Question: Can people without CNIC # donate to PTI's campaign? When donating, the page asks for the CNIC number.

Also, even though the option is to pay in pakistan rupees, I'm guessing foreign accounts can be used for this?

You can use CNIC of your relative or I can give you mine. This is just a formality.

Besides you can fund without CNIC to other funding options on http://elections.insaf.pk/

For example click on "fund your tsunami" or fund TRP banner. You can also fund via insaf.pk traditional page.

I see. MY CNIC has expired. But since you said it's just a formality, I'm guessing i can use the old CNIC number and donate, and it should work.

Also, even though I am not in Pakistan, and hence have a foreign bank account, it will just deduct the appropriate amount in dollars

The excitement surrounding elections has reached fever pitch! When Waqar and Hina Malik asked for the bill at a popular desi food restaurant at Port Grand on Sunday evening, they were pleasantly surprised to have 10% knocked off the bill — all thanks to the MK Nation Imran Khan kurta Waqar was wearing.

“Twelve of us had gone to Ghaffar after the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) car rally for NA-250,” says Hina, a 25-year-old housewife. “The manager saw my husband’s kurta and was eager to know where we got it from. He kept asking about it so my husband gave him his number and said we would let him know where we got it from. When the bill came, we saw that we had been given a discount!”

When asked, Hina says the manager informed them the 10% discount had been given especially because her husband had been wearing the Imran Khan kurta.

“Even at the rally, everyone loved our kurtas,” she said, adding that she had also painted her nails according to the PTI flag colours. “I am voting for PTI because I want change! I am sick of tried and tested parties and I don’t care about the negative aspects about the PTI, I only care about the positives.”

MK Nation’s IK kurtas, priced at Rs4,000 each, were first seen on the runway at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week in Lahore end of April. Maheen Kardar of MK Nation, says, “The response has been tremendously overwhelming. Our productions have worked nonstop since fashion week ended and as we speak we are at 5,000 kurtas plus!”

NOTE: Everyone's Love for IK is highly appreciated, but it is a must for all of us not to sit at home on 11 may, Go to the polling station and Vote for Change.....Vote for BAT/BALLA.

Mark your love by stamping the BAT on 11 May.

aaj hi looney maang raha tha karachi keh kisi halkay ka...

Independent surveys to scientifically monitor the progress of the NA-250 Constituency show some very interesting results

PTI leads with 38%, MQM trails at 30% while JI gained to 15% (after their seat adjustment with PML-N)

So with only five days left the results clearly show that the competition is between PTI & MQM, while JI a distant third, is evidently dividing the anti-MQM vote bank to only help ensure MQM to sneak a win

Spread the message, make people aware that we all need to be united for a Naya Pakistan starting from Karachi.

Three PTI supporters gunned down

FAISALABAD: Three relatives of a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate for PP-51 were gunned down allegedly by the supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) on Sunday over an election-related dispute in Chak Jhumra, police said.

The Muzaffar Tatla group, of Chak 185-RB, killed Safdar Bajwa, Ghulam Murtaza, Ali Raza and injured Ihtesham at their outhouse.

Police said the Tatla group had arranged a meeting for PML-N candidates for NA-75 Ghulam Rasool Sahi and PP-51 Azad Ali Tabbasum.

The Safdar Bajwa group which was supporting the PTI exchanged words with the Tatla group but locals intervened into the issue and pacified both sides.

Later, the Tatla group called the members of the Bajwa group, including Safdar Bajwa, Ghulam Murtaza, Ali Raza and Ihtesham at their outhouse to settle the issue. During the talks, the armed people of the Bajwa group opened indiscriminate fire killing Bajwa, Mustafa and Raza on the spot.

Ihtesham sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to hospital where his condition was pronounced stable.

Ajmal Cheema told Dawn that the three deceased were his close relatives who were gunned down over the election dispute.

