View Full Version : Dominic Cork Pundit Thread

I've been listening to Dominic Cork on the ITV 4 IPL coverage and he comes across as rather irritating:
- he keeps acting over-cheeky and rude to his co-analyst sitting next to him
- claimed that had IPL has more English they would have signed up exciting new English talents (I couldn't recognize most of the 'exciting names')
- hinted that Miandad could sit back in his crease so much because he would never be given out LBW.
- made a strange statement that IPL is bigger than t20 world cup because all the best players in the world play it. I appreciate it that IPL is pretty big but any unbiased analyst would admit that there are some big t20 stars across the border who do not play IPL.

International cricket is international cricket.
There are T20Is and then there are T20s.

Very underrated player, but not a good pundit.

He must have received money from BCCI for saying this or looking for an IPL contract?

Wasn't he given out lbw in Pakistan just once in his international career?

No DRS back then... :KP

I don't think that was the reason.

That's because he is.
Most people who humiliate themselves on such a regular basis would give up on TV commentating and punditry and do something else though, so you've at least got to admire his persistence!

Miandad had such a good tecnique that he was not susceptible to LBWs...

No Miandad used to hypnotize the Umpires..... he used to magically disappear the stumps behind him....!!!!!

Minus Miandad comment...he would have been a legend on PP :))

I don't think Bill Lawry was ever given out LBW in Australia either. And the West Indians were moved to kick over the stumps at NZ umpiring in the 80's.
Thank goodness for neutral umpires & DRS :)

Thought Cork did well as a pundit from what I have heard so far.

English ex-player pundits are ten a penny at the moment, and most of them are pretty forgettable.

He's not too bad when he comes on SKY SPORTS, I find Ian Harvey quite irritating.

He was out lbw 33 times in 189 innings.
Of those 33, just 8 were in Pakistan.
He went nine years before being given out lbw in his own country.

Cork is only worth listening to on Sky Sports when he either has Ian Ward or Charles Coleville winding him up.

You seem very upset about PPer's opinion, if you are so irritated why don't you just leave and join ICF.

PP users consists of a number of passionate fans each with their own opinions and views. If you want to trivialize a discussion by making blind sweeping statements, you are not adding any value to the discussion. How can you say that I'm against every aspect of IPL? As a matter of fact, I think it can be good fun and I check out the highlights every second day. This also does not change the fact that it is in a cricket player, analyst and commentator's interest NOT to highlight any negative aspect of IPL. Criticizing IPL does not make financial sense. This point does not take away from the positive aspects of IPL which is that it manages to attract many big players.
By the way this thread was about Dominic cork and not IPL alone.

I just put what I read on this forum. I did not put my opinion in that post. Did I?
BTW thanks for your advice to join ICF. I find this forum more interesting than ICF. Nope I am not irritated with those comments from Pakistani fans, infact I find these things funny and interesting.

He makes some good points as a pundit on Sky Sports but obviously all commentators, cricketers and cheerleaders have to pander to the IPL. :)
