One place that i remember because it was so disappointing was Paris. Incredibly dull city, with the only limelight of the journey seeing a Ferrari Enzo. Now that was special.

Rome, Italy was certainly an interesting place to visit....The water did taste a little weird....The best part was visiting the Coliseum and seeing the whole structure albeit in ruins but still looked colossal and the scale was overwhelming...

Chateau de Versailles is gd tho. it's haunted n u have a very creepy feeling if u are left alone in one of the halls. i experienced it too :(

No unfortuently did get to visit all the intimate sites of Rome because only had 2 days lay over when going from London, UK to Dubai via Rome...

I can understand what you mean by 'sadness' of Rome...It could be the type of the classical architecture which is starting to deteriorate due to the pollution....I did like the cobblestones and how the ambience of the street came alive....

i find travelling to places for sight-seeing incredibly dull, to be very honest. the only countries that i have travelled for sight-seeing are:

- Pakistan: I've been to the Northern areas a couple of times like Sawat, Naran, Kaghan and a others whose names I don't even remember now (once with family, once with the boy scouts of my school in Karachi...both times were a blast). I have seen a bit of Punjab as well, some rural areas (Pakpattan) and some cities (Lahore, Pindi/Isloo, Abbotabad, Murree). Been around Karachi a LOT, pretty much seen everything you can ever want to see there.

Canada - been to many places here...Niagara Falls (I thought it was cool the first time I saw it, but after that it got really boring), Awenda Provincial Park (brilliant camping trip with friends) located near Barrie, a few other far-away parks (for canoeing/picnicing/bbq/cricket), Montreal (dull), Ottawa (even more dull)...inshAllah me and my friends are plannign on going camping this summer to Killarney Provincial Park (near Sudbury), should be a blast :D

US - I've been to Detroit (not bad, but not that good either) and Atlanta (ugly city to be honest) only...would like to visit the big cities at least once (NY, Chicago, LA, Seattle), but I don't see that happening in the near future. Some time back, me and my friends were planning a trip to the US but then 9/11 happend and we decided it was better if we stayed in Canada...hahah :D

Would love to go to the afore-mentioned US cities, Makkah/Medina, maybe UK and/or Europe if time permits...but that's pretty much it, I honestly don't feel like travelling around the world too much.

cos when u sit in an aeroplane for 7-8 hours - u've no idea of the land u've flown over

a road trip like this would probably take 3 months - cos i would wanna stop off at various places on the way

SO...ANYONE UP FOR IT???????????????

Houston/Chicago: tonnes of desis... in chicago Devon was amazing looked like a part of Karachi... paan ki peekain, desis all around not a **** in sight, urdu signs everywhere... Samah the hooka bar in Chicago

now that is something! tell us abt ur experiences esp abt the 2nd trip.

My father started volunteering for the mosque as a driver to deliver food, medical supplies and clothing in convoys to various refugee camps in Bosnia during the war in the mid 90's...

He finally made a total of 24 trips over 2 years with different organisations, I was fortunate enough to go with him on one of the trips when i was 15...as there was a mini sceasefire at the time..

we stayed in a city called Split just outside the Bosnia/croatia border, everyday for 1 week we drove into Bosnian territory to a town called Mostar where my father was involved in setting up a mobile hospital which was donated by the south african government.. Mostar was a typical balkan town where Muslims & Christians lived happly until the war kicked in... a bridge that link East & West Mostar togther was blown up so that the 2 groups would not wipe each other out...

Everywhere i went, I saw broken bulidings and houses.... a lot of houses had graves in front of them... however the people of the city were very friendly and had seemed not to lose hope...

I was too young to realise exactly how much blood and tears had stained the roads & footpaths where i walked... It was a few years later that i learned the true extent of what these people went through...

Highlights of this trip...

Reading Fridays prays in a crowded East Mostar mosque amongst people who had all lost loved ones to the war...

Playing football with real mujahideen... these guys were real diamonds who broke rocks in the surrounding mountains to keep fit... I don't know if they survived the rest of the war... May Allah grant them heaven...

