Post match updates and comments here. :)

Here is the preview to the game, Lara says the game will go ahead.

The weather in these parts initially threatened to ruin parts of the Test match, the first ever at Warner Park; then came the ultimatum from the West Indies Players Association that threatened to ruin the Test match completely. Either rain or a strike may prevent the game from starting tomorrow. The latter looks highly unlikely; about the former, nobody can tell.

As far as Brian Lara was concerned, "a Test match was carded for June 22 and we're preparing ourselves for it". He refused to divulge too many details but pretty much said that the match was on. Was there a sense of uneasiness among the players? "Not really, I think it's been done at the office level," he stated. "I feel the guys are very buoyant and they're looking forward to the Test match. I don't sense anyone agitated by the situation. I'm sure that the board has great respect for their players and show that at some point of time in the near future."

With that out of the way, Lara had to worry about the nature of his squad, one where no specialist spinner featured. Then there was a pitch that might not have much in it for the faster bowlers. Then again, there was a worry over Dwayne Bravo, who missed the practice session today because of viral fever. Suffice to say, he has enough on his plate.

India must be feeling very much at home. The break has refreshed them and all injury concerns, including ones of freakish nature, are out of the way. The transformation of the pitch from a light-green carpet to a brownish mat may tempt them to play two spinners. Harbhajan Singh admitted that his "hands were itching for a bowl" in the final stages of the first two Tests; they might need treatment if he misses out here.

India will do well to heed Lara's thoughts on Harbhajan. "If he'd played in Antigua, on the last day, or even St Lucia, he would definitely have been a handful compared to Sehwag. It's fortunate for us that it didn't happen ... We expected Harbhajan to be playing in the first Test so it will not be a surprise if he comes in tomorrow. We won't be panicking, we've played against him in the past. If he's included we might see a more potent Indian attack, but again it's left to them."

The nature of the track, likely to take turn later on, may prompt West Indies to include Marlon Samuels to complement Chris Gayle in the spin department. The rest may depend on the Bravo situation, one that could have a large bearing on the result of the game. "We seem to be putting ourselves under pressure when India get big totals," said Lara. "But we were able to hold out. You can expect the guys to perform better in this game. Our backs are against the wall and I wouldn't say we got away. I thought we showed a lot of character and if the tables can turn in our favour, things can get beneficial for us."

Teams

India (probable) 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Wasim Jaffer, 3 VVS Laxman, 4 Rahul Dravid (capt), 5 Yuvraj Singh, 6 Mohammad Kaif, 7 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), 8 Irfan Pathan, 9 Anil Kumble, 10 Sreesanth, 11 Munaf Patel.

West Indies (probable) 1 Daren Ganga, 2 Chris Gayle, 3 Ramnaresh Sarwan, 4 Brian Lara, 5 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 6 Marlon Samuels, 7 Dwayne Bravo, 8 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 9 Ian Bradshaw, 10 Corey Collymore, 11 Pedro Collins.

Supposed to be a result pitch...expect India to outplay one of the worlds worst test sides for a 3rd time running and finally get the win they deserve. That they arent at least 1-0 up is a travesty...

The Windies bowling attack looks very poor. It includes Bradshaw, Collins, Colleymore, Bravo, and Gayle/Samuels (probable).

Bradshaw is nowhere near being a Test standard bowler, and Colleymore is injured and not at his best.

I expect Indians to win but would love for Windies to pull of something special here. :)

Lara has got his once-a-series ton already, he isnt who he used to be. As much as I would love Lara to lead Windies to a series victory I can't see it happening. No matter how much Indian fans moan about wanting Ganguly back, they are still the better test team here and for any problems they experience from the swinging ball, the Windies lineup will experience just as many from Patel and Pathan.

It is a pity that Lara is not getting the pitch he wants. He has said it countless times that he wants a bowling paradise b/c the Indian pace attack is very poor but it is a shame that the groundman and the WICB are producing these flat track which take spin on Day 4 and 5!
The grass on this pitch has been cut off according to Cricinfo and the look on Lara's face when he saw the pitch told the story!

Tapping into success? India's coach Greg Chappell tests the pitch ahead of the third Test against West Indies at St Kitts, India in West Indies, June 21, 2006!

Can he do that before the Test match?

inspection of the pitch prior to start of the game is permitted. once the game starts, save for the playing 22, and the umpires, no one is even permitted close to the pitch, let go treasure hunting like chappell is.

Draw the most likely result here. The ICC need to look at it's FTP urgently.

The Indian tour will end in July, and then it's only 2 MONTHS until the Windie domestic season begins again! It's just not cricket.

We have never played cricket so late into the rainy season in SA either, and yet AFTER Australia left, we still had the 3-test series vs New Zealand.

