"Team Australia: 2003 vs 2006".
This got me into looking into same comparision for Pak team.
Well, here is what I found;
September 3, 2006 October 17, 2003 August 17, 2006
(Test Match # 295) (Test Match # 296) (Test Match # 324)
Mohammad Hafeez Taufeeq Umar Mohammad Hafeez
Salman Butt Imran Farhat Imran Farhat
Yasir Hameed Yasir Hameed Younis Khan
Inzamam-ul-Haq *Yousuf Youhana Mohammad Yousuf
Younis Khan Asim Kamal *Inzamam-ul-Haq
Farhan Adil Shoaib Malik Faisal Iqbal
*+Rashid Latif +Moin Khan +Kamran Akmal
Saqlain Mushtaq Shoaib Akhtar Shahid Nazir (Akhtar)
Shabbir Ahmed Mohammad Sami Umar Gul
Umar Gul Mushtaq Ahmed Danish Kaneria
Yasir Ali Danish Kaneria Mohammad Asif
Now considering Shahid Nazir played in place of Shoaib Akhtar in Oval test (#324), we basically have the same team what we had in 2003....only Kamran, Asif and Faisal were not present back then. This is only 3 changes as opposed to 4 in Australian team.
But....the problem is that our current 9 (including Malik) players (except Asif, Kamran and Faisal) came from a pool of 21 players of back-to-back tests in 2003s. Only Yasir Hanid was retained from one-test to the next test!!!
Who made 10 freaking changes to a winning side for the next test 44 days later?? Please don't turn this another Aamir Sohail thread!
So....seems like we can be retain players 3 years later but don't know what'll happen in the NEXT test! :P

Thanks for the kudos
You will find that the test match played in September 2003 was against BAN( where we almost lost)! Many of our top players were not available due to various reasons( injures, county contracts etc)!
The best thing for me is that unlike the 90s we haven't changed our captain since 03; it would have been so easy to change the captain after that disastrous series vs IND but i am glad common sense prevailed and we kept Inns as our skipper!

what a stupid comparison to make an a so called issue.
The 1st game you listed was the 3rd test v bangladesh and the series had been won so pakistan tried out some new players in the 3rd test match. The likes of akthar etc were allowed to go and play county cricket and others rested.
The next test series saw the team go back to pretty much best available side barring injuries or bans.
If you look as sohails tenure as coach you will actaully find that opening pairs didnt really change much, there were foundations of a top six of farhat, taufeeq, hameed, inzi, moyo, kamal been formed.
whilst sohail made one or two mistakes with likes of junaid zia etc.. his selections werent that bad!
If anyones chopped and changed its current managment!

Ok genious,...... by comparing 2 tests in 1993, I was being a little sarcastic (or may a little funny) about dropping 10 players from a winning side!! But then again, not everybody can read between the lines! ;-)
Bring me ONE example where 10 players from a one test to the next test they played other than some political or controversial reason. YEs, South Africa made 10 changes to their back-to-back test but those tests were 21 years apart while SAf were banned all thsoe years!

Yes......these the reasons given to the press but still does not justify something that was never done before! Only Amir Sohali can do this!

Yasir and farhan played 1 test hardly time to judge people. Salman butt has done decently in his career.
under sohail we managed same opening pair for 7 tests running!
under current era we have found 8 different pairs in last 7 tests, tells you something dont it? :13:

Is that why Butt has never scored against moving ball and out of the team now! :21:
Plus.....reg Yasir/Farhan, are you saying that you judge cricketer AFTER you bring them in? Domestic performance does not matter. My cousin is very good club cricketer, I hope gets a chance to be judged by getting picked up for a test match or two!! :D What an eye for talent??

I may be wrong about the exact dates regarding Sohail's tenure but seems like most of these openers (Yasir, Salman, Taufeeq, Farhat, Hafeez, etc) were brought in by him. What an eye for talent?? Gave us so many options that poor Inzi can't even decide who to keep and who to leave? :)

No...you got it wrong.....!!! Since I don't like Sohail the selector, you are assuming that I am a Bari fan.
I was a big fan of Aamir Sohail the cricketer but I hate 90% of the things he did and and SAID when he was a selector!
As far as Bari is concerned, I think he has been a selector for toooooo long, counting all his tenures!! He needs to go......and he should have gone before the start of 2004-05 season.
Now if we change the selectors, too close to the world cup and if the new selector come in and start doing experiments......then what? Is it a good time to experiment? Do we have time to do experiment? Thats all.

Bari should never have come back as selector after Sohail, same guy who wouldn't pick opne of pakistan greats because he was religous. His ass must be burning now as most of the team is religous.
Teh main reason I wouldn't have him selector because al he does is goeas back to same thing. at least Aamir tried new players, some not good choice but some decent enough. As selector you try oplayers and bari doesn't fo that. All he does is sits and chills

exactly, at least aamir tried youngsters, u have to try them to know what they can or cant do. and he gave most of them a consistent run. look at hafeez and yasor for example. they werent kicked out just based on one or two failures. bari cant do ****, i bet most of the selections are made by inzi and woolmer and all the youngsters who are in the team rite now are not coz of bari, but coz of inzi and woolmer.

You toook the word out of my mouth. I think it's time for him to go. If it means having him for sake of him until the world cup. Tehn kepp him and show him door straight after (not that he makes any decisions). He is not worth a penny and I hope next selector is open minded.