I've been to many countries ....but one that I probably can never forget is Iraq, where I went 8 yrs back and below is the reason why:

Here I arrive at my hotel around 7 pm, take a bath, change clothes, grab a small packet of biscuit (worth Rs. 8 in Pak, $1 in US, 2 dirham in UAE) and im out of my room, walking through streets of Iraq..... where I see bunch of kids (7-12 yrs old) from all directions coming towards me. Nervous I am (14 myself then), but I keep walking calmly. All of them gather around me and start asking me for something. When I listen to them carefully, I figure its that pack of biscuit in my hand that they want. Graudalling, their "asking" changes into "requesting" ..... "requesting" changes into "begging" ..... "begging" changes into "crying" .... "crying" eventually turns into "bidding". Bidding? Yes bidding. They start offering me whatever they could. One kid, who is selling sijdigah (25 dinar a piece), offers me all (6) of them for a single pack of biscuit. Other kid presents this new suit in his hand sewed by his mother. There is hue and cry everywhere. There is nothing much I can do .......

Ah, its easy to read in a newspaper column, but impossible to forget when u see it live. Still got those sad, dejected, gloomy faces, revolving in front of my eyes. The imposed embargo had deprived them of necessities of life, like medicine & bread. Tylenol in US and Panadol in middle-east & Pak easily available over the counter ... In Iraq? forget it! Samoli (some sorta Arabic bread) was scarce to find and if u do find it somehow, it costed 50 Dinar apiece & tasted nothing like bread. Luckily, we had bought enough from Jordan to last us for a month (quite surprisingly, Jordan, the neighboring country, sold the cheapest bread ... 6-7 packets for few cents). You cud see bombarded roads and bridges wherever you went. While poverty and destruction was evident in every part of the country, Saddam built huge palaces in Baghdad. One in every three to four men had uniform on. Here in US u r "recruited" to join the army, on the other hand they were "forced" to be part of the army in Iraq.

Anyways, despite all the hurdles, I wud still love to visit that country again.

P.S., the above conditions were common to all sects, races & genders in Iraq.

Anyways, despite all the hurdles, I wud still love to visit that country again.

P.S., the above conditions were common to all sects, races & genders in Iraq.

i remember there was an article once where a British journalist visited a dying child in a hospital in Iraq. The child was asked for his one final wish which would be granted by the journalist. His heartbreaking reply was for one single egg. He had never tasted egg before in his life.

Literally, I don't even know how they survive, specially after this recent series of attacks on them. Already they were short on food and other supplies. But then again, as we learnt from Prophet Sulamain (AS)'s story:

'Jo peda kerta hai, phir zinda rakhne ka saman bhi wahi kerta hai'.

HE IS "Rubb" indeed !

I think it goes through a few countries like Germany, Hungary Austria, Romania etc - it goes into the Black Sea iirc

It goes through Budapest so perhaps that would be a good place to go

heres something that stood out:

Dubai: i was stunned to see expensive cars being used as regular taxis (eg. Merc S500, BMW 745 etc)... as soon as i got out of the airport it felt like a heater was blowing right in my face

Houston/Chicago: tonnes of desis... in chicago Devon was amazing looked like a part of Karachi... paan ki peekain, desis all around not a **** in sight, urdu signs everywhere... Samah the hooka bar in Chicago

Thats how it feels when u get off the plane to pakistan

Yeah girl, it's ALL ABOUT Travelling baby!
I went to Havana/Cuba 3 times last year...Amazing experience and had one REALLY bad one but I'm not at liberty to discuss it ;)...All I can say is thank god for the Canadian Embassy!
Went to Dubai 2 years as my bro lives there and will visit him again this December.
Will also to Hajj (Insha-Allah) and visit my 2 khalas in Judah and Ubhah/Saudi Arabia.
May go to take a trip to India and Pakistan and the way back.
No offence, but I went to England about in the mid 90's and didn't like it all.
Been all over the U.S. but I don't count that as travelling. Just came back from Chicago last week. Usmaniya restaurant on devon...WOW! Best Butter Chicken and Nahari!

Insha-Allah, I'll be in Sao Paulo/Brazil near end of May for a job interview. If only they spoke Spanish but that means I have to brush up on my Portugese.

Next year, in March I may be in Jamiaca for the cricket series...always wanted to go to Jamaica.

Travelling is the ****!
