Shoaib Akhtar blames Shoaib Malik for Pakistan's poor performance

Karachi: Feb 21, 2012
Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has blasted the performance of the national team in the one-day series, singling out captain Misbah-ul-Haq and all-rounder Shoaib Malik for scathing criticism.
Shoaib said that the Pakistan team needed to review its selection policy for one-day and T20 matches as there was no longer any place for players like Malik.
"He has been playing for around 12 years and he has accomplished nothing big. He and some other players who used to wait for hours to meet with the then Board Chairman Nasim Ashraf were rewarded," he said.
Shoaib claimed that Malik had indulged in politics and intrigues in the team being responsible for the ouster of senior all-rounder Abdul Razzaq.
"He even targeted Shahid Afridi and wanted him to be sent home. At one stage manager Talat Ali was prepared to send Afridi home but we all took a stand and said this would not happen," he recalled.
Shoaib said that it was unfortunate that Malik was still being played at the expenses of more deserving younger players.
"Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq batted well today within their limitations. But the fact is that we need to blood attacking players in our one-day and T20 teams. What is most surprising is that Pakistan which is famous for producing pace bowlers is today struggling in this department."
The former pacer said that the current crop of pacers had done nothing of note for a while now and even in the series against England .
"We need to find new fast bowlers or else we will find it difficult to even bowl out Bangladesh."
Shoaib also castigated Misbah for his passive attitude and captaincy.
"What is he doing where is the aggression. You don't see any aggression in his captaincy in this one-day series. He needs to rethink his policies."
The Pakistan team has come in for scathing criticism over their performances in the one-day series against England with the Chairman of the Board Zaka Ashraf also hinting at having separate teams for tests, ODIs and T20 matches.
With Australian Dav Whatmore due to take over as head coach after the England series pundits are expecting changes in the management and team for the Asia Cup with one newspaper claiming that Shahid Afridi was once again being considered for the captaincy for the coming tournament in Bangladesh.
Afridi who was sacked as captain last year after a dispute with coach Waqar Younis and the Board has said he is not interested in the captaincy any longer.(PTI)

Since WC 2011:akhtar had a bad relation with Misbah, for not picking him up for the India Vs Pakistan Match. so far I know.
Whatever, :malik was a great hero for Pakistan. Once he was also the captain. Suddenly he was out of the team because of.......and came after 2 years. I think he need some time to get back his form back. Even if he doesn't, criticizing him is not a good option to me. :akhtar had been rough, to me.

Because he was probably drunk most of the time!
Also like Rameez Shoaib is finding he is a much better player from the commentator's box. The game is so easy from there. Younger viewers don't need to know that Rameez was no better than Farhat (and both owed their continued selection to family connections) and Shoaib madder than Sarfraz.

Fair enough but the only new thing he has added is the Malik bit. He talks about finding new pacers - fair enough, but anyone can see and say that. He has to come up with names. Does he believe there are better pacers out there who aren't being picked? If so name them. If not then his comments aren't helpful - he then should be saying what work needs to be done with the current pacers to get them upto scratch.
It's very easy to highlight problems - more difficult to identify solutions. Hence Actor has fallen into the biggest trap of the ex player - finding out that the game is so much easier from beyond the boundary rope. However 'ol bigmouth knew that in his playing days - that's why he used to hobble off all the time with phony injuries.....until Bob and Inzy took a stand against his nonsense.

^Shoaib was one of the smartest bowler of his time, cant take that away from him. People tend to bracket him as only a fast and stupid bowlers but there is a reason why his career stats are a level above than that of Lee & Tait. That despite of bowling in dead highways in Faisalabad and Multan.
I think you havnt seen his show and only judging it by the quotes. Many of his comments on IK, YK or Misbah dont reach these telegraphs as they are only looking for spicy stuff.

So did he come up with any solutions? Did he name any pacers?

Malik is bad blood for the team...he is too involved in the politics of team & causes bad morale.
It's clear that the team don't want him in the squad. His recent record is hideous & should be dropped on that basis alone.
Misbah I think has signed his own death warrant for the ODI captaincy after his insistence to put Malik in the squad after he was not originally picked.

21st February 2012, 20:28
Although not a fan (actually I am not a fan of any player - just the team) I think the Malik selection made sense to a degree. Misbah saw that England had a big problem with spin after the test series. So he wanted to play as many spinners as possible - 3. He also knew that the tail was poor and that Rehman can't bat for toffee. So he needed a spinning all-rounder.
The only problem? Malik brought too much baggage and he was horrendous.

What the heck is the point of playing Adnan Akmal? The guy is horrible with the bat and is an okay wicket keeper. Why can't PCB just stick with Sarfraz Ahmed?
Send Sarfraz at #6/7 and he will still do better than Adnan and he is #1 glovesman in Pakistan. So why not select him? Why waste the spot on Adnan?
Secondly, ONLY 1 FAST-BOWLER? Are you KIDDING ME? The #1 reason Pakistan lost today is because of Shoaib Malik - he scored 29 today after so many chances and he didn't bowl - why did Misbah pick him? I would say Hafeez contributed more to the match with his economical 10 overs than Malik. DROP MALIK AND BRING IN HAMMAD AZAM already!!! sheesh.
I will repeat what I said in other threads and this is now evident "Ever since Malik was given welcome back, Hafeez is not performing"
And I really do feel for Hafeez - the guy is behind Pakistan's success in 2011. Before this England series, the guy was practically the next captain - now he probably senses that Malik will walk into that role.

Malik inclusion has nothing to do with Hafeez's downfall! Hafeez needs to sort out his poor technique! Its not rocket science! If he keeps on failing like this, Im afraid he'll be dropped! He needs to prove himself in the t20s! Just like Peiterson and Cook did!

I'll say it again Misbah is too close to Malik and the Akmals. He was part of that group that first went after Younis, and then Yousuf....I still have a hard time trusting him. He has doen some really shady things in the past, and insisting on playing Malik his buddy, being one of them.
I also have no doubt in my mind that Misbah also had something to do with Sarfaraz being dropped from the ODI team and keeping Adnan Akmal around for the ODIs. Since his other buddy Kamran can't play at the moment, why not his other younger brother to keep the buddies happy, right?
Doesn't matter that the guy can't bat to save his life, and is just an average wicket keeper.
People still can't see Misbah is doing more harm to our future in ODI cricket (where the money is, and his buddies wanna play), then good. It's high time he's removed...even from the ODI team, let alone captaincy.

if thats the case then these players are selfish. they put there personal differences higher then the country. they think its ok to be whitewashed by a team not reputed in ODI but show there anger on the selecrion of one particular player. and by the way why they are ok with the selection of imran farhat.

Actually at the end of the match I was on the way home listening to TMS on the bbc and boycott and aggers were looking at the series as a whole and the test series. For this particualr match boycot blamed Malik for slowing the run rate down and playing like a mug. We were going ok upto then! bakwaas khilari, barely a cricketer!!

:))) Akhtar hates him soo much, cause Malik was Nasim Ashraf's chamcha
what is Shoaib Malike really doing in the team? since his comeback he has not perfomred at all, its better we give a chance to another younger player, lets stop this parchee system, and brown nosing
