Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- A bomb planted on a bicycle at a political rally in southwestern Pakistan's volatile Balochistan province killed seven people and wounded 12 on Friday, a senior police official said.
The blast occurred as the provincial leader of the Awami National Party, part of Pakistan's coalition government, took the stage to speak, said Wazir Khan Nasar, a police official in Quetta.
The provincial leader, Aurangzaib Kasi, was among the wounded, he said.
While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, authorities believe Kasi was targeted because of his party's platform opposing extremism in Pakistan.
The ANP, as the group is known locally, is the largest Pashtun party. Its strongholds are in Balochistan and Sindh provinces.

Where do these weapons come from ?

Why as a nation are we awash with arms ?

Bombs, guns in every nook and cranny. Deweaponisation of Pakistan is a must.

May Allah (SWT) give sabr to the families victims. RIP to the deceased.

The biggest arms market is on the Pakistan and Afghanistan border. Pakistanis take great pride in weapons. There are some ethnic groups that take pride in their gun culture and say things like"guns are like our jewelries" and "guns flow through our rivers". Deweaponization is a must but will never happen in Pakistan.

Yeah, deweaponisation is the very first step to take in order to curb local conflicts, and why all these arms ? Don't know, some "martial" spirit going on there...

...my own uncle (we're from Kashmir) said that "if there's no Kalashnikov in an house, just think that there's no man in that house."

No, its actually the opposite. Its because of not accepting ethnic diversity and trying to hammer everyone into one big group and not giving rights to people they deserve. Lack of local govt. and power and accumulation of power in the center. Lack of tolerance for people with minority ethnicity and religious affiliations. Unless we stop this nonsense of "we should be all muslims and Pakistani's first" nothing is going to change. We need to celebrate and promote not criticize our diversity.

One of the media and academia's axiomatic constructions about Pashtun is that Taliban are Pashtun nationalists. This construction is based on distorted one-sided information and selective references to the Pashtun history that too are misrepresented to concur with the notion that Taliban are Pashtun nationalists. Drawing upon the current Pashtun ground realities and history, I will argue that Taliban, both in Pakistan and Afghanistan, are mere proxies of the Pakistani state to wipe out forces of entho-nationalism among the Pashtun as well as temper with Pashtun cultural identity on both sides of the Durand line in the state pursuit of the foreign and domestic policy objectives set and controlled by the military establishment of Pakistan.

I think that the Taliban movement in Pakistan is a modern equivalent to the proletarian traditional peasant uprising : that's why the first man they'll always target would be the "malik" of the area, as he represents the ages-old authority and by killing him they'll disturb the traditional social structure.
After that, they take over their lands and redistribute them to the poors - it's actually how they gained popular support, initially.

Talibans are the new Bolsheviks.

But yes, all Talibans are Pashtuns, but all Pashtuns are not Talibans, and Talibans don't represent the Pashto culture, in fact their the total opposite of the "traditional" Pashto culture and its values (authority being sacred, etc)
If they cared for Pashtun culture, they wouldn't have bombed poet Ajmal Khattak's tomb, amongst other "achievements".

BTW, I think ANP is electorally KO in Balochistan, Achakzai's the heavyweight there, and for the right reasons.
In KPK they're still strong in the ring, but not as they have been ; in Sindh, Karachi, as long as they play the hate-cards (confronting muhajirs, mainly), the poker's still on.

Btw being Pakistani first is NOT telling people to 'not' be Punjabi, Pathan, Baloch, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Hazara, Urdu Speaking....but rather before ALL of those identities yourself under the umbrella of PAKISTAN.

*sigh* please. We all know Basha Khan/ANP and their views towards Pakistan, before, during and after her creation.

Pakistani Pathans are...Pakistani. What next in the article, that Younus, Gul and Afridi are 'traitors' to Pushtuns Nationalists over the border?
That Imran Khan (a clear open Pakistani Nationalist who loves Pakistan) is a pawn in the (as usual) 'Punjabi Establishments' game?
Or maybe the Proud bahadur Pakistani Pathans who voted to join Pakistan (a point where it seems some over the border are unfortunately still bitter over, so much so that they think KPK are Ghaddars, trust me, my friends have shown this) even when Basha Khan tried to stop this (by various methods)?
Maybe the Pathans of Afwaj e Pakistan are traitors also?

Please...instead of random articles written by random people (who aret even from Pakistan perhaps)...look at the facts. Go to the graves of those who have laid down their lives for Pakistan...you'll see. Have a look at Pakistan's sporting history...you'll see.
Hell, when we were close to war with india in 2008 (and in the future also)...we'll see/have seen.

For the love of God stop dividing Pakistani's, act with Unity FFS. I see no different when I see Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Muzaffarabad...no other Pakistani should either!

Mohsin, watched this show (Ary News) some days ago, about peoples of FATA/tribal areas:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fFii00cnRYY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It was really touching to actually see how patriotic they are... at one point the host was all "but don't you feel bad that the govt. doesn't give a fly about you ? And let the drone attacks happen ?" (you know, as if he was trying to have a "strong" reaction) and they answered by "no, we're glad for what they already did for us." :(
All throughout the show you had these comments, some wanting to "fully" be part of Pakistan, other simply showing their love for the country... reminds me of shaheed Nek Muhammad Wazir, who said "we, Pashtuns from the tribal areas, are not citizens of Pakistan... we're the soldiers of Pakistan"...
And how did the Pak Army thanked him ? By letting him - and his peoples - being droned away in the dust of history.

Looney

Thank you! Yeah I saw this episode as well funnily enough, and this is why it genuinely makes me sad and actually brings a tear to the eye when some people:

1. Try and make out, Pathans aren't 'interested' in Pakistan/arent Mohibbe Watan Pakistani's exploited by those outside Pakistan in the name of Nationalism/politics/historical jealousy in the 'but but this should be ours' sense
2. When I see people actually talk about Sindh, KPK, Punjab, Balochistan...ahead of Pakistan :(