City Police Officer Raja Riffat Mukhtar said both groups had brief fallout some three days ago but the issue was resolved. He said the bodies had been shifted to morgue for autopsy and action would be taken against the accused people after the registration of a case. He said both parties were trying to resolve the issue but the situation turned ugly resulting into the killing of three people.

Tariq Bajwa, who is contesting as PPP ticket for NA-75, said the incident was the result of a dispute over tickets distribution by the PML-N and the PTI. He said he had tried hard to pacify both sides but his efforts proved futile owing to the negligence of the police. He said the incident could have been avoided if police had taken precautionary measures after both groups had exchanged words three days ago.

He claimed that Bajwa group had also gunned down two people of Tatla group. However, the CPO did not confirm this report.

Bajwa said that the killers had celebrated the murders as they danced at the bodies.

Someone must have told Imran that aggression pays in Election campaign, and apparently this flaying of cricket bat against the circus tigers is helping PTI a lot! this morning I saw a dream; it was grainy and hard to grasp as morning dreams are, but I remember either it was Imran or some young boys who were beating a meek looking lion or tiger, who looked terrified and wanted to run and then the "bhosa fillings" of the stuffed animal started to come out...it was hilarious! Lol! ...I am sure they won't turn this into an Advertisement..it was only a dream!

Minorities should vote PTI as the current parties have utterly failed to protect the lives and properties of all Pakistani citizens - especially the minorities.

I like his interviews but as an analyst, not sure how much weight to give his predicitons. I think Cyril at Dawn is probably the most unbiased journalist around right now who is in the field touring all over rural and urban Punjab. His last article seemed to indicate that there is a second wave of 'tsunami' coming and IK may surprise a lot of people. Yeah, I read Cyril's article. A lot of conflicting opinions coming from Pak journalists. Some are perhaps being driven by sentiment rather than reason, such as Hassan Nisar who was predicting a PTI clean sweep because of a gut feeling. Others are quite simply biased or maybe even induced to write PTI off.

As PPers and especially if you're young and active on social media it seems like its 90% PTI, but obviously thats not the ground reality.

Even that looks very unlikely. PPP's entire marketing strategy is naming and shaming PMLN; there was a 1hr+ press conference of R Malik today about Sharif family's corruption and another one apparently tomorrow. I mean thats their entire hand basically given that they are reluctant or unwilling to lead rallies. It would be a loss of face for PMLN to ally with PPP now.

So basically I can't see why PPP or PMLN would agree to an alliance.

100 seats is the magic number IMO. I don't see PPP winning that many, that leaves PML-N and PTI. Lets imagine a scenario that PML-N wins 80 seats and PTI 90 seats. To get to 172 they both will still need alliances and none of the smaller parties seats will be enough to cross the finish line, even if you combine them all together. That means either they form an alliance which seems next to impossible right now or both sit in opposition or one of them make alliance with PPP. Bottom line unless PML-N and PTI agree to form an alliance, every other scenario will have to include PPP in the coalition govt. Unless Ofcourse the tsunami materializes in person and PTI get to 120 + seats.

PAKISTAN Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has quite wisely attracted a section of Shia vote bank which has traditionally been voting for PPP and Tehreek-e-Jafferia Pakistan in past elections.

Traditionally, PPP has been the choice of most of the voters of the Shia community in most of the general elections since 1988 due to its moderate stance. However, this vote bank which stands around 10 to 15% in almost every constituency of Punjab, KPK and even more in most of the districts falling in Sindh may show its support towards Imran on May 11, and there are multiple reasons for this.

PPP, along with other factors which has annoyed its voters due to the issues related with deliverance also seems to be on the losing side when it comes to the general voters belonging to Shia community who remained quite perturbed over the constant target killings of their brethren in Pakistan.

The sheer inability of the PPP government to protect Shia population, the target killing of members of Hazara community in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan as well as the tragedies like Abbas Town, Karachi have not only added to the resentment among voters but also brought them closer to Imran for a visible shift in its stance towards moderate and extremist forces.

PML-N, another mainstream party, somehow, doesn’t seem as the best of choices in general voters belonging to Shia community due to its alignment with banned outfits and most of them are considering Imran as a better option to vote.