If this continues, we will see a lot more drawn test series.

Windies gonna have to get about 550-600, then attack the tired Indians with the ball. With Samuels in to provide some much needed pace they'll have a good chance of going one up if rain doesn't spoil the party.

Though the way the weather scuppered India in the last test you can't begrudge them some assistance from the elements here this time . Though shouldn't be writing them off too early 207 for 1 could be 350 all out and then who knows.

83.6 Patel to Sarwan, (no ball) FOUR
83.5 Patel to Sarwan, FOUR, yes sir! it's a four! Short and outside the off stump, Sarwan rocks back, cuts it deliberately between the slip and the gully to the vacant thirdman fence! Its raining fours at St Kitts!
83.4 Patel to Sarwan, FOUR, a chinese cut for variation but the result the same, another four! short of length delivery just outside the off stump and Sarwan goes for a cut, gets an inside edge which takes the ball to the fine-leg fence! four in a row! what next?!
83.3 Patel to Sarwan, FOUR, another one! full, just outside the off stump and Sarwan throws the kitchen sink at it, it went in the air, just past the diving Yuvraj Singh, at short cover, to the fence! Sarwan is turning it on here.
83.2 Patel to Sarwan, FOUR, bang! hooked to the boundary! It was a bouncer that didnt climb rapidly, rose chest high and Sarwan hooked it past square-leg!
83.1 Patel to Sarwan, FOUR, fierce thump through covers! It was full and well outside the off stump, Sarwan rocked back and creamed it through extra cover.

Yawn... another dead pitch... another predictable draw... another batsmen's paradise and bowler's graveyard. I think its just a waste of time and good money. They just don't enough armory to get 20 West-indian wickets. Bowling relies heavily on toss, conditions and Kumble.

Update (1530 local time / 1930 GMT) - Weather-wise nothing much has changed since the last update, it is still lashing down like an Afridi innings :))) and the ground is gradually getting converted to a lake and the umpires have decided to call off the day's play! seen enough I guess.

i repeat... lynch the grounds staff for creating a nothing of a pitch. two days into the game and only 5 wickets and thanks to the rain, only 400 odd runs. highly unlikely that a result is possible. and i wont be too surprised if another day is lost due to weather. i think we should be playing test matches in the sahara or under a roofed stadium.

One thing I must say, India's inability to get that batsmen, that is if you can call him a batsmen (Chanderpaul) out just shows how pathetic this bowling attack really is. I mean the guys batting stance looks like a monkey on a leash, it is full of technical flows which should just tickle a bowlers appetite, but for some weird mysterious reason they just cant get him out PATHETIC to say the least....

Great bowling by West Indies. First 2 overs from Jerome Taylor were a delight to watch. The ball which Sehwag thought was gonna bounce and hit him on the pads was an absolute beauty. The whole Indian innings did not produce such bowling in last 2 days which Jerome Taylor displayed in the first 2 overs. Of course not, because if the series is drawn (the least that will happen if WI win) then England vs Pakistan is a contest between the #2 and #3 teams in Test Cricket. Although, even then, if Pakistan gets a good win vs England, and India draw this, and win the next one, then we can jump from #4 to #2!

Lara is too chicken - he will never think of handing India any chance of victory - add to that the fact that most of the lbws in the 1st innings were rather fluky and Lara may well figure that a bird in hand ( ie a drawn series ) is better than 2 "possible" ones in the bush ( test victory !)

Lets face it, WI need to stabilize their test record - a drawn series against one of the better teams on the circuit isnt that bad a thing

All in all - I would be really surprised if Lara decides to declare too early.

I don't think our bowling is good enough to knock over another 8 wickets. Although when India lost in Bangalore they lost against the mighty attack of Sami, Razzaq, Arshad, Danish and Afridi............winning this game is not out of the question but highly unlikely.

Still hilarious though.

Could be another Banglore type collapse from India. Remember they have suffered quite a few 3rd/4th inns collapses over the last year or so namely against Pakistan and England.

But one suspects Windies bolwing is too friendly for that to happen here.

more chance of dravid scoring a 100 of 60 balls. :))

Bishop and Cozier are clueless to what a bleep test is. They say that Bravo and Taylor would get to around level 13/14 when my friend who's 15 can get level 15 :91: .

Borrrrrring. Didn't Lara guarantee that the groundsman would deliver a result pitch? I know India are less exciting than a grazing giraffe at the moment but you cant blame them for playing this way.

These shots from Laxman are so graceful. Boring when he's blocking but beautiful when he's "attacking".

India 204/2

India require another 188 runs off 31 overs, intresting to see if they have a dart at total at some point.
