View Full Version : Official Umpires' discussion thread

23rd March 2005, 11:50
From tomorrow we can use this thread to discuss all matters regarding umpires and umpiring decisions.

For starters, which two umpires are standing in the 3rd test?

Bowden and Shapard I think. Shepard should retire he is an old man.

Well expect no favours from Shepard like we received from Bucknor. In fact, dont be surprised if the opposite happens. Bowden is a clown who can do anything

Bowden's class and very dramatic!!

Australian captain Steve Waugh is hugged by umpire Billy Bowden from New Zealand on the final day of the fourth Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

i'm a little teapot....

I think he's fair and waaaay better than shepeard! i agree shepeard's too old now and should retire!

23rd March 2005, 12:57
The Indians don't seem to like Billy too much

Assara K
23rd March 2005, 21:15
wasn't Taufel voted umpire of the year by ICC?

i think it should of been Bowden or Bucknor!!

any bets on who'll make the first bad decision against pakistan....

im going for bowden giving taufeeq/butt lbw wrongly in the 3rd 4th over

or if india bat, sehwag survives a close lbw appeal...but the indian snikometer showing it pitched outside leg or something

alghazzali
23rd March 2005, 21:19
lol, snickometer, thats prob wot the indians use 2 check lbw shout, instead of hawkeye

sajjad
23rd March 2005, 21:22
im telling u every country has its own version.
pakistan has just hired 'chota' for this. every time theres a close lbw shout he will go there with a foot ruler and start drawing a line, with pencil from one stump to the other. it will make it absolutely clear whether the batsmen was out or not

As I said on the commentary thread the good thing about Inzmam's Pakistan side is that they accept decisions quickly. They dot allow it to effect them and lose focus.

Tendulkar has been quite the controversial figure this series!

Daoud
26th March 2005, 12:30
And after the second test, Indian fans had the nerve to say Tendu is among the most unlucky batsmen around. Oh well. Im ESTATIC that he didnt get his 35th century, and I hope he doesnt :))

The_Cricket_Devil
26th March 2005, 12:47
yea lol tendu should be like in his final match out at 99 and cry back to the pavilion as a pakistani crowd laughs at him ah my dreams :D

Assara K

Saj

a lot of pressure on the umpires today when the spinners were in operation and I think most of the time they got it right.

Taufel missed a couple of edges today, but I think Bowden was spot on.

Glad that the errors made by Taufel didn't affect the outocme in the end. For a brief second, it brought back visions from the Windies 2000 tour. But the way some other events had folded - Sehwag's runout, Pathan getting out to a " bat-shoe" dismissal - something suggested a victory in this test was destined for Pakistan.
