Some of you may not agree with this but it would have been a gesture of good will for players to play with black armbands to show solidarity with one of their own, YK. ( or were they, I couldnt make out ).

I am sure they have expressed their sympathy to YK in person. Black arm bands and minute silences are superficial gestures.....

I understand that lefthook786 and in Islam we are against such gestures as well but just shows team unity to the world and makes a statement like "We all stand together with our colleagues, in the good times and the bad times"

Ok let me try this another way - if a leader of a country dies, we put flags ( including that of Pakistan ) on half mast - that is also a "gesture" - gestures can mean a lot for people - a gesture like this to honor YKs or Ranas fathers ( both players being in the current team ) would have meant a lot.

I am sure some of you have lost dear ones - and you understand the importance of gestures such as a phone call or a letter or an email of condolence etc can mean a lot. The black arm band is a traditional Cricketing gesture to signify mourning or loss - thats all it is.

The Pak team chose not to do it is fine its their choice but I do wonder if any thought was given to it in the first place ? I suppose we will never know...

Black arm bands, half masts flags etc are traditions of non mulsims such as christians. Ok, I am not against the arm bands or half mast flag etc. However, as muslims it would be more better to all have gathered in the team meeting, hotel wherever and done duaa for Youni's dad. No doubt they must have done this anyway and given him support and a shoulder too lean on.

Ok Fessal - I agree - your explanation sounds much better and I will leave it at that - Just hope YK and family are well.

Everything I said about arm bands etc being a non muslim tradition I meant but there is nothing wrong with implementing this and actually wearing the arm bands. To the best of my knowledge Islam doesnt prohibt u to traditions and things of other cultures as long as they dont clash with Islam.

With Rana's father also passing away and Pak in the past wearing arm bands for other occasions I think as well as the duaas and things I said the Pak team should have worn arm bands after all. The reason I say that is I am quite appalled how Aussies, Windies and officials of theses countires did not once offer condolences. They should have as a mark of respect as Rana and Younis they were currently playing with in a series. They should have heart and had it been similar on there side the Pak team would have worn black arm bands etc as well as there team. Pak have in the past worn them when some old player of another country died and they were playing a match with the relevant country.

So I change my mind and think MIG is right after all. Reason being is that the arm bands and half mast flags is a way of showing respect and awarness to the world about togetherness, humanity etc of players. As long as it dosent clash with Islam and all the things Islam says do when someone passes away are also carried out..eg duaa for the dceased and support for the ones left behind.
