I have no idea who comes up with these but here are stats that are relevant for tomorrow |-K
1. The Highest ever succesful run chase by any test side was 418-7 by West Indies v Australia at St Johns in 2002/2003.
2. Pakistan's highest succesful run chase was 315-9 v Australia at Karachi in 1994/1995.
3. Pakistan's highest ever fourth innings score, regardless of result, was 336 v Australia at Melbourne in 1989/1990.
4. 400 has only been passed 3 times on the route to victory in a run chase by any test side.
5. The highest total ever conceded in a 4th inns by India for defeat is 342-8 v Australia in Perth 1977/1978.
6. Victory after the other side declared has only happened twice in the last 20 years.
7. The target for Pakistan's win tomorrow has only been beaten 3 times. All were in a losing cause.
8. Pakistan have never reached 400 in any innings at Eden Gardens, out of 11 attempts.
9. The highest ever successful run chase at Eden Gardens is 120-2 by India against South Africa last year.
but as Hash quite rightly pointed out - in Mohali we went from 253/6 to 496 for 9 so 240 odd runs plus India had time to make another 80. We can do this

...but them were the days when old men wore flat caps and test cricket was played at 2 runs per over.
Nowadays...old men still wear flat caps, but the run rates are at 4 per over.
Its a different era yaar!

at mohali, leave alone stats, even we didn't expect a draw.
This pakistani team has the fire power to shatter all records. :-D

In the 2nd test of the last series played between these two teams in India, Pak were chasing 420 to win(422 here). The openers put on 101 then (93 here). Afridi's partner was a left hander then(now as well). Afridi was the first to go (like here) to Kumble (like today). We all know what happened then.....
Kumble took all 10. Pak 207 all out
Lets hope lightning does not strike twice?!

?????
stats or no stats- chasing 320 in 90 overs is very possible- and i dont see us getting bowled out on this dead track.

TaZ- interesting. But important to remember who the umpire was in that game (Jayaprakash)......there were a few howlers.

I wouldnt say its a 'dead track'.
Spinners will have their moments.

Hash - agree. Also the infamous Mr Bucknor was also an umpire!!?

in that match, afridi wasn't out, he was given out...
kumble's wife was umpiring... this time she isn't here with her gracious presence... comfortably seated in the third umpire's seat. :oD

pAKISTAN TEAM OFTEN LOSS A MATCH, RATHER TAHN THE OPPOSITION WINNING THE MATCH.
hISTORICAL ANCIDOTAL EVIDENCE IS MEANINGLESS. iN THE LAST MATCH HOW MANY OF TEH pAK TEAM HAD BEEN PAID OFF IN ADVANCE?????
sENSIBLE BATTING WILL WIN THE DAY T/MORROW. i THINK THE TWO SHOULD BAT THROUGH THE AM SESSION WITHOUT TAKING RISK. kEEP WICKETS IN HAND FOR LATE ATTACK.

evsa- to be honest I'll be happy if we just go at 3 runs per over for the first session. Put on another 90 runs....maybe lose 1 wicket (Taufeek has never once looked comfortable) and go into the paratha house with us, perhaps, 185 or so for 2. That leaves another 237 from 2 sessions with 8 wickets in hand and in the middle session we can start to accelerate. The VITAL VITAL issue is wickets in hand. If we have wickets in hand we have a good chance.

We need to keep the singles going and try not to lose a wicket!
I think RAZZAQ has to be moved up the order and told to play in ODI mode, if he is dismissed then INZI can come after him to make sure there is no collapse and play for the draw. BUT if RAZZAQ can fire then we have a very good chance of winning. a quickfire 60 from RAZZAQ would be superb!, which would allow Inzi,Kamal and Akmal to finish the job inshallah

i THINK YOYO HAS AN IMPORTANT ROLE. hE IS WORLD CLASS AND BATS AT A SPEED OF KNOTS. aFTER THE CURRENT TWO HE WILL BE VITAL.
aGREED THAT rAZAK SHOULD COME EARLY.
iNZI SHOULD BE LEFT TO HIT THE WINING RUNS OR TO DIGIN AND SAVE THE GAME.

"PAKISTAN HAVE NEVER LOST AT EDEN GARDENS "
The only stat that was shattered...
What an inept performance. We cant even blame the bowlers this time.

20th March 2005, 11:27
Id say we blame the captain. He let Dravid and Karhik make easy runs. No pressure was put on them. Look what the Indians did, 4 ppl around the bat all the time when the spinners were on.
TaZ
20th March 2005, 11:35
Agree Faisal.
We really have lost the plot. ONe fantastic fightback in Mohali and Inzy was talking about winning today. We had 9 batsman and could not play out 90 overs

india will have tons of confidence in bangalore which is also kumble and dravid's home...what was the turning point 2day? i think it was yoyo's wicket, after kaif played mind games with him (did u hear what kaif was sayin??) he lost his wicket. tactics were used against pakistan and that is how we lost. will we be able to fight back in bangalore with suck a weak bowling attack?
TaZ

If we had drawn this test, indians would have been under HUGE pressure
