Which shop(s) do you think have the most unhelpful staff ?

For me it's got to be B&Q (a DIY chain in the UK, for those of you who have never heard of it).

They tend to not know what they are talking about and keep passing you onto colleagues who are equally as useless :12: :12:

Hardees. The other day it took the idiot 15 minutes to understand my order. Wasted my time, completely.

I have found that in general Pakistani shopkeepers and their offspring are much ruder than their Indian counterparts

It funny Saj, at my work I am fully trained and I can sell anything in that store. I am almost as good as going to a foot doctor if you needed a certain type of shoe. However, people get annoyed when I just do my job! Like we are asked to greet everyone, nothing about saying "Can I help you?" Just a simple "how are you?" and people still give you attitude at the fact that you are just acknowledging them!

The worst shops are in Nigeria. The salesmen try to murder you if you walk out without purchasing anything

Contrast that to the US Style, over zealous shop assistant who will follow you around the shop and ask you "How're ya doin' today" at every opportunity ... a dozen "just browsing or I am ok thanks" before they leave you to your devices ...

I'll give you an example of what I encountered yesterday in B&Q.

I needed some special mirror screws to use into kitchen tiles. The assistants firstly are nowehere to be seen, then when you find them there are a group of them stood around doing nothing. You approach them, and they tell you to go to the mirrors section where you need to speak to Colin.

Colin is nowhere to be seen nor are the screws. Then you approach Bob who says that you need to go to isle 44 where John will be there. You approach John and he refers you to Mike. Mike hasnt got a clue and isnt really interested.

In the end I just found them myself ! :(

Shop assistants are one thing but helplines on the phone are even worse. I once phoned Lloyds TSB to ask something about my account and got connected to a guy who could barely speak any English in these call centres in India.
[indian accent]"What is your surname?"[/indian accent]
"Hall"
[indian accent]"How do you spell?".[/indian accent]
"H-A-L-L"
[indian accent]H-A-L-L[/indian accent]
"yes"
[indian accent]can you repeat please[/indian accent]

After this tedious process giving information to access your account they then make you do this random questionnaire. By then my patience has completely gone and i end up hanging up on them.

i hate going to the post office, my local one is full of pension-age asian women, during ramdhan i went to send off my graduation ticket application form and i forgot to close the envelope so i asked the woman politely (who was giving me evil daggers through her eyes to hurry up) if there was any glue or something that i could close the envelope with, she looked at me ready to knock me out and said

'THERE IS NO GLUE, HAH YOU WANT GLUE DO I LOOK LIKE GLUE TO YOU, THIS AINT NO STATIONARY SHOP'

and i looked at her and thought OK-DEN thanks for that comment and then she said there's a wet sponge use that - some people are just plain rude

---------------------------

i mean ive been working p/t in a retail store for over 3 years now and to this day when i say hi or hello or smile its like ive commited a crime, not many happy customers especially working on a saturday i swear i loose the plot

But Miggy I worked in that environment nad it is not we are over zealous. We are trained to do so or atleast be near you so cases like Saj should not happen. Customers should not be walking around looking ofr us, we should be somewhere near.

Like people think we are scavengers but the fact is we are trained to do this stuff and we HAVE to do this stuff and if we dont results in bad performance report which leads to less hours or termination of employment.

I use to think like that, but until you work in that environment, you truly understand how complicated ti is. This job taught me how to view differently from all aspects, like be more apathatic

Saj's latest adventure involving B&Q.

We ordered a product from B&Q over one month ago, it wasnt in stock so they ordered it for us. Payment was made in advance. We were told that the product would be available in 2 weeks time and we'd get a phone call to confirm that it was instore.

3 weeks passed, no phone call. So we phoned them and phoned them and phoned them, only a couple of days ago to be told that the product was discontinued :( We went in and asked them if they could give us the one on display which looked in good condition, only to be told by the member of staff that health and safety didnt allow him to remove it, we then asked his manager if we could have the one on display, he said yes, he'll remove it later and give us a call back. Did we get a call back, you must be joking !

Yes, the letters on the way to the head office!

B&Q I think stands for Bakwaas and Qaminay !

We are so much like the program that comes on in the UK................GRUMPY OLD MEN.........why is it necessary to whine and moan about unhelpful shop assistants????

My personal whinging and moaning would be:

- Rail Services (Dirty Carriages, Delays and Cancellations)
- Mobile phone companies ringing from India telling you wonderful but, deceitful offers.
- Banks, also having call centres in India telling us stupid, irrelevant offers
- Double Glazing and Kitchens and Photographer companies promoting their companies but, are so desperate they will even call up your friends if you give them their number
- Politically run masjids especially where I am from, where religion is put aside and personal pride comes in the way, it ruins Eid, Ramadhan, Shabarat.

I could go on forever, but, all this is part of life, very frustrating but, if we didnt whinge what else would we do?????

I find that many of those people who work in petrol stations and I have been served by are unfriendly and some don't even speak much english.

Its ironic I say this because I myself work in a petrol station during the holidays and have been doing for the past two years, yet those who I work with (including myself imo) are very friendly and helpful.
