View Full Version : Why We Moved !

Saj
31st January 2005, 12:08
Quite a few of you must be asking the question why move from SN. The site was growing, the site was successful so why move.

Basically you have to realise that the old PakPassion site was not ours, but belonged to Sportnetwork. All the time and effort put in by the moderators was mainly for the benefit of SN, we were never recognised or thanked at any time for any of the work, even though they were receiving over 700,000 hits per month due to us. We were limited in what we could and could not do, which limited our options for future development on the site.

The site itself was just one of a standard template that SN provided so we were just "another" site to them and we could not change the look or feel of PakPassion.

There had been many occasions when posts had been edited by SN, posts deleted by SN, posters banned by SN, without notification to the moderators.

Recently I had been threatened rather rudely by SN that they were going to close both PakPassion and ICF down, because they were receiving too many complaints from both sites. You may have realised that there had been periods recently when both sites had been "switched off" for a few hours. Basically the life of PakPassion was in SN's hands and they could activate and deactivate and close the site down whenever they wanted to.

Our destiny is in our own hands now, this site is ours and we can basically do whatever we want with this site. We can make changes as and when we feel like it, we can actually do what you guys want and are suggesting. We have a lot of plans for the future and we can implement these knowing that we are not "dogsbodies" for someone else.

Whilst I realise that the vast majority of PakPassioners have moved with us over here, please inform any that may not have heard about the move.

Many thanks for your time.

Great explanation and post Saj bhai :-) Well said |-T
SN kee aisi toh taissi...anyway if ICF closes down I have no complaints cause I hardly post there.. but for there sakes and for our ffriendly battles I hope it stays. ;-)

Initially I didnt like quite a few things on this site but I can tell u we have to be patient and things will slowly get sorted. I ahve sorted quite a lot of my probs accessing and now I love it and enjoying it. |-A :-)

The fact that there was a threat as to its closure a few times meant that we should try to have a place of our own perhaps.
Not to mention we can try to customise it much as we can

p.s this doesnt mean that everyone will be satisfied ;-)

MIG, firstly my sincere apologies for not replying to your e-mail. I promise I will reply in the next day or two. Things, as you can imagine have been pretty hectic the last few days.

Thank you very much for the email and for your kind words and prayers, which act as a great incentive and spur to all those working on the site.

MIG, we are looking for sponsors for the site and if you are aware of any company or anybody who may be interested, please let me know and I will endeavour to provide full information to them.

Saj,

thanks for explaining why we had to move....I agree that the move was necessary, as regards funding issues - if were likely to get 700,000 hits per month then that would be attractive for advertisers.

Good job Saj.

Perhaps you can consider Google advertising? I have seen that on similar sites.

If possible, a mass email could be sent to all those who ever registered on PP informing them of the move. We moved rather quickly and some people may not know of it.

Nah, its a good move Saj. The format and layout of the site is much better, and now that the posts are on different pages, it means finding posts will be much easier. Hope everything runs smoothly. I guess the only problem is its not as easy to switch over and see what the neighbours are saying, but its no big loss

Lets hope the site grows and grows, INSHALLAH

What about everyone else? What are your views about PP gaining independence 8 months after the event??

I agree it was the best thing to have happened! i like the old PP style and i was initially dissapointed we moved BUT im chuffed now!
This site is 10 times better than Sportnetwork - also the freedom to do what you want (obviously withing boundaries) is refreshing!

ALSO its good that we have moved beyond our "friendship" with a certain site (they still feature BUT not as heavily as they once did)

Brilliant move :19:

Brilliant move, I was pessimistic whether the new site could cope with the new members and extra site hits. There were expected initial teething problems and now the website is stable and looks fab. Well done to the PP admin and everyone that contributes to make this possible.

I was a member at PP on SN but never posted maybe once or twice (didnt like the layout). Then PP moved to this new place in Jan using phpbb, Waheed and Umar had done good job on it but I have always hated phpbb forums so I didnt like it though Ron made it quite bearable. I love the current PP because I designed it :P though I wish everyone would get along.

Well folks at the end of the day this site belongs to ALL at PakPassion and it is YOUR site.

We make PakPassion what it is and we can ALL continue the success.

We ask for some healthy debate, good quality articles and of course the Suggestions forum is there for your ideas - no idea is a daft idea in my book.

I think this thread is a good opportunity to thank all the guys working with me on the PP team - they are a fantastic bunch of hard working people and I'd also like to thank everyone who posts on the site for their continued support and all the guys who send us e-mails appreciating the work we do.

We have plenty of new ideas and ventures coming up on PakPassion so watch this space and tell all your friends about the site.

Not a penny, in fact when we first moved here we had to dig into our own pockets to keep the place running and then we had to dig again some more when we needed to purchase a dedicated server because we had too much traffic to stay on the virtual server we were on at the time.

To be honest it's quite a thankless task but I view it as a hobby and the effort we all put in seems worthwhile when we see PPers enjoying the place!!

They were all posted on the SN software and we couldnt transfer them here without SN's blessing. As far as I know SN have 'hidden' that forum and possibly deleted it.

In other words them threads be gone!! :12:
