I was reading this news item regarding chief selector Iqbal Qasim:

Yesterday he was in Badeen (which I think is a remote area) where he assured cricketers that his company National Bank will sponsor a big cricket tournament.

So Iqbal Qasim is the chief selector and he is still also an employee of National Bank sports division. Is not this conflict of interest? For a new player selection in the national team, how he will make sure that a National Bank cricketer is not getting unjust preference?

I think he should have resigned from National Bank before accepting chief selector job.

In other countries you would have thought that the resignation would have been a given - to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

However Pak cricket is different - we had that loon threatening to kill himself if Farahat wasn't selected as a selector and chief selector.

When Alec Stewart was playing and his father was the England coach, when Alec's selection was being discussed, Stewart snr just excused himself from the meetings for that part - so that no charges of nepotism/conflict of interest could be made.

Maybe IQ will do the same?
