Afzal, I like your team. Given that the match is at Sydney two spinners can also be considered.

Batsmen are easy to pick and form a stronger batting line-up than the Aussies.
Batsman Average
(1) Sehwag 56
(2) Strauss 57
(3) Dravid 58
(4) Lara 53
(5) Inzi/Kallis 50/56
(6) Sangakarra 49
(7) Flintoff 32
(8) Pollock
(9) Vettori
(10) Kumble
(11) Shoaib or Harmison (depending on fitness and form)

Batting is very strong with 6 specialists, a genuine all-rounder and Pollock and Vettori to follow.

Bowling is weaker but has variety in Harmison/Shoaib (pace), Pollock (accuracy and swing), Kumble (leggie) and Vettori (left-arm spin). Flintoff can provide testing short spells.

Murli is also a possibility in place of Vettori.

i think squads have been announced by the rankings ? could someone tell me if this is true

Officer Barbrady

Mr AA come on, Strauss is a better player than hit or miss Idontscoreoutsidesubcontinent Jayasuria. Also, given Flintoff's good form with the ball don't you think using his pace and bounce would be a good idea at 7?

Murli doesn't bowl very well against left-handers and the Aussies handled him well on spinning tracks in Srilanka not sure about him or Kumble.

I cannot believe it that you guys prefer Straus over Gibbs.

Gibbs has a test average of 50 over a period of 10+ years unlike Straus who only played a handful of games.

No, Marooned, your team is better.

Does Gibbs still average 50?

Officer Barbrady

hmm thanks Afzal! Gibbs is at 48 has been around there for a while. He would certainly be in contention but I like Strauss I thought he was very organized when I saw him this summer. I would give him a go.

just another money making scheme for the ICC.

I for one would be very annoyed if one of our key players was selected and and ended up getting injured and missing the England tour.

Waste of time if you ask me.

Aus vs ROW fine......once in a while the odd game like that can be organised for charity or something. But to make it a regular series is pathetic. Just adds to the already hectic international schedule and the aids the bank balances.
