The first four will be washed out in similar circumstances to yesterday (ie we would be on the verge of destroying them to humiliating proportions....as we were yesterday) and then England will fluke the 5th and win the series 1-0.....even though in reality we won it 4-1.

This is what the weather channel says here about london
Saturday: Cloudy and windy with periods of light rain. High 67F. Winds SW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 80%.
perhaps the 20% of no rain coming down. and it could change in the next day or so.

Dont think he will be played in this series, Inzi said it clearly, reason they have picked Shahid yousaf is to Groom him, so that he knows exactly what his role is , gains some experience e.t.c .

but i would love to see Shahid play at least 1 match .

Agreed but the best thing would be a retractable roof on every cricket stadium which can open and close.

Not sure how practical that would be to be honest. Not everyone can afford it and 99% of stadiums in the world would probably have to be demolished and rebuilt from scratch in order to support such a structure.

It is far more sensible to just have a reserve day for every ODI match! Something lost on the ECB obviously.

That is complicated. It would take an extremely long time for this idea to have an effect as there are many many stadiums.

Why not just have reserve days for ODI matches, as Hash bhai said? It would be a hell of alot easier!

Reserve days with the match being carried on should be allowed- not sure what the current ruling on this is.The most farcical weather scenario was at that Champs Trophy final some years back when India were playing Sri Lanka. With rain abandoning play after one innings, the match was started from scratch the next day only for the weather to strike again after one completed innings. What would happen in a World Cup final if weather prevented play after a team had scored 350 and had the opposition at 20/3? Would they re-start the match on the reserve day?

Hash
31st August 2006, 23:29
I agree. The match should just carry on. No need to start from scratch. No logic behind that at all.

Having a roof on every stadium is completely and utterly impractical. Think about it. It just wouldn't happen. It would be far too expensive and most stadiums probably couldn't support such a structure and would have to be demolished and rebuilt......which would take years and years. It just aint sensible.

Reserve days on the other hand are both practical, sensible and cheap! But I guess the ECB don't want to have them.

Exactly. It would be nigh near impossible to have a roof over every stadium in internatonal cricket. It would cost too much money and would take so much time.

Reserve days would be a much more sensible option, IMO.

Why ruin the home of cricket with 4 big floodlights? It would be a travesty if permanent ones were erected there. Some ones just for 1 game would be better.

England v Pakistan, 2nd ODI, Lord's

Rain set to come into play again

Cricinfo staff

September 1, 2006

The weather again looks set to play a big part in the second ODI at Lord's on Saturday. Rain washed out the first match at Cardiff on Wednesday with Pakistan set for victory, and the forecast for London tomorrow is poor.

England are in desperate need of a one-day miracle after winning only three of their last completed 16 ODIs - and one of those was against Ireland - as well as losing eight home matches on the trot.

Darren Gough told the BBC that, unsurprisingly, confidence in the team is low. "England have lacked belief in the ability of some of the players. That's down to not knowing whether they're going to be part of the squad because they're not winning and there are always going to be changes. It would have been nice if we'd got all the players who are going to play in the Champions Trophy or the World Cup and had a good run together. But since last year we've been split up through injuries and different players coming in. Everyone's been playing for places."

Kevin Pietersen also spoke to the BBC, telling them that the influx of new players had created its own problems.

"In a Test if you lose a session - or even two - you can still win a match, whereas in a one-day game with the inexperience if you lose 10 overs you lose the game. It's a case of knowing when to turn it on, when to be ruthless and when to be clinical. We've got that approach in the Test matches but we're struggling to find it in the one-dayers."

Andrew Strauss, meanwhile, explained that the policy was now to go for a steady rather than spectacular approach. "We've tried a few combinations," he said. "We were looking at the attacking opener at one stage and we've tried a couple of people in that role and that didn't quite work out for us. Maybe we've just gone back to trying to get more of an assured start and setting a platform for the middle order players.

"Marcus has played that attacking role at the top of the order for a number of years now and done very well and it's not as if the other players at the top of the order can't hit boundaries, but wickets in hand are very, very important in one-day cricket."

Pakistan, meanwhile, were encouraged by their Cardiff performance after the problems of the previous ten days. "We have fielded well, certainly bowled well ... I'm not sure how well we've batted yet," Bob Woolmer, Pakistan's coach observed. "What has happened in the past we want to put behind us. Cricket is the most important thing for all of us at the moment, and we will be concentrating on that. But I suppose it is an interesting psychological motivating factor for the team. They are very determined and are playing some very good cricket. This is an interesting time in Pakistan's cricket history."

Natural elements are involved in the nature of a cricket pitch! The over head conditions affect both fast bowlers and spinners! If it was a compact environment then we would have similar pitches, similar bowlers and similar batsman all over the world.

cricinfo just said that weather will be fine, quite late in the day...not now...any chances of play RIGHT now, are very slim

take a look at this
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/europe/uk/radar/index.html
now take a look at this
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/wind.shtml#no_url
this looks promising as the wind direct is north/north east, also the fact that the main batch of rain cloud looks set to miss london, and maybe the wind direction may push the rain cloud beyond london. If we do get get any rain by the looks of it, it will not be for the whole day

Actually, you missed the main rainband south of england's coast.

Like I said b4 6pm, b4 u c any extended spell of dry spell for a few hours.
Although, theremight be some brief respite ..butnot enough for to see some real action..considering the time it takes for declaring play.
