Yasir Hameed to seek advice from Sachin Tendulkar

Pakistan’s fluent stroke player Yasir Hameed wants to get more advice from Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar in order to cement his place in the Pakistan playing eleven.

"I spoke to him last year when we were in Holland and he gave me some good advice. I am keen to talk to him again sometime during the second Test," Yasir said on Tuesday although he appears likely to get another miss for the Kolkata match.

"It is disappointing not to be in the playing eleven. But I only blame myself for not establishing myself when I got the chance. I am working hard on my batting and hopefully this time when I get a chance I am going to ensure I stay around for a while," he emphasised.

Yasir was told by Tendulkar in Holland that he was doing everything right in his batting but needed to be more selective in his shot-making.

"He told me that I wasn’t doing too many things wrong. It is just that I needed to curb my impetuosity and not always look to hit boundaries.

"He also advised me not to lose heart and play my natural game and not to get too defensive all of a sudden. He said I just needed to be more selective in picking balls to be hit," Yasir recalled.

Yasir’s name has been bandied around for making the playing eleven in Kolkata but the young opener himself said he was not sure this would happen.

"It all depends on what plans the captain and coach have for this match. I have been practising a lot lately in the nets and I am feeling good about my batting," said Yasir, only the second player in cricket history after West Indian Lawrence Rowe to score twin hundreds in his debut Test.

He said he had not got a chance to speak to Tendulkar in the first Test in Mohali but would get around to meeting him for a chat in Kolkata.

Yasir who is touring India for the first time said he had been warned of the crowd pressure while playing in India by some former Test players before coming to India.

"But I had no idea it would be like it was in Mohali. And if the stadium is full at the Eden Gardens I can only imagine what the atmosphere is like here," he added.

Yasir insisted that the tour of Australia had done him a world of good and he had learnt a lot while playing in the final Test in Sydney where he scored two fifties.

He is the only solid batsman we have right now and if he can maintain fitness and form he should carry on for long as he can and break some records.

On the question why is Taufeeq and Butt given a chance ahead of Yasir?

Its a mistake by Bob/Inzi... you do NOT drop a player who scored 50's against the best attack in the world... not playing Yasir in the VB series and playing pathetic players like Azhar and Hafeez (at one down!! ) just to justify we needed a 6th bowler was nothing more than a glaring mistake...

If you drop a guy who is just coming back to form... then you are bound to mess him up in the mind and confidence...

Now they are giving Taufeeq a chance just to be fair... The guy has high scores of 44 and 34 in his last 11 test innings !!!!

Bob and Inzi will soon have no option but to play Yasir... and then it is upto him to take the chance that should have been all along his for the taking after the Australian test series.

Malik's spot in the Tests was at #6 which is now claimed by Kamal... so he has to wait. He never was a candidate for the #3 slot in tests. For ODI's he should be the first choice at #3 ahead of Younus.

The problem is, all the batsmen we have are "adhey pehelwan"


They are inconsistent and blow hot n cold all the time.

We know Inzi, Youhana and Younis Khan are not going anywhere be it tests or onedayers. Then in onedayers we have Shoaib Malik and in tests we have Asim Kamal. So that accounts for 4 batting positions in the test and one day team. Now lets look at the opening slots, WE HAVE TRIED
Butt
Umar
Hamid
Farhat
Afridi
even Malik
Kamal

And none of these players have cemented their position as opener (for which I am not blaming them either, they are only partially responsible) so if this happens you are bound to have confusion. With so many different players and combinations and the fact that coach and captain try to make sure they have backup bowling resources available as well,selection becomes a hassle. Throw talented all rounders such as Razzaq in the mix and now you have got a huge mess with several bits and pieces cricketers and very young and raw batsmen.

Quite frankly, I do not blame the coach or captain because the same story has been going on with them as well. We change coaches, captains, openers in our team more often than George Dubya uses the term Weapons of Mass Destruction in his speeches.

O what has woolmer done dat has made him a class coach cmon tell me half the players in this team is because of javed. Some of the players have just improved and now he gets all the credit for it the ony two things he has done in my eyes is bringing back afridi and helping razzaqs bowling thats all.
