View Full Version : 103- A Love Story

This is the tale of the man they call The Beast
Lahore 2006, upon Indian cuisine he doth feast.

Every single run fuels his fury
For this is a man who lives for the gory

Unabated, unabashed, he revels in demolition
Mayhem his bat, violence his ambition

One six, two six, three six, four
Ask Bhajji if he still wants more

Wild like fire, raging like a bull
Hook, cut, drive and pull

What tornado has hit us, the Indians scream?
What blitz is this, is this a bad dream?

Is this a tempest in the guise of man?
Is this a tsunami, or a hurricane?

The Afridi is merciless, dark and brutal
When he's on strike, six fours is frugal

Duck, Bombay duck, you've been torpedoed
India at Lahore have been Afridi-oed

Thank God, Dravid, you've been let off free
For The Beast only got a hundred and three

But he paces his dungeon, awaiting more glory
So I can recommence this violent Love Story

Now I'll do one in Arabic and send it off to the local newspapers here.

The Arab world must wake up to the phenomenon known as The Afridi.

hi Bob,

Hope you are well.

2 thoroughly enjoyable days of cricket from Lahore so far and best of luck for the remaining 3 days to you and the team.

I just wanted to pass on a wonderful little poem to you, that perhaps you could read out and translate if necessary to Shahid. It was written as a tribute to Shahid's innings of today, by one of our site members.

Best Regards

Saj

Jazaak Allah Khairun Ikhwaan for all the praise even though the only One worthy of praise is Allah subhaana wa t'aalaa.

Wa maa tawfiqee illa bi Allah.

I didn't realise when I first posted the poem that it would evoke so many appreciative responses! I'm quite embarassed now, with all this attention.

I was at work when Afridi 'exploded' into the Indian bowling and with Allah as my Witness, I found it hard to breathe normally, or maintain any semblance of dignity in my office. After the fourth six off Harbhajan Singh, I almost collapsed in a paraoxysm of ecstacy. I can not explain why a 28 year old father of (almost) two, was behaving like a three year old in Charlie's Chocolate Factory.

Its one of those beautiful mysteries in life, inexplicable and powerful.

I liked this line:

"What tornado has hit us, the Indians scream?
What blitz is this, is this a bad dream?"

:))), just imagine the Indians screaming in the background, and Bhajji reapeating those words in a soft spoken voice, "what tornado has hit us, my fellow team mates screamed?, what blitz is this, is this a bad dream?.

Just imagine Bhajji saying that :))) .
