that interview with Parkinson, Ali was simply making a fool of himself. GA it might be entertainment for those who were watching that how Ali would talk and do this and that, but the people who were actually listening what was being said, knew he just didn't know what he was saying. Parkinson asked some good questions, which when ali didn't have the answer, got up and started jumping around. The book on the table which Parkinson brought was helping Ali alot in a way that whenever Ali wasn't sure what to say, he started violently turning its pages and got aggressive, turning people's attention away from his comments and more on the book and Parkinson.

I know you like him, even I do yaar, he was a master in the ring, no doubt, but that doesn't mean he was master at everything. But then again its a part of history and his character, which was really exciting and made him what he was. But the only thing that annoys me is praising him how he talked, and argued and beat everyone. No he didn't.

Its that crazy imagination of yours that got you there in the first place!
The only time i went to a mental institute was when i had to select a nutter that would work for me, i thought that i would pick the craziest of the lot since it was no easy job AND you know as well as i do when it comes to being a nutter your second to none!

:oD :oD :oD - Thats me! :oD

Ok leave this topic, let me tell you about an incident that happened when I was in that Mental Institute. One day I heard these people, doctors they were called, they were saying a person has been admitted who claims to have an unfinished business, and needs a nutter immediately to finish it off. I felt sorry for the guy, this happens to some psychos, they think someone's contacting them and they need to do a job. He was given some shocks, but interestingly he ran away one day, don't know where he is these days. Some say he's left the town life and is living near the garbage outside a village, sometimes pops in a nearby internet cafe and constantly keeps asking for lollypops.

Thats amazing because i heard of that very same story but it wasnt true! This story was started by a patient that went by the name sknilartne ( :-D ) This sknilartne (:-D ) had a dual personality, on the one hand he was an all out nutter, who used to make up stories about sane people. that story you narrated was about his future employer who had chosen him for a job because he was crazy AND on the other hand sknilartne ( :-D ) he was a cricketer struggling with the jump in his run up!
