WHat else do you call a bowler who had the ability to be as good as Waqar yet due to his attitude, injuries and other issues was only able to play 42 test matches!
Hirwani: Indian leg spinner who got 16 wickets on his debut against the mighty West Indies...I think it was in 1988!
Ngam: S African fast bowler with all the credentials to be as good as Donald other than the fact that he had a few injuries which killed his career!

yea i think that most cricket fans will agree that PAK have had the most number of wasted talents(with the exception of SA who were stripped of the test status)

Tatenda Taibu's a harsh one. He's young, reasonable Test average. Unlucky to be from Zimbabwe really. He'd be first choice keeper for England if he were English.

Top choice with Ngam, he had/has a lot of potential.. He's still reasonably young, so if he can fully get over his injuries he could make a comeback.

I'll ignore players who did well at international level like Shoaib or Saqlain and only include players who had the ability but havent lived up to their potential
Imran Nazir
Greg Blewett
Mohammed Wasim (part time keeper too)
Vinod Kambli
Mark Ramprakash
Graeme Hick
Azhar Mahmood
Mohammed Zahid
Mohammed Sami
Hirwani

i hope so but i am not very hopeful.....not after reading this
"a succession of stress fractures in his legs have since hindered his progress. He underwent a barrage of tests in an attempt to establish why his bones appear to be so brittle - it has been suggested that he may suffer from a genetic disorder or that the root cause lies in certain dietary deficiencies earlier in his life"

Yeah, that is something that can take away the hope, but according to a few articles on cricinfo in recent times the South African establishment, especially Allan Donald are quite confident of his return.
Donald also felt that Mfuneko Ngam, another talent dogged by a series of injuries over the past few years, had taken the first step to overcome his apprehensions. "You can just imagine. Mfuneko is still too afraid to bowl flat out; to let himself go," he said. "We are going to help him get over it. He made good progress during the week. He has already taken one step. He did not want to use his left arm because his shoulder is terribly painful."
"Step two is to get him mentally prepared for the season ahead," Donald added. "He may also be aware that this could be his last season if things do not go well for him. South African cricket wants him back and we are going to work very hard to ensure he'll be there."
Ngam, 27, admitted that the being free of injuries during the past two seasons had given him the confidence to test himself to the maximum this year.
That is from July, so hopefully he continues to improve!

That's good Hindsy! I think M Zahid made a similar comeback after his injury but unfortunately he had lost all his venom and i hope that's not the case with Ngam!
Just checked his stats for this season he has played 2 1st class matches(season just started) and has picked 6 wickets at 27.

Shane Bond... stress fractures completely plagued him of his prime...
He had averaged something like 8 runs per wicket against the Aussies :/
He was simply devastating when he was fit.

germain LAWSON. remember his 6 wicket hual in the test against australia?
Mohammad Akram. (always felt he was a good bowler, good pace, decent ounce and seam movement, and some outswing. his wickets in the perth test confirmed that he had potential.
Amir Nazir (flashback to his windies tour)
Ian Bishop (couldve been one of the worlds best bowlers....almost made it)
Asim kamal and Yasir Hameed (still in with a chance though)
OH OH forgot to add
Stuart McGill. too bad he was in the same country as Shane Warne.....coz this guy is amazing.

I heard that he has turned his back on Zimbabwe and is aiming to qualify for a new test playing nation?

very good choices man. agree with all of them Mohmmad Akram was totally wasted adn he blames wasim akran and waqar younis for that. he said that they would tell him to bowl short, and wasim being the captain, would set fields for short stuff. i would add M. Samuels to that list, a very talented player in my opinion. and also my personal favorite, Sami

If Akhtar's name is there then Bond should be ahead of him and have to see what happens with Simon Jones
Colin Croft - Went to SA and got dropped/banned by WI. He had the potential to be one of the greats of the WI bowling

Akhtar should be there. A class bowler but injuries and now a ban have kept him from playing only around 40 matches.

3. Yasir Hammed>>> I dont know what he has done wrong,, He fish but he has the average
4. Saleem Elahi>>> was a good player,, dont know why people here in pp doesnt rate him.
5. Basit Ali>>> this guy could have been the next big thing,,, Inzi like technic and battig
6. Azhar Mahmood>> This guy can bat he is for me more a batting allrounder
7. Afridi>>>welll he can be a good odi specielist, bowler allrounder,
8 Sami>>> He has to bowl fast and target the stump we should use him as a stock bowler
9. Mohammad Zahid>>>> PCB didnt handled him good,, he was the next big thing
10. Mohammad Akram>>> He as a very fine bowler, abit like Gul and Shabbir he could swing the bowl
11. Saglain Mustaaaq>>> played to much county cricket and was not handled good by Waqar YOunis when he was captain..
12: Shoaib Akhtar, Abnormal so bound to get injure, could have done alot better if he maintained his fitness...

Croft had to fight to get in to the line up with Andy roberts, Garnar, Holding, Marshall. How can he penetrate that lineup? He only got his chance when some one was injured most of the time. But had he played for any other country he would terrorize everyone including WI lineup. He did retire after only 5 years for a reason I don't know. 27 test 125 wickets shows his class where other 3 bowlers are equally devastating.

The problem with Saleem Elahi was first of all his shuffling, and most importantly his weakness outside the offstump. now most of the players we have, and especially the openers have been at times exposed to having that weakness anyways, but in Saleem Elahi it was EXTREME. far worse than any "fishers" of the likes of butt, farhat or hameed. otherwise elahi had all the shots, wonderful timer of the ball, i mean seriously good timer, and wasnt so rash in hitting. he played well on our pitches where his outside offstump weakness wasnt exposed too much, but on tracks that offered ANYTHING, it was horrible to watch.
i think of all the openers wve had in the last ten years or so, he was the weakest at delivires outside offstump. was a very sylish player though, i used to love watching him bat, and as said before, the timing..uff....i still remember those caver drives and the flick for a one bounce four or a six :)
