Pakistan clinched a thrilling 3-2 win over Thailand in the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group One first round tie in Lahore at grass courts of Bagh-e-Jinnah today.
Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan served in 21 aces to stun leading player Paradon Srichapan.
Qureshi's powerful serves knocked out Paradon 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the first reverse singles before Danai Udomchoke got the consolation victory over Pakistan's reserve player Shahzad Khan 6-3, 7-6 (1) in the last singles.
Memorable match
"This is the most memorable match of my career," Qureshi told reporters after his heroic three-hour win over Thailand's world No. 33 Paradon.
Qureshi featured in all the three Pakistan victories in the tie. He beat Udomchoke in the opening singles Friday and later together with Pakistan's No. 2 Aqeel Khan he won the crucial doubles against Paradon and Udomchoke yesterday.
Qureshi, wearing a p-cap, never looked in discomfort against Paradon, who appeared to be under tremendous pressure throughout the three-hour match. (AP)
