So far Australia are undefeated in the u19 world cup whilst Pakistan have gotten beat by Bangladesh. On the other hand in the last meeting between these two teams during the warmup for the u19 WC, Pakistan won the match by 3 wickets with over 6 overs to spare.

Just like in 2004, Pakistan's strength lies in our bowling attack and whilst spin was the main flavour of the 2004 attack, this new team are relying on their seamers.

After the India vs England semi-final there was a preview of the second semi-final and an English guy who is following the tournament was aksed what each teams strengths were. The guy replied that the Pakistan opening attack of Jamshed Ahmed and Anwar Ali were the best in the tournament sharing 10 wickets a piece in the last 4 games. Then he added that the first change seamer Akhtar Ayub who has 7 wickets isnt one to be written off either.

Overall he said that if the Pakistan batting didnt collpase as they (like any Pakistani team he said) are prone to do then the bowling attack wont be posed any problems by the Australians!

This match will be shown on Sky Sports 1 at 8:15am on Friday morning!! If you can watch it then dont miss it!!

Australia have been a dominant force in this tournament, from the first game where they thrashed South Africa to the quarter-final obliteration of Sri Lanka. They struggled against West Indies but still had the inner belief to seal the game at the end. The World Cup final has appeared to be their destiny from the off - but one bad day at the office and it will all be over, and in Pakistan they face a team with the capabilities to bring their excellent progress to a shuddering halt.

It is one of the most used phrases in cricket, but it really does depend which Pakistan turns up. If it is the slap-happy and wasteful side that lost to Bangladesh, Australia will breeze through. If, however, it is the cut-throat and focused team that crushed New Zealand and eased past Zimbabwe then Australia are in for a surprise.

Pakistan possesses a high quality new-ball attack, something Australia have not faced in the tournament. Jamshed Ahmed and Anwar Ali are capable of cutting swathes through any batting line-up. They generate impressive pace and bring that typical Pakistani attribute of late swing into the equation. Ali ripped through New Zealand with 5 for 36 and the supporting cast is not short on talent either.

While Pakistan's bowlers might provide a surprise to their opposition, Australia have their own firepower: a powerful batting line-up. Tom Cooper and Usman Khawaja have not clicked as a pair, but one has invariably stood tall at vital times. Cooper is the perfect foil for the stroke-makers in the middle order, of which Moises Henriques and Aaron Finch have shown their ability to clear the ropes with ease. They will respect the Pakistan bowlers, but in no way will they fear them.

Henriques also forms the spearhead of a powerful attack. The Australians' great attributes is their strength in depth: there is no let-up. Four of the bowlers are over six feet tall, meaning they can extract awkward life from even the most docile pitches. Adam Ritchard bowled his ten overs straight in the quarter-final, for just 20 runs, and Simon Keen has repeatedly followed the tight new-ball spells and taken advantage of shackled batsmen who need to attack.

It is this that puts Australia's noses in front heading into the match. Pakistan's batting still has question marks over it, partly because it wasn't tested against New Zealand (knocking off 78 in nine overs) and then took 48 overs to score 182 against Zimbabwe. Taking their time to score the runs was commendable, and does show a side that adapts, but the nagging feeling is that, under sustained pressure, the recklessness of the Bangladesh performance could resurface.

The fielding, too, will be a vital factor. As with any Australian side the U-19s pride themselves on winning matches in the field with diving saves and smart catches. Pakistan have a tendency to be lazy and they have already dropped more than their fair share of chances. A place in the World Cup final could rest on something as small as a brilliant stop or match-turning catch.

The winners also know that they face a team, India, right at the top of their game after demolishing England for 58 on Wednesday. Whether it is Australia or Pakistan, the final is a mouth-watering prospect.

Australia (probable) Usman Khawaja, Tom Cooper, Moises Henriques (capt), Tom Stray, Aaron Finch, David Warner, Matthew Wade (wk), Simon Keen, Ben Cutting, Jack McNamara, Adam Ritchard. Supersub Jon Holland

Pakistan (probable) Nasir Jamshed, Ali Khan, Mohammad Ibrahim, Rameez Raja, Ali Asad, Riaz Kail, Sarfraz Ahmed (capt & wk), Imad Wasim, Jamshed Ahmed, Anwar Ali, Akhtar Ayub. Supersub Mohammad Laeeq

It should aslo be interesting to see Nasir Jamshed batting, this is what Aaqib had to say about Nasir...

Nasir Jamshed - Let me tell you of this amazing guy. Nasir Jamshed from Lahore: He is about 18, a left-hander…an attacking yet technically composed batsman. An exceptional talent. He's a future "international star". I'll say he needs 4 more years to get polished before he storms onto the international scene. A tremendous prospect!

PakPassion.Net: So who are the most technically composed and correct batsman at this level…i.e. out of the ones NOT in the current squad?
Aaqib Javed: Definitely Hasan Raza and Nasir Jamshed.

...Aaqib thinks very highly of Nasir Jamshed, so far he hasnt done anything to justify this confidence but will he step up on the big stage??

