Shoaib Akhtar insists he is not to blame for Pakistan's poor performances in the recent Test series in Australia.
Pakistan were beaten in all three Tests and Shoaib, who took 11 wickets, has been criticised for his displays.
However, he played in the final Test in Sydney despite struggling with a hamstring injury and says he was disappointed with his fitness but not his form.
"I think the bowling did well in the first two Tests," said Shoaib. "But I lacked support from the other end. I am not solely responsible for the poor performances since cricket is a team game."
The 29-year-old faced a medical inquiry by the Pakistan Cricket Board last year after Pakistan were beaten by India, when he was accused of faking injury in the third Test in Rawalpindi.
He was cleared on that occasion, but fears being made a scapegoat again after failing to take a wicket in Sydney, where he was able to bowl only 15 overs.
"I played in Sydney half fit because the team needed me," he said. "But tell me which fast bowler has not gone through injury problems in the past even the great ones.
"I think I bowled well in the first two Tests. The bowling didn't let the team down. Twice in the series we had them on the ropes. But the batting didn't come off."

He just incriminates himself for no reason - he should just ignore the press - they are dying for him to spill the beans on someone, possibly Inzi...He doesnt have to defend himself to the press, the "hard talk" is meant for that!

As big as a critic I am of Akther, this time arround he has spoken the truth in parts. The batting let us down in parts but Akther should give more credit to Kaneria who apart from him was only other threating and work like bowler as far as bowling is concerned. He has some truth in his statements but he should not be making these kind of statements in the press.

Amjid I totally agree with you that teams win matches. Everybody should be banned from talking to the press apart from the manager, the captian, and the coach. Rest should have no permission whatsoever unless its totally cricket related. It should be reviewed first with the team management and only that should be spoken. Anything more or less and they should be seriously fined.

Well Well Mr.Shoaib wake up and smell the coffee. People are not going to spare you if you are injured instead of resting you are off partying in night clubs.

Right, Amjid - this only highlights the inherent disunity and discord among the Pakistan Team, and the pathetic lack of communication between the Managment and the players

at the moment he should just stay quiet..and totally out of the spotlight..so that the media forgets him and concentrates on everyone in Aus rite..
alongside this..he should heal himself up fully..
and concentrate really hard in the nets..
maybe be more ingenious, thinking how mature he is getting in terms of bowling..
then he can go to india and start us off with a bang

If your skipper has a record of trying to divert attention and pointing fingers at others, it's natural for some players to try to pre-empt that and put things on record. Inzamam cannot be trusted after what he did in the aftermath of SA ODI and India defeats.
But, skipper this time round made a solitary run in the Test Series and will have to break all his past records in making scapegoats to find someone other than him to blame most for the defeats. He should realise the buck stops with him.

Farhad bhai,
There is no such concept as the 'buck' in Pakistan Cricket - the Captain, Coach and Management are not to blame - it is the injuries & debutants that are the real problems
