I heard two fatwas about using ventolin inhaler(used to relief asthma attack)during the fasting of Ramdhan. One fatwa permits the use of the inhaler and the other fatwa says that the use of the inhaler breaks the fasting.I am not sure which one to follow...Will the use of inhaler which mainly goes to the lungs affect my fasting? :13:

Depends how bad your asthma is I guess.
If its only minor then you may find that Ramadhan helps you wean yourself off the inhaler and you'll need it less after the fasting.
If your asthma is severe then use it because Islam doesn't advocate you knowingly harming yourself!!

I suppose there are no 2 ways about it - if you use the inhaler, I am afraid you have broken your fast as anyone else who takes medicine would.

What a conincidence , someone asked this question to a Mufti yesterday on TV and this is what he said:
It will break your fast as there is medicine in it but you wont get Gunnah for breaking fast this way as it is a necessity and you will have to offer the Fast after Ramadan .

If you really have to use the inhaler, then dont fast.

Correct! Also, if condition is not getting any better and someone is stuck with inhaler for rest of the life, then, it is suggested to pay amount equal to fitra for each mandatory fast as kaffarah. That is what diabates patients do.

In the Quran God has said that if you face a matter of life and death, you can eat PORK.
So that tells us that GOD's laws are very rational.
So if its a matter of life and death and the inhaler has to be used, God understands that, he can use it.
SubhanAllah on what GOD teaches us and whaty our Mullahs precieve to be.

Surely Dash, in a matter of life and death, if one eats pork while fasting, the roza is nullified, no?

Can you PLEASE not associate statements like above to the QURAAN and ALLAH !
The CORRECT way to do this is to quote Surah and Ayah of the passage or a link to it on the web.
If there is a matter of life and death, then you can do what you like - but can you still say that you are fasting after administering a life saving dose of the inhaler !!

first the request for Quran MP3 and now asking people for a valid dalil? MIG's gone mullah!
who are these mullahs anyway, referring to the Quran and the Sunnah? i'm a good person and surely i can use my rational, right? i mean, look at that mullah Shafi for example. that guy spent 3 days continuously reciting the Quran over and over again to look for proof. So old school! who needs that when I have my rational...

Well that's not good advice, a good rest and proper nutrition helps the brain to function better and you can usually find what you're looking for a lot better.
Also when you're struggling with something you should walk away from it and take a break. Then when you come back refreshed you often solve the problem straight away!!

I don't require more than two doses(i.e. sehri and iftar), but than the asthma is acute,so there is possibility of getting the worse condition which is one of the characteristics of asthma(read asma) that the chest is squeezing or tightening out of nowhere.I have never absorb any sort of medicine ever during the fasting.May Allah give me stability to observe all the roza's of ramdhan.Wallah ul Ilm.

Sorry, akhi, it seems that there is a difference of opinion between the scholars about using the inhaler so what I remarked earlier about MIG's opinion being closer to the Truth only applies to me.
Once again, I'm sorry for any confusion I have caused.

No apologies required.I just wanted to know how many people follow the fatwa saying that the use of inhaler is allowed during the fasting.I live on the opposite side as far as the above fatwa is concerned. My doctor (muslim) is in favour of this point of view that we can inhale medicine as it reaches the lungs and not the stomach .He thinks that if we can inhale several gases like oxygen ,carbon dioxide etc than why not take medicine stored in gaseous form.Does he make sense?Even if we absorb various substances from the atmosphere it is unintentional. One cannot deliver anything intentionaly to his/her body through the mouth. This is against the rule of fasting.Do i make sense? :20:

My doctor who is actually sort of scholarly said that any medicine is fine as long as you truly need it.