Even Inzi is stuck in the crease early on in his innings. Lets judge Raza once he gets going, you cant play someone like Warne with the authority that Raza played him with without good footwork!

Thats sound very promising, impressive pace with late swing and quality new ball bowling is a typical Pakistani trait!!

Your first basic aim in batting when you walk out is to deny a wicket to the opposition and that does not come without proper feet movement.
Raza has to move his feet right from the start of the innings.

Now I might be sounding a little harsh ,but Pakistan have to start paying importance to feet movement.
Bob Woolmer has to work on it.

in 2004 we had a quality spin attack, in 2006 we appear to have a quality seam attack!

Maybe in 10 years time the Pakistani attack may comprise of Anwar Ali, Jamshed Ahmed, Mansoor Amjad and Tariq Mahmood!!

The future looks bright the future looks green :D

I think its more a case of lack of concentration early on.

If you watch the Indian batsmen when they first come in, they concentrate on the bowler and the close in fielders. They are just looking to survive and if in the process a few boundaries come along then they will accept them.

Pakistani batsmen have a different approach, as soon as they arrive they twist their necks around 360 degrees after every delivery looking for gaps to smash the ball into! They premeditate far too much and dont let the batting flow naturally, thats part of the reason why we collapse because so many of our batsmen are prone to getting out early!

I would have expected at least one of the spinners to have broken into the pak team (2 years since last U19 WC) but we have not heard much about them coming into the side, only about Tariq Mahmood's dodgy action.

Tariq Mahmood is an enigma, he seems to have disappeared.

Mansoor Amjad was on the verge but Imran Tahir seems to have edged past him due to Mansoor's poor form in recent times.

If we didnt have Afridi to bowl leg spin in ODI's and Kaneria to bowl it in tests then Mansoor or Tahir would have broken into the first team by now.

If either of those two were English, Saffie or Windian then they would already be playing international cricket!

It's a shame about Tariq Mahmood because I think that as an off-spinning all-rounder he would have been a perfect addition to both the ODi and test teams!

How can they not concentrate Merc. They need a sports phsychologist then. Accept that they are mentally not strong and they need one sports phsychologist. And they need to be ruthless. Win the toss and give advantage to opposition. I wonder if it was Woolmers idea there.

He was impressive in the last World Cup

He's still in contention, Aaqib mentioned him in his interview with Farhad...

Imran Ali Pasha is another 85+ mph bowler who is making rapid strides too

I could tell from watching him bowling in the u19 world cup that he was pacy and Aaqib has confirmed that he bowls 85mph+

I believe he's currently playing for Sialkot. Here are a couple of pics of him from the 20/20 tournament...

http://www.cricketarchive.com/pictures/2/2259.jpg

http://www.cricketarchive.com/pictures/2/2880.jpg

His stats so far are...

13 Ms -- 20 wkts @ 25.80 avg -- 28.0 SR -- 5.5 Eco -- 1.5 WPM ----> Limited Overs
09 Ms -- 27 wkts @ 31.85 avg -- 48.9 SR -- 3.9 Eco -- 3.0 WPM ----> First Class

...he looked a very good prospect in 2004 and his figures in the domestic arent bad considering Pakistani pitches.

However I think he may have been pushed out of contention by the likes of Asif, Gul, Arafat, Irshad, Ali and especially Najaf Shah whom I see as being the next major inclusion into our pace ranks!!

The Indian U-19 team seems to be the best in terms of batting. If Pak beats Australia then it will lose to India in the finals. Isn't it better if it loses to Australia so that it can avoid getting thrashed by India in the finals? :)

Good to see some common sense prevail in the youngsters. If the boundaries are not there, take the singles and rotate strike. Nothing else pisses off the bowler more than that as he has to readjust field for the other batsmen, even amend line or length if the player is a lefty. Something Buttt/Kami did not do yesterday.

it depends where it hits on the gloves, the ball to Riaz went under his hand and gloves so if it had hit it would have deviated down,

Sachin was hit high up on his glove and on his finger, it was the side of the ball which kissed his glove and therefore it could only deviate to his left and up

I think Jamshed Ahmed and Anwar Ali are good bowlers, Akhtar Ayub is more effective in longer version of the game ( according to stats, haven't seen any of them).

Hopefully we will get detailed feedback from someone watching, don't think there is any SOLID batsman (apart from Nasir Jamshed maybe). There are no good spinners either, hopefully Akhtar Ayub, Jamshed and Anwar Ali turn out to be good.

I don't know why the captain Sarfraz is batting at 7-8, he has been so consistent in domestics limited overs as well as 3 day matches.
why dont you read this thread frm the start where the match actually started......and the commentery began? you will surely find some answers!

bouncerrrrrrr hitsss ali on his helmet nasty

175 for 5........37 overs

Who was calling him Shahid Afridi???? :13: Even after 10 years in Int cricket, Afridi would have GOEN by now(had he played in U19).

Ali Asad is Dravid or Hinds?????

I don't know what Pak management is doing with batting order, Ali Asad played well as an opener and number batsman in domestic.
Riaz Kail is playing inning of his life. Hasn't done too much with batting in domestic.