This is noteworthy that even after the trend-setting rally of October 30, 2011 when Imran emerged as a genuine challenge to the mainstream parties, he remained under fire from moderate sides for his inclination towards Difa-e-Pakistan Council or for attending public meetings which were also attended by pro-Taliban elements. However, he showed a clear cut change in his political strategy and came up as a different politician in the later days which has not only restored PTI’s popularity graph but also attracted voters which traditionally remained inclined towards other parties. Imran Khan, quite intelligently removed the tag of being a pro-extremist forces as he was the first mainstream leader to visit Quetta and attend the sit-in staged by the bereaved families of the suicide attack victims of Hazara community.

Besides, he also condemned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi for carrying out attacks on Shia community besides demanding justice for the victims.

Very recently in Lahore, the women members of his family launched the party’s election campaign after visiting the shrine of Bibi Pak Daaman.

Recently, an SMS campaign against PML-N’s alignment with a banned organisation is also underway which reflects resentment of Shia voters against the party.

aaj hi looney maang raha tha karachi keh kisi halkay ka...

Spread the message, make people aware that we all need to be united for a Naya Pakistan starting from Karachi.

what will make or break the whole thing is their final round/shot... the rally kam jalsa from lhr on GT road to Pindi to Isl with 12-13 stoppages...

this will tell you if there will be a clean sweep or not, if masses show up for the rally and then each jalsa point, then you will know for sure, that tsunami aaye gi nahin, aa gai hai...

at the same time, if that does happen, i wont be surprised if nalayk league or any other opposition tries to get violence/blasts etc to deter the elections...

hard to 'build a nation' when you are not willing to work with any other party or group of people.

Hard to work with people who operate with our typical old mentality

- Different law for ruling elite and normal awaam (e.g call a judge and ask him for favourable decision but poors can wait for decades to get justice)

- Leaders can invest billions overseas and ask others to invest in Pakistan

- Leaders can enjoy protocol of 1500 guards when law and order in rest of country is worst ever

- Favouritism/Nepotism (Appoint your favourite teachers, policemen, patwaris, officers etc and award construction contracts to closed ones i.e. Nawazish)

List can go on but if you think like a patriotic Pakistani, our problems will never be resolved if we continue to rule with same mentality

Noora League has become a full fledged political wing of the murderous terrorist outfit.

ISLAMABAD: Besides fielding the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi-linked Chaudhry Abid Raza from NA-107 (Gujrat), the PML-N has awarded another party ticket to Sardar Ebaad Dogar from NA-178 (Muzaffargarh) despite his being an ardent disciple of the Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) who had announced Rs20 million-bounty to assassinate Salman Taseer for siding with an alleged blasphemy accused, Aasia Bibi.

PPP loses, PTI gains Shia votes

Nawaz does not rule out coalition with PPP

LAHORE: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif does not totally rule out a coalition with the PPP after the elections but deferred the repeated questions from Karan Thapar of CNN-India in a detailed interview spread over two sessions.

Karan asked Nawaz: “The polls clearly suggest yours will be the single biggest party, but the polls are also suggesting you won’t have a majority on your own and you would have to form a coalition. Would you consider looking to the PPP for support because they already have a majority in the Senate?

Nawaz Sharif: Well, I think this country needs a strong government; this country doesn’t need a split mandate. Split mandate will not solve the problems of this country, as I just now mentioned that the problems are huge and the challenges are huge. So we need a strong government. But I don’t rule out the possibility of a coalition.

Karan: With the PPP?

Nawaz Sharif: No, no I am just... I am answering your question. I feel that let everybody go to the elections, then come back in parliament, we will see what the position is in parliament and how the parties have, you see, lined up and then we will see if we can really—if we are not in majority, of course, we have an agenda. And those people who would share our vision, who will be prepared to share our vision, I think there is no harm that we all sit down together because as I said it’s not any personal battle that I am fighting.

Karan: It is Pakistan...

