Something is wrong with Misbah this series . messed up selection big time and the captaincy has been below par . in both matches , he allowed Eng to get away by just scoring singles and doubles . We have not got wickets , they can really build on the current score and give us another target of over 260 . Our batsmen cannot chase that down . What we lack in batting , we need to make up for it in fielding and bowling .

It's the "playing safe" thing. Playing a keeper for his batting, because the captain doesn't trust batsmen (including himself).
The result: Cook dropped on 28 and goes on to score a ton.
And he drops another one! There are holes in his frikkin gloves.

Yeah because Afridi, our best bowler is supposed to win matches with the bat as well. Misbah with his pathetic field settings, defensive captaincy and not batting according to the situation lost us the match. And he played an ugly slog to end his misery.

I know. You'd think that a simple concept like this would be easy to grasp.
Afridi is our best bowler, has been for quite a while. 7 jokers above him can't score a run to save their lives - whose job is to score runs - and somehow Afridi has lost us the game!
Afridi is supposed to take all the wickets and score all the runs. Rest of the 10 guys have come for a Waleema.

Not really. I admit it was terrible captaincy considering his aversion to putting someone in the slips, along with field setting.
250 is not a big target though, at all.
With that shot, Afridi exposed our unreliable tail and lost us the game. Runs were never an issue, only the amount of wickets in hand. All he needed to do was take a single and give the strike to Misbah.
How disappointing, considering Afridi is capable (very capable in fact).

Last odi he was putting in an effort , no one supported him . He is a bowling all rounder , cannot save their a$$ by getting 5 wickets and making 75 runs every match . Others need to start contributing , its about time . Misbah 's captaincy and selection has been horrible . If you want to play your friends and favorites , at least , perform and win matches to shut everyone up .

It wasn't just wickets, VM. The asking rate was only getting higher. Afridi played the big shots Vs Patel and the very least Misbah could've done was score singles and not play out dot balls.
Cpt. Rishwat
15th February 2012, 18:16
Afridi won't be allowed to score too many runs by the England seamers. He was desperate to try and whack the spinner while he was bowling. 18 was actually quite a good contribution considering he isn't comfortable against short bowling which isn't delivered by phattoo bowlers.

Even if we did , the problem would still be there . You cannot rely on Afridi to fire every time . Others have to step up , but you are picking worthless guys who are only playing for their spot in the team .
You pick Malik who is not even playing domestic matches and still gets picked while :ahmed:fawad get ignored . The top order wasted too many balls ( Azhar Ali was only on his debut though ) that was bound to create pressure later on , which it did .

No, I agree others failed too.
Not denying his contribution, or asking to get him sacked. Probably our best ODI player and has bailed us out of tough situations, but today, it was just completely unnecessary, that shot.
It's just, I am sure we would've won had Afridi stayed there with Misbah.
And what do you know, Cook and Anderson sort of agree with that sentiment.
If our batting lineup can't chase 250 and keep on getting bowled out, it is just very depressing.

15th February 2012, 18:24
VM, Afridi is not be blamed for today's loss.
Chasing 250 is primarily the batsmen's job - there were 6 of them. Nobody bothered to stick around and play a decent innings. Please don't count Misbah's innings as a good one as it was his super slow batting that forced Umar and Afridi to go after everything.
The blame lies solely with Misbah for horrible team selection, worse field placements and super defensive batting.

Sam, I agree it was one of the most ridiculous captaincy I have seen in quite some time.
My point was, at that stage, it was an unnecessary shot (yes or no)?
I guess I was too angry when he played that shot and had to rant (because I was so sure Afridi would stick it out with Misbah :(), but in retrospect, I can't put the blame on one player alone. I was expecting too much.
It was a very gettable total. Yes team selection was not the best and whatnot, but looking at the score, it was quite a simple target.
We were pretty much on par with England's score (i.e 199-3 Eng vs. 191-5 Pak after 42 overs, as mentioned by someone in the commentary thread), so all that was honestly needed was to maintain that pace and keep the darn wickets in hand. And this was after Afridi had uncharacteristically faced 6 or 7 dot balls. So RR was not a huge issue. Unfortunately, our batting plan has always been to go a bit boomboom near the end. Perhaps if the top order had accelerated a bit, pressure wouldn't be on the ones down below (top 4 all had SR 60 sth no?)
Defensive captaincy? Yes. Too many runs on the board that could have been avoided.
Terrible batting by him though? No. I thought he took singles and doubles well, granted not too many boundaries but IMO, singles and doubles would've done the job with Afridi or Umar Akmal at the other end.
Losing wickets always creates pressure and I am honestly getting tired of our batsmen's incapability to play out the 50 overs.
Need to stop relying on Afridi the batsman, guess that's where the fault lies on my part. I don't know why after all these years, I keep on thinking otherwise.
