View Full Version : West indies or Sri lanka - who do you want?

West indies and sri lanka go head to head on saturday to see who goes into which group for the 2nd stage of the 2006 CT. Both teams have won their matches with ease in ths tourney and have aclimatised to conditions well. Prior to this tourney both teams have come into this Competetion in good form. In addition both teams have sqauds and players who are pretty much suited to conditions in India.

who ever wins on saturday will be pakistans opponents 1st up in the next round. Either way for pakistan it will be a tough starting fixture.

so which opponents would pakistan prefer 1st up?

Sri Lanka, we beat them just recently.

Sri Lanka, we beat them just recently.

They seem a better side since then and we seem like a poorer side since that tourney!

Why are we ? because we lost 2 games. We were superb in the first 3 odis in eng. I dont care against who we will play. We are stronger then both WI ( we trashed them in their backyard) We are stronger then SL ) We beat them with ease)

simple because we have more FIRE POWER !

I wouldnt say we are a poorer side. We had a couple of off games yes but i still feel W.I would be a harder team to beat than SL.

SL may have thumped England 5-0 but W.I humilated India 5-2!

HAFRIDI

either, we have to beat the best sooner or later, our only goal should be to win the whole thing

if it's west indies, expect a high scoring thriller

Either way im not too fussed really. Both have improved significantly and both will be tough oppositions.

sri lanka were superb in all 5 odis in england!

also pakistans CT trophy record is pretty poor, weve been upset by both sides before!

on what basis? in batting or bowling?

ok lets be realistic.....srilanka has good spinners....WI doesn't.....spin will work on these pitches...n i feel for this reason WI will be easier oponents...also i think both bowling attacks are not even comparable to paksitans.....srilanka let bangla score 270 odd runs....and WI struggled against bangla (95 for 1 in 20 overs) initially....

but i still feel WI would be easier openent for Pakistan

The only person that scares from the Sri Lankan side is Murlitharan. We were clueless against the West Indies bowling in the last CT match, but I think both the WI and SL sides are tough opponents.

totally different conditions mate....
I would prefer.....WI! I think the WI lower order will struggle against our spinner(Afridi in particular)

I would like England to face Sri Lanka so it is a chance for revenge. We probably have a better chance of beating West Indies, but I would rather have a rock hard group that teaches the players lessons (which we will have) than a super easy minnow group.

Or a chance for SL to go 6-0 up :P

Totally agree. We should concentrate on our own game, whether it is WI SL or any other country. If we are going to win the trophy we must beat them all

yeah actually! :))

We should play them both at the same time.......so they get 22 fielders and 21 wickets. We would still win ;-)

West Indies
I want Pakistan to take revenge from them for squashing our hopes in 2004 and in 1998 editions of Mini WC

a loss for WI in the group stage would mean that they will have to go unbeaten from thereon to qualify for the semis .....which will be too much of a task for them

In all honesty i'd like us to get the West Indies. Playing Sri Lanka i'd think we'd get humiliated again so to do some damage control i'd rather play the "easier" side. The West Indies have as much experience as us on these pitches so it would be an interesting match.

I'd prefer to pay windies. We trashed them in the windies but although we did the same to SL recently they have murali. I bet india want to steer clear of the windies who beat them for fun these days...

I want Windies. They are inconsistent and their bowling is poor. Sri Lanka has a brilliant allround team. Tharanga is scoring runs for fun, Jayawardene and Sangakara are also firing. Players like Jayasuriya and Attapattu are yet to hit to hit form but if they do they will set a huge total. They have two very good bowlers in Malinga and Muralitheran who can destroy teams. while the Windies will rely on Lara and hope that the likes Gayle and Chanderpaul can get them off to a good start. Once you get past their top 4 there is nothing as you must have seen in Malaysia.

i think pak is stronger than both. and can beat them.

but remember pak beat us 3-0 in the caribbean minus brian lara.

However this does not take away from the fact that pak played very well :19:

Malinga need's to learn to bowl more full, i honestly believe he will get hammered if he keep's bowling short, although at times he can be effective due to his rather unique action

If Afridi faces Malinga again, i hope he takes care of him this time! he had no clue against him when we toured Lanka

The West Indies without a doubt. I couldn't care less about the Champions trophy but it would allow us a look at them before the upcoming series. It could also provide our bowlers with an opportunity to spot some chinks in their batsmens technique: all of which would be helpful later on in November.

[QUOTE=faisalm] They are inconsistent and their bowling is poor. Sri Lanka has a brilliant allround team. [QUOTE]

Taylor, Bradshaw, Collymore, Bravo and Gayle.

Bit harsh to call that bowling attack poor, Collymore's had his injury problems but is a pretty good bowler and Taylor seems to be coming along nicely.

tbh, both look difficult and with those two having to qualify against more competitive outfits - including each other and hence get to grips with the surfaces...neither looks tempting.

Sri Lanka have had 6 straight matches of 285 or more(5 300 scores) and they have a very formidalbe batting lineup with thranga in great form. They still have magical murali.

WI are prone to collapases. Top four have to score otherwise they are done. The match between the two will be interesting but SL has to get the edge.

I would rather face the WI

man i love my predictions

I would prefer the West Indies. Sri Lanka have been on fire since June, raking up totals in excess of 250 in almost every match and destroying their opponents with their bowling aswell.

West Indies have had just one great series aganst the Indians. They were inconsistent in the DLF Cup, in which they got bowled out twice for a score below 200. The bowling isnt that impressive aswell

their bowling attack vs our batting will be a good contest.....
then you have the likes of Shoaib and Asif with Jaysuria, Sanga and Jaywerdena...
So it should be an excellent match
