No point in changing if you dont have suitable replacements. The Pak top order has been a joke for a long time no. No two matches have the same top 3. Its a non stop circus at the top. Saeed would have still done much better than these guys, even if he were in decline. Just like Sachin may be in decline, but he is still better than any potential replacement.
Same applies for Waqar too, though to a lesser extent
What do you say?

Saeed leaving was his own personal decision, He could have gone on for much longer... If anyone remembers THAT last match in the WC03 when Pak needed to get over 300 against Zim to stay in the cup ... he was going for it... but it stated to rain.. and that was the last time we would see the legend bat...
Waqar... ended up taking the same wrong turn as Moin & Rashid... , Once your become a captain, your either a Captain or nothing....

I think Saeed was pushed. I could be wrong but I dont think it was his decision.
I believe he would have still done better than what has been happening.

Saeed Anwar made himself available for selection after the WC '03, but his old buddy Aamer Sohail refused to select him. Saeed Anwar eventually retired rather than continue to hope for selection.
In my opinion, he should have been selected. His experience and class was badly needed. Recall that at that time, we had Hafeez as an opener.

Of course, Anwar, Younis & Akram were pushed out too early. I have read their comments afterwards and all had indicated a desire that they would have loved to play more. Akram said that he would have liked to break Dev's wicket record. Anwar scored a century against India in WC03 before the Zimb. match and that is certainly not an indication of a man not in form. Anyway he is still probably better than any of the current crap openers we have (Butt, Hameed, Umar, Afridi, etc.). Same thing goes for Younis. Would you rather have him bowl at Eden Gardens or the likes of Khalil, Razzaq or Sami?

How I miss those days when Anwar used to blast the Indian bowlers all over the ground.

Saeed still wanted to play but wasnt selected and felt unwanted so he retired. He's changed his life for the good and i've heard many of his sermons. He's known as molana saeed anwer now believe it or not. This is a link to one of his sermons http://abuusman03.tripod.com/sermons.htm
Inzi,mushy and malik also do a bayan/sermon.

Not sure if Saeed could have carried on but Waqar should definitely have and he is obviously better than Sami by a long shot, even at this age. I believe he is still fit and good enough to be in the Pakistani team. |-S

Saeed shud prolly have played longer but i think he chose to take the honourable route out rather than hang around like waqar. He could definitely have taught a thing or two to our current bunch of bunnies.
I wish saeed bhai all the best in his new chosen path. Unlike wasim and waqar he is putting alot back into pak cricket by proactively going to the NCA and helping out youngsters there. He is also using is as a tableegh centre.

I dont think so.
Waqar being closer to 36-37 (not 31!!!) just could not compete at that level (my all time Pak bowler btw)
Saeed Anwar had another season in him at the top level and could have given us a series to remember v India last year-but he chose the honourable action: to leave at the top and not be pushed like so many legends before him.
Pak's current fast bowling woes are no doubt as a result of the 2 W's going togather; Saqlain forgeting how to bowl and Mushy enjoying the Eng County circuit/summarising on Sky SPorts too much! (thats a joke btw)!

I was just watching the Chennai match from 99 tour where saqlain was absoloutely mesmeric. Words just cant describe how well he bowled. Not a single batsman could pick him from the hand. The turn the bounce the loop ah what that saqlain could do for us now!!!!!

Saeed is about the same age as INzi so if Inzi can play for a few more yrs why not Anwar
