I know it's not very 'fashionable' to be a fan of shows like Star Trek but so what!!

I remember watching it as a kid and being fascinated by the way things worked in the show, I think it helped me have a more positive outlook on life. EG when I see a problem I dont think oh that cant be done, I always think how can that be done!

It's also inspired many of the modern inventions, inventors and scientists that we have today.

I only really watched the Captain Kirk version and a bit of the next generation one properly. I've caught a few episodes of the newer ones but apart from Seven of Nine and T'Pow they weren't worth watching at all.

Anyone else a fan?

was in love with star trek till i learn that "modulating the amplitude of the phase capacitance" makes about as much sense as "eating the donut with celery soda".

still loved voyager. love the idea of a lone strangler fighting for survival. i would watch it in my freshman year when it came on at 12 midnight, till i finally got cable. used to watch the next generation and deep space nine but they had very little drama and character development.

now one of ther best creater/producer/director: ron d. moore has his own show, battlestar galactica. just watched the first two seasons on dvd a week back and am watching the rest on itunes. this is so much better.

yet i would admit to a soft spot for shatner. or rather as my brother says: "Shatattack!!!"

TNG is the best, then voyager. I am a really big fan. I just finished watching the last season of TNG. I had been in love of the show from the beginning. Even my grandma used to watch it with me and knew all the species.

Okay... i'll admit it...

I LOVE star trek :26:. I remember watching one of the movies with Kirk and Spock travelling back in time to save a hump back whale ( :20: ) with my dad when i was much younger, from what i remember it was really fun and very enjoyable to watch. Nothing like good memories!

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Many people say that ever even numbered Star Trek movie is better than the odd ones.
The motion picture sucked but the wrath of Khan was good.
The search for spock sucked but the voyage home was good.
The final frontier sucked but the undiscovered country was good.
Generations sucked but First Contact was good.
Insurrection sucked but Nemesis was good.

Do any of you agree with those?

I've never gotten into these kinda programmes. Used to watch when very young but as technology in films and media improved, I never went back to these old styles. Not saying it sucks, it's just I've almost always tended to go for the latest rather than the best.

The borgs have been amazing, ever since the best of both worlds, I have loved every episode with the borgs. This got even better after seven-of-nine.

I must say, I would have liked to see more of species 8472.

they are planning a reboot of the series. inspired by ronal d moore's success with BSG, they are planning to restart the series, sort of like how moore reimagined the original 1970s series. this time, there will be less dumb gadgetary stuff like all the purpose scanner, the stupid energizers and replicators and warp travel and more of stuff that actually emulates perceptions about future technology. moreover, there will be much much more drama, character development. and unlike the previous series, especially the original series the characters will no longer be unidimensional. rarely did the federation's officers display anger, hatred or betray and negative emotion, except maybe... "KHAAAAN... KHAAAAN!!!"

actually star trek was intended as propaganda television, just like superman. the federation, with its better technology, peaceful designs and superior morality was akin to the united states while kligons were the unruley, war mongering, ill equipped by severely billegerent and unidimensional intent of conquering all and controlling all, communist soviets. just as superman and g.i. joe were "all american" heros, complete with the red white and blue, television with an adgenda that later blossomed into full fledged productions after their initial success.

The species I would like to see more of is The saurus species in the episode 'distant origin' in voyager ...an advanced species which evolved millions of years ago on earth which live in the delta quadrant and have a xenophobic superiority over other species including the borg.

my personal favorites: the vulcans, especially during the six month period which recurrs every seven years when they must engage in the dirty... or face consequences!

otherwise, join the Q.

I liked the Founders. from the series with that Captain Sisko or something who was an emissary. They could change forms and were damn powerful but the Borg rules all.

Wasn't Enterprise kind of like a reboot?

I am not exactly sure how I would feel about a reboot of star trek. We would essentially be throwing away 40 years worth of star trek. There are a huge number of trekkies out there and they will complain a lot. But perhaps they could make it better this time around. I am a big huge BSG fan and I love what they have done with the reboot so if they get something of a similar quality I would be happy.

reboot? is that a remake?

Remakes usually mean that they've run out of ideas for a new series.

I would prefer that they did a series from the perspective of a Vulcan, Klingon or Borg ship! We could be let in on what these species do when there are no humans about! That'd be fascinating!

Or they could follow Q around for a series instead!