Nawaz Sharif: It is Pakistan’s battle that I am fighting. To pull the country out of the mess that it is in, so, therefore, I think everybody who would share that vision will have to sit down together across the table to see that we can jointly bring the country out of difficulties it is facing.

Karan: Let me put it like this: In 2008 after the last elections, you briefly formed a coalition with the PPP. This time around to encourage the PPP to support you, would you consider something like offering Asif Zardari a second term as president because that post now, the presidency, as you know, is a ceremonial post, it doesn’t carry any power that it did previously.

Nawaz Sharif: These are the answers which could be given after the elections; I cannot really answer these questions at this stage. This is, I think, very premature stage to answer these questions, but I would, certainly if you come back to Pakistan after the elections, I will be very happy to answer these questions.

Exclusive interview with Noam Chomsky on Pakistan elections

In the coming elections, all indications are that a coalition government will be formed. The party of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is leading the polls with Imran Khan’s (relatively) newly-emerged party not far behind. Do you think an impending coalition government will be sufficiently equipped to handle the myriad problems facing the country that you have just pointed out, such as civil-military imbalance, drone attacks, extremist violence etc.

NC: Well, we have a record for Nawaz Sharif but not the others. And judging by the record, it’s pretty hard to be optimistic. His [Sharif's] previous governments were very corrupt and regressive in the policies pursued. But the very fact that there is popular participation can have impact. That’s what leads to change, as it has just recently in North Africa (in Tunisia and Egypt). As far as change goes, significant change does not come from above, it comes through popular activism.

Change of heart: Disgruntled ANP leader backs PTI candidates

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party’s (ANP) disgruntled leader and former lawmaker Arbab Zahir has announced his support for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidates contesting elections from NA-4 and PK-10, said a statement issued by the PTI’s media cell on Monday.
Zahir, who has been elected twice from NA-4 on an ANP platform, has considerable influence in the constituency which constitutes Peshawar’s rural areas.
“The support of a seasoned ANP leader for PTI candidates has strengthened the party’s position in the area,” said PTI’s former provincial information secretary Shah Farman. “The PTI will emerge as the largest political force in the country after May 11 elections,” added Farman who is contesting from PK-10.

http://pullquotesandexcerpts.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/shah-farman.jpg?w=625

When contacted, ANP office bearers said they have asked the party’s leadership to take disciplinary action against Zahir for betraying the party at such a crucial time. “He has violated the party’s discipline by lending support to Gulzar Khan (PTI’s candidate for NA-4) and action must be taken against him,” said the ANP president in PK-11, Noor Rehman.
Rehman alleged Zahir was supporting Gulzar, a former bureaucrat, due to their friendship.
Unlike the urban areas of Peshawar, PTI is less popular in the rural areas. However, with Rehman’s support and influence, the party can tap into ANP’s vote bank in
the region.

CricInfo article on Nawaz Shariff as "Cricket Tragics"

Nawaz Sharif (Pakistan)
While Imran Khan is Pakistan most famous cricketer-turned-politician, Sharif, the man ousted as prime minister in a coup led by General Pervez Musharraf in October 1999, also has a cricketing background, albeit not in the same league. In 1973-74 Sharif made his only first-class appearance for Railways, making a duck in his only innings.

Some people on FB think they are overly clever, and feel that IK will not bring any change. Its the same old wine in a new bottle according to them. IK followers are blind. He doesn't have any manifesto.

My question to them is if not IK then who?

Nawaz Shareef? After all that he has done over the years is fill up his own accounts.

PPP? Yet again after their disastrous tenure?

Who else could you vote? I mean what are your options? Such people are mentally insecure and love to stand away from the crowd, they pride themselves on being looked at some highly intellectual figure who has a knowledgeable stronghold on politics, they want to look oh so unique in the fact that they are not being swayed with the rest of the awaam.

Rant Over!

Too many people getting on the lifter. The last guard lost his balance and pulled 3 other people with him. Been taken to skmh according to abdul qadir.
