Had the afternoon off, to cheer me up I went to see the latest Bond flick with a few mates. Man, I must say it was excellent. Daniel Craig is every bit as good as you've heard in the role - he has ditched the superhero image thank god, and turned Bond into a bloke again. The film is set when Bond had first become a 00 agent, so he is young and raw. He is still an impressive agent that can do amazing things, but with a lot more vulnerability, and he makes mistakes too.

His scenes with M are also some of the best Bond-M scenes in any Bond film - they have mutual respect but also different methods, and it actually feels like she is his boss - not just the usual quip-littered discussion about an international incident, over a couple of glasses of bourbon.

Basically if you liked Bond as it was in some of the Connery films, with gadgetry kept to a minimum and the focus on action, grit and realism, you will love Casino Royale. The opening scene, when an ice-cold Bond carries out his first kills (filmed in black and white - a stroke of genius I thought) will blow your mind, and the chase across the construction site soon afterwards somehow betters it. A great story, a great Bond actor, a good love story, and one of the best Bond films ever.

I always imagined Daniel Craig to be a batter Bond actor than Brosnan. He just looks the James Bond type.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Brosnan as Bond - but he was all that was left. Everything else about the series which used to make it good, had started going down the toilet after the brilliant Goldeneye. They were right to replace Brosnan because it gives them the chance to wipe the slate clean and start making good thrillers again - please no more CGI invisible cars, cameos from Madonna and crappy supporting characters.

Daniel Craig was fantastic and I hope he goes on to play Bond many times in films just as good or better than this one.

My second favourite Bond ever and I must say, the aray of witty humour that Craig brought to the film was a welcome surprise.

With the exception of Goldeneye and Goldfinger, I can't remember enjoying a Bond film more on first watch. Hopefully it stands up to repeated viewings!

I wish they hadn't edited the torture sequence (just so it could be a 12A). I bet the kids don't understand this Bond anyway, it is clearly geared towards a late teen/adult audience.
