Should be a very good contest. Hope to see some future stars playing. Can Jamshed and Ayub and Anwar still play?

I go under the same username....but I don't post on the UK board much. I just go there once in a while to see the casual English point of view on cricket.

Ayub was 19 during the u19 WC and he's now around the 'A team' so he's unlikely to play but if Jamshed, Imad and Anwer are there then it should be a good contest.

This will be an interesting series.

Will the talented legspinner, Piyush Chawla be playing? He looks like a good prospect for the future.

they say yo mahesh can be groomed into an express pace bowler with proper nutrition and coaching... one of the few india has produced since independence from the british raj... he is over 6'4" and about 190lbs and has a very aggressive attitude.

i just hope they dont try to make him a freakin allrounder and turn out another irfan pathan: potent in ODIs, useless tosser in Tests.

i think sunit sharma is a batting prospect for the future. the funny thing is that while india A players often make it big and join the international side; our under 19 and under 15 players seldom transform into successfull test players. infact, when the india won the under 19 world cup in 1996, the only player from that team still a contender in the current international side is mohammed kaif. there was another, reetinder singh sondhi who did have some high points... a few half centuries in odis, a great fielder, almost as good as kaif and yuvraj; and bowled an economical military medium... yet he is struggling to make the punjab team lately.

Apart from Immad Wasim this is a brand new bunch whilst the Indian's are playing their u19 WC team!! I don't get it?

Then again Zaheer Abbas is listed so perhaps they thought it mean u90's team

This is unbelieveable U19 squad, i can hardly see any famous name there, it may not be a bad idea to exclude Akhtar Ayub, Anwar Ali, Jamshed Ahmad, Riaz Kail (all rounder) and Sarfraz Ahmad (captain and keeper batsman of U19). I have no doubt that selectors want to try some new faces as they consider U19 trio good enough to play at highest level but India has called back Piyush Chawla who hasn't been playing U19 for a while and they still have many players from U19 WC team.

On the other side, there is hardly anyone in the new Pak squad who has done anything of note in recently finished Inter-District Under 19 Tournament, there are about 50 different teams in this tournament and the performances may not mean a lot here but even then only few batsmen ( Behram Khan, Haris Sohail, Syed Fawad ) and bowlers like Raza Rehman and Shahzeb Khan (leg spinner) has performed well in ID tournament but they have never done anything in any previous tournaments( Inter region or Inter dictrict).

I can't believe that most of the U19 WC winning squad are missing!!

Waseem
25th August 2006, 11:57
Mohammad Ibrahim and Imad Wasim played in U19 WC and they were pretty much automatic choices, Sadullah Ghauri from Lahore performed extremely well prior to WC but he was unfortunate to miss out so he is a good inclusion, Fahad Zaman was another one who did really well and missed out and i expect him to perform well. Abdul Rauf ( WK) is also a good batsman keeper.

I really don't know where these players came from and what have they done to be included in U19 squad : Osama Niazi (Rawalpindi), Ahmed Shahzad, (Lahore), Bahram Khan, Shan Masood (Karachi), Ali Waqas (Faisalabad), Hafiz Saad Nasim, Salman Fazal (Lahore), Nayyar Abbas (Sialkot), Adil Raza (Sialkot), Mohammad Naveed, Raza Rehman (Lahore), Rahatullah (Peshawar), Zaheer Abbas (Karachi).

They haven't done well in recent U19 Int Dis tournament this year and they have done absolutely NOTHING before this year either, some of them are not even amongst 50 top performers this year or last year. We can only assume that selectors were watching the games and they have picked these players on talent rather than figures otherwise i am sure Indian team will prove to be TOO strong for us (we will probably be thrashed).

I hope we discover some exciting young players so i will be keeping a very close eye on this tournament, i think it's about time we produce a SUPER STAR :)

Very strange squad.

Where has the U-19 team gone? Anwar Ali? Jamshed Ahmed?

Theses are the u19 squads for the recent WC...

Pakistan u19 - Ali Asad, Ali Khan, Imad Wasim, Jamshed Ahmed, Mohammad Faheem, *+Sarfraz Ahmed, Usman Malik, Riaz Kail, Nasir Jamshed, Rameez Raja, Mohammad Ibrahim, Anwar Ali, Akhtar Ayub, Mohammad Laeeq

India u19 - *Ravikant Shukla, Piyush Chawla, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma, Mayank Tehlan, Debabrata Das, Ravi Jadeja, Pinal Shah, Abu Nechim Ahmed, Shabaz Nadeem, Parmar Bipinbhai, Sourabh Bandekar, Gourav Dhiman, Vijaykumar Yomahesh

now let's see how many players have survived from each squad...

Pakistan u19 - Mohammad Ibrahim, Osama Niazi (Rawalpindi), Ahmed Shahzad, Saadullah Ghouri (Lahore), Bahram Khan, Aiman Arif, Zeeshan Jamil, Shan Masood (Karachi), Ali Waqas (Faisalabad), Haris Sohail (Sialkot), Syed Fawad (Abbotabad), Adil Raza (Sialkot), Mohammad Naveed, Raza Rehman (Lahore), Rahatullah (Peshawar), Zaheer Abbas (Karachi), Fahad Zaman (Peshawar), Immad Wasim (Islamabad), Shahzeb Khan (Karachi), Hafiz Saad Nasim, Salman Fazal (Lahore), Nayyar Abbas (Sialkot), Naveed Alam (Multan), Abdul Rauf (Faisalabad).

India u19 - Piyush Chawla (capt - Uttar Pradesh), Cheteshwar Pujara (vice-capt - Saurashtra), Parvez Aziz (Assam), Tanmay Srivastav (Uttar Pradesh), Virat Kohli (Delhi), Ravindra Jadeja (Saurashtra), Sumit Sharma (Punjab), Omkar Gaurav (Mumbai), Uday Kaul (Punjab), Shahbaz Nadeem (Jharkhand), Sunil Raju (Karnataka), Vijaykumar Yo Mahesh (Tamil Nadu), Abu Nachim (Assam), Ishant Sharma (Delhi) and Ishwar Choudhary (Gujarat).

That's really interesting. 6 of India's best u19 WC players survive whilst only 2 Pakistani players make it through!

The Indian team would have to be the favourites unless the Pak batting is something special because without our 3-prong pace attack we look very toothless.

I wish they were televising this, I'd watch it!

logic of the pakistani camp is that they didn't want the indian team to go through another mental patch like they had to go in the ICC U19 world cup. NO body can bear to stand that torcher again. Beating India at home again will result in their withdrawal from the rest of the tour because of security reason. And dont we want the india pakistan realtionship to be on the good side.

infamous9383

Geez they don't even have Nasir Jamshed in the squad. PCB probably think that all of the guys from the wc team are ready to move onto the next level.
