Pakistani kids in the UK have an excuse - what excuse do the Pakistani kids in Pakistan have? Its not URDU, its a bastardized form of Hindi - thats the painful part. And to imagine, its we who are allowing in this is in the name of progress.

Kids in UK have an excuse - the tragedy is that the land of URDU has people intent on destroying the language with this bastardized Hindo/English.

I think MTV is working together with IM to open MTV Pakistan so no surprise there.
IM was doing gr8 itself alone, but with MTV coming, pop singers ll get very good plateform and some sponsorships ll come their way too.

dear Miggy sahab ~ this evolution began a long time ago and they already speak that form of english. i suppose Pakistani kids in the UK will speak that funny kind of urdu that only they can understand?

indianised? just because india was the first one to start this in south-east asia doesnt mean its indianised. Please !! and i think i have heard enough of preservation of language. its man made and meant to evolve and change as all things. its not like urdu is some jannati language and immune from any 'bastardisation' et al. more important things to preserve, if one needs to !!

Great news - we can all fit in nicely in downtown mumbai - "woh kiay hai na , kay hum aap ko bolay thay ka , kiya fundoo cheez hai"...
URDU is our national langauge - its preservation is tied to Pakistans identity - if you cant see a problem with that then I suppose there is nothing to argue about.

urdu was chosen as a national language. pakistan was not created for a language. understand that and much of the identity crisis will absolve. there are more important things to worry about than how language is changing. no one is forcing anyone to speak a certain way. people choose and pick. waise miggy, you do speak well enough to fit into downtown mumbai. bindaas!!

:)) What do you expect - mai khood Indian colleagues kee Hindi theek karta rahta hoon !
Ok, lets go back a bit - URDU was the pehchan of Muslims in the SubContinent - if it werent the case, Allama Iqbal would have written bangedara in Punjabi or Sanskrit !
I am told by many Indian Muslims that URDU is being deliberately marginalized to finish off their identity. You can see it in the Indian movies of the 70s, 60s, 50s - URDU was the langauge of dialogue - fast forward that to 90s, 2000s etc - language is different ( some say evolved ) - but that is good for India - its the melting pot for many languages but is Pakistan the same?
Sometimes, battles can be fought without guns and tanks...

oh let me rephrase my comment: our society is already paying for this sort of haramzadgi(yes it is that, and if you feel it isnt let your own daughters, wives and mothers do this on tv)..sorry im being harsh but its time we face the facts and reality of our situation...let me explain my comment of indianization...The Indianization of Pakistan is a stated policy goal of our friendly neighbour across the border...you see to destroy a society like Pakistan they have employed some very clever tools...the main one being the media...this is another phase in the destruction of Pakistan..many of you youngsters at uni or fresh out of school or in school, will say"ye kya bakwaas kur raha hay" well guess what i was one of you..into my rock music and western style lifestyle in pakistan etc etc...well i woke up..its time you people did too..the rug is being pulled from under us slowly by elements who are hell bent on destroyin our society while we sit mesmerised by these fools selling us cheap entertainment..wake up...
I apologise for the rant but my question still stands...if you go on a street in the UK or Pakistan, change the names of the people in those pictures to Ravi, manjit or shankar, can you tell me if any1 will know the difference?? if the answer is no then my point is made...ask yourselves what makes us different from them? if you cant then your already lost and Jinnah struggled for nothing....to defeat your enemy you must first know your enemy..we used to know ours but they have made us forget, they still know us...wake up my brothers, before its too late!!... we are Muslims and Pakistanis, the guardians of the fort of Islam, the inheritors of Iqbals vision, the successors toi Jinnahs struggles...wake up now or the next time you wake up your mothers and daughters will be doing a dance at the next navaratri festival in Delhi!!

what Pakistani music needs is a band like RATM that will bring political issues into the limelight. if these channels can help, lets have more of them. if its going to be more of that twiddle your thumbs oh look atif and jal are fighting again nonsense, might as well shut it down now. the youth of Pakistan today are a million times better than they were 15 years ago. do not doubt their patriotism and please do not ridicule them with that indianised crap. that battle was lost in the 80s when your ilk decided indian movies were the thing to watch all day long and now you take that u-turn and chastise those that want to create their own identity, using their own media outlets. these outlets should be used to challenge the indians as it is the Pakistanis that will have control of what to air. let them grow.

Oxy I have met loads of young British Pakistanis and loads of Pakistani youth with the "messsed up American accent" as you put it but I can tell you one thing that it is 10 times better then the wannabe accent of British Pakistani kids (I had a couple of class fellows in high school who came from Britain).

Calm down.
People tend to speak with an accent from within the country they were born in and grew up in.
Thats why I speak with a Welsh accent on account of me being born in Wales.
I cannot speak with an American accent!
So it surprises me that so many Pak youngsters / entertanment wallahs speak with a fake American accent.

As long as one is eloquent why should accent make a difference? Its just the way they are taught in private schools. I dont know why you would have a problem with someone having an American accent?

I suppose if we dont consider MTV as a measure of our "progress", then its fine to ignore it. One does feel a little sad for the younger generation when they are growing up with jokers like these on TV ! I suppose if it isnt them, then it would be someone from another channel.
My only gripe is with the destruction of URDU by our OWN people. I suppose its also down to the parents of the kids who watch these channels.

is it "ghar ki murghy daal brabar" ?
or some ppl are never happy ?
couple of these guys on MTV are from UK/USA so there accent seems to b like that. channel is just for give a good platform for our singers/music.
Indians are not happy that younsgters use words like InshAllah/MashAllah and we are not happy with our kids speaking in their accent. it doe damage both ways.
As for Urdu is concerned, it dpends on how u speak in ur own home. forget abt Indian/hindi accent, westil have Islamabi/pindi/lahori/Khi etc etc accent. that Nawabi accent of Urdu is no more. Also books in schools in Pakistan are mostly in English now, no Arabic classes anymore.
there are alot of factors and not only these channels. so just enjoy the music and move on.
BTW I have seen few programmes on MTV in last few days, guest (pop singers) their Urdu was perfect, ppl calling in programmes, their Urdu was gr8. one Guy Waqar Ali Khan, he can't speak Urdu, others like Dino & Anoushey can speak good Urdu.

what MTV has to do with the destruction of urdu is beyond me. we're giving an opportunity for young singers/songwriters to express themselves in their own language so if anything its another outlet for the younger generation to further the use of urdu. to be quite honest, nobody gives a crap about VJs, its the actual content that matters so i don't think anybody will be growing up with these folks.
take your battle to the local urdu newspaper, Miggy, where they will take an english word and write it out in urdu, even when the original urdu alternative is perfectly viable.
